Gameday Week 11: 49ers vs Packers

Razor, thanks for posting this. The information is, frankly, amazing. Lynch and company have done an amazing job. And I'm amused by the two NY teams being at the very bottom. What are the statistical odds that the two franchises of the same city both do such a horrid job?
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome.
DeleteWith Aiyuk's extension this year as well as BP's extension next year I foresee the 9ers number being closer to the mid teens by 2026.
ReplyDeleteI doubt it OC. While the stats here are meant to reflect the strength of the supporting cast, it's no accident that bar a few exceptions the top rated QBs and OCs are with teams that have a strong supporting cast, as measured by PFF ratings.
DeleteGood QBs/ OCs make the supporting cast look good. Yes, it goes the other way too, but to a lesser extent.
Scooter
DeleteOkay then how far do you see their score falling after BP and Aiyuk's new contract.
I think they'll stay top 10.
DeleteSorensen will hold his first presser as DC on Friday.
ReplyDeleteTerrell Owens just rubs me the wrong way.
ReplyDeleteDude still hasn't grown up. He's got the mentality of a child.
DeleteI believe it goes beyond an issue of maturity. I think he has other issues something closer to Charles Haley.
DeletePearsall was 87th percentile success rate against man coverage 75.8%, 2nd only to Rome Odunze in terms of beating man coverage.
ReplyDeleteIf Pearsall is who they think he is, I see no reason he can't carve out a role for himself this year as the 3rd WR, to provide a more dynamic 3rd receiver.
DeleteI like Pearsall, and actually touted him about a month before the draft. But, I had him as a rd 2 pick. I was hoping to trade up for a top OL pick. We'll see how it plays out with RP. But I believe that a top OL pick would have been a strong challenger to be a d1s.
ReplyDeleteThere's more than one way to protect Purdy. Doesn't have to be an offensive lineman you feel can't beat out your starter. Pearsall gives Purdy protection by being able to get open quicker than a hiccup.
DeleteAgreed. Hopefully, Pearsall has that type of impact going forward. But the best QB protection comes from the trenches, always has and always will. At the moment, unless something goes down with Deebo, Aiyuk and even
ReplyDeleteJennings, Pearsall is a luxury pick more than a "must have" at least in 2024, imho.
I'm with you on this one AES. I have been saying for awhile now that the Pearsall pick was a pick for 2025. Who knows by the end of the 25 season we may all be raving about how great a pick it was. I still would have rather seen them trade #31 and nexts years first to move up and pick a OT. If the rest of the draft had gone as it did I would have considered this draft to be a great draft. We could have rebuilt the entire right side of the line while providing the kind of O line depth we haven't seen in a long time (Feliciano and McKivitz)
DeleteI definitely would have preferred them to draft an OT, and trading up to do so was what I suggested they should do before the draft. Would have been happy with that - though not if it cost next years 1st.
DeleteBut barring that, I was also glad they didn't force the OT pick at 31. Or at 63. And as far as WR options at 31 went, I can see why they were attracted to Pearsall.
Yes, Coach. We've been on the same on weeks leading up to the draft. But, if RP produces, I don't have an issue.

ReplyDelete49ers UDFA OL Briason Mays:
ReplyDelete• Plays all 3 OL positions
• 6’3, 298lbs
• 33 5/8 inch arms
• RAS score (9.13) ranked 55 of 619 centers since 1987
• 4.48 shuttle time
• 7.41 3-cone
• Needs to improve technique, strength & anchor
• Athletic OL project
This regime has always been able to uncover gems in UDFA, hopefully they've found some in this 2024.

Nice stats. It's a very good commentary of the work this regime has done. But, now I'm speaking as an old man with less patience and it seems a little less tolerance.
ReplyDeleteWhy can't we get past the 6 place team on this stat page?
I said after the SB loss to KC, that Mahomes was the difference in KC winning. One great player can beat a team with great stats. If the 49ers high stat numbers can bring a SB win, I'll lean more on stats. But until then, just win a freaking SB!
No question in my mind if Greenlaw didn't go down we win that SB.
DeleteThink me crazy, but I believe that at some point within the next year and a half people will equate Purdy with Mahomes.
DeletePerhaps. But I will be ecstatic when Purdy and the 49ers hoist the Superbowl trophy. And after that, it's on to winning more SBs than the Patriots!
ReplyDeleteRazor / Scooter
ReplyDeleteThanks for the stat info and update. Been out of the country on business, so trying to catch up with the latest on 9er players drafted
and latest player info.
QUESTIONS:
* Any info on TE Latu? I see he'd still on the 9ers depth chart, is he healthy now?
* Puni: Do you see him as a starter at OG, or back up Center?
* CB's Renardo Green, Isaac Yiadom and Lenoir. Who moves to
NB?
Shanahan was asked whether Latu was now TE2 and he quite dismissively said no, he has to get on the field first. So take that as you will, but was hardly an encouraging statement.
DeleteLynch has said they see Puni getting work on the interior to start, and mentioned both OG and C as options. But sounded like OG mainly to start, so I expect he'll be given a chanceto compete there. Also said he offers 5 position flexibility.
CB is going to a fun battle to watch. Could go many different ways.
Tks scooter
DeleteThe good news is Latu frustrated Saban early on at Alabama so there's a chance it was just his brain overheating in last years camp.
DeleteR.I.P. 49ers great Jimmy Johnson
ReplyDeleteJimmy Johnson was a "shut-down Corner" before the term was used.
ReplyDeleteR.I.P.
The two best CBs of their era were right across the bay from each other JJ and Old Man Willie
DeleteJimmy take care my man.
DeletePearsall runs that drop step route just as good if not better than Kittle.
