Gameday Week 15: 49ers vs Dolphins
The postseason is a year away. Win or lose the only thing they're playing for today is pride. Another opportunity to advertise your wo...

Nick Sorensen confirmed Green will be getting work in the slot. I thought this might be the case when they drafted him. Not a lot of recent experience there, but the way he moves and with his mindset made me think he'd be a good candidate for the position.
ReplyDeleteI also think thr team has a preference to keep Lenoir outside.
I think that's the right approach. I'm just really intrigued by the thought of marrying the Seattle front with the Fangio coverage system.
DeleteSorensen said he'd rather Green learn the inside first knowing he can always bump back outside.

DeleteYesterday when I asked you about who'd play NB, your answer was..."CB is going to a fun battle to watch. Could go many different ways."
LOL....Looks like we may have the answer?...Green gets first try at filling the position....TBD!
GEEP, not sure whether Green will get first crack at NCB come TC, but sounds like they are keen for him to initially compete for that spot.
DeleteAs Razor mentioned, Sorensen seemed to suggest it was a case of getting him reps at NCB primarily to start, but with the knowledge that if he shows that's not the spot for him they know he can go outside. Sorensen also outlined how important having position versatility is for guys that are active on game day, especially if you don't have one of the starting jobs locked down.
Scooter
DeleteTrue! But you were right about it's "going to a fun battle to watch!" It's also going to be fun watching the rookies battle for
playing time. Time will tell, but looks like the 9ers had a good draft and brought in some good free agents to compete.
Anyone know whether reporters are on the field for today and tomorrows rookie camp?
ReplyDeletePretty sure Krueg said he'd be there, so I assume so.
DeleteCoach,
Delete@49ersAccess, had rookie workouts featuring WRs.
BTW, Grant Cohn has lost more credibility. I saw Pearsall standout on the field in high-definition, with technical points for elite suddenness, flawless route running, and elite hand-placement, not allowing guys to get a clean bump on him. Pearsall was only shutout (0-4) only because Renardo Green blatantly held "slick" Rick, not once but twice, as well as spotty QB ball placement.
DeleteBYoung97
DeleteGrant ....WHO?
Players I'd like to see step up this season....@WR Pearsall @OG, Puni. @CB Green. @RB Isaac Guerendo, @TE Latu and @S Mustapha.
ReplyDeleteCowing repeatedly noted that his college head coach, Jedd Fisch, emphasized the same facets of WR play as Kyle Shanahan.
ReplyDeleteGreg Cosell had some positive comments re Cowing. Does Cowing spell the end for Danny Gray and Bell as 49ers? Gray can't get on the field and Bell did not make an impression last season. I expect both Gray and Bell to show serious urgency in TC. Not sure if it will be enough.
ReplyDeleteI bet Gray is gone and Bell to the PS if he clears waivers.
ReplyDeleteCoach,
ReplyDeleteIf Deebo, Aiyuk, Jennings, Pearsall and Cowing are on the team throughout the 24 season, it's going to be crazy!
It's a pretty good and deep WR group!
DeleteWatching footage of the WR drills from rookie minicamp - something I hadn't noticed in Pearsall's film but really showed up in the drills was how good he is at dropping his inside shoulder to help beat/ avoid press. Basically completely changes the strike point for the DB, and if they do get hands on him allows him an easier opportunity at ripping past them.
ReplyDeleteHis drop step route is as good if not better than Kittle's.
DeleteScooter,
ReplyDeleteThat's a good observation. Of the WRs going through the drills, Pearsall looked the sharpest and the most polished. I thought that Terique Owens showed well in the drills as well. He reminded me of his dad when he was running.
Drake Nugent looks like he has a legit shot at a roster spot.
ReplyDeleteI am thinking so. We have been clamoring for a center for many years. Let him and Purdy grow together.
DeleteRazor/Under,
DeleteWatch the Ohio St. Michigan game from this past season. Michael Hall utterly dominates Nugent. I'm not sure Nugent has the strength to play C in the NFL. He certainly possesses the speed and quickness but not the strength. I really don't want a repeat of Brendel being bullied by bigger stronger D linemen. Maybe after a couple of years on the practice squad Nugent could be ready. imho
OC
ReplyDelete"Brendel being bullied by bigger stronger D linemen" agreed
Jared Goff gets himself a 4-yr extension for $212M. On top of his current remaining year, that's 5 yrs, $240M. I don't see how Purdy would accept anything less than $50M per year at the end of the season.
ReplyDeleteScooter,
ReplyDeleteIt all depends on who signs between now and when BP signs. I wonder if the owners and players association will address the QB money/cap issue in the next contract. Which team/player will sign their QB to an Ohtani style contract?
OC, I can't see any entrenched starting QB taking less than $45M per in the next 12 months.
DeleteI'm not sure the Ohtani deal would even be permissible under current contract conditions in the NFL.
Scooter,
DeleteWhen I said it depends on who signs between now and when Purdy signs, I meant If someone signs for more than 50 mill that would drive BPs contract up. I wonder if the Ohtani signing is illegal under the current contract?
