And all through the house was talk of a Brandon Aiyuk trade. Chris Ballard of the Colts, Trent Baalke of the Jaguars and perhaps Mike Tomlin are all rumored to have interest. I think the wisest course of action if Aiyuk is asking over $25 million is to force him to play out the year and then tag-n-trade for a 2nd round pick.
For me, the draft has ended with the way it started because I still think Darius Robinson is their guy at 31. He's their archetype and he's gonna be there in the late 20's for certain. If they want to make sure they get him they can spend a 4th to do just that, however they could just stand pat if they like Michael Hall Jr. almost as much. Round 2 I have them trading up midway for Roger Rosengarten, OT, Washington. He'd present McKivitz with a robust competition.
Trade Recap

- 2024: Round 2, Pick 55
Miami Receives:- 2024: Round 2, Pick 63
- 2024: Round 4, Pick 124
My Selections
That looks pretty realistic to me razor, nice one.
ReplyDeleteI still don't love the udea of Robinson, I think he's more good than great, but I can see the 49ers loving him. Personally I prefer Hall, but I have heard there may be character concerns with Hall.
Hadn't heard that regarding Hall but thanks for the positive feedback. I probably won't sleep too good tonight....
Delete🤣 let's hope Lynch and Shanahan nail it.
DeleteApparently the medical red flag on Brian Thomas is a torn labrum in his shoulder that will require surgery "at some point".
ReplyDeleteSounds to me it is something he can play through. Kittle has played through a torn labrum since his rookie year
Yea, that's nothing like a knee or foot. Fuatanu's knee(s) would prevent me from drafting him in Round 1. Same goes for Newton, given the 5th metatarsal once broken is likely to keep breaking throughout his career.
DeleteI think we've seen thos offseason a huge focus on guys that stay healthy. I expect the draft picks will largely reflect this too, especially day 1 and 2.
DeleteDon't know if anyone follows Josh Norris and Hayden Wicks at Underdog Football, but I find them very good at scouting and pretty well informed.
ReplyDeleteWinks has the 49ers taking Johnny Newton. Norris, who has a pretty good track record with his mock drafts and has a tendency to be a bit more out there in terms of trades and linking players to teams, has the 49ers taking Rosengarten.
I think I've heard of Norris but not Underdog Football. I'll check it out.
DeleteNorris used to be at Rotoworld/ NBC Sports.
DeleteNice mock Razor.
ReplyDeleteI will be good with Darius Robinson and Javon Baker. I don't spend much time on scouting players and I'm by no means an expert, but these two players seem like good team fit.
Go Niners.
Thank you Mugeek9er.
DeleteMike Silver believes 49ers will draft BPA if they stay at 31, and is suggesting a DB could be BPA at that spot.
ReplyDeleteI told him they don't draft secondary before round 3 and he retweeted it! This could be a shift in philosophy....
DeleteNice!
DeleteInteresting... and one OC may like. In his final mock draft Josh Norris has the Raiders trading up from the 2nd round to 31 to take Penix. 49ers get 44, 112 + a 2nd next year in exchange for 31 and 135.
ReplyDeleteI saw that. That was a pretty good show.
DeleteI saw two mocks this morn on the NFL network that said the Raiders and the Broncos aren't going to wait, they are going to take Nix and Pennix with their first round picks. If that were to happen the 9ers chances of trading back would go way down.

ReplyDeleteWhy skill positions are riskiest 49ers draft picks and O-line is best.
* Why the 9ers should draft O-Line early and often.
https://sports.yahoo.com/why-skill-positions-49ers-riskiest-151838363.html
1) Protect BP, 9ers will go as far as he takes them. (to SB win?)
2) Improve O-Line: Give BP 3 seconds to find receivers and win more games
3) JL and KS have too many first round draft busts.
In terms of "too many first round draft busts"... what do you consider a bust, and what do you think the league average is based on that standard?
DeleteWhile they certainly aren't crushing the first round, I reckon you'll be surprised to find they are around league average. 2 of 7 have become all pros. 3 of 7 have become long term starters. 5 of 7 played 475 snaps or more last season. 6 of 7 remain in the league.
Really the only metric they lag badly against league average on is yhe definition of "hit" used in that article, based on signing a second contract with the team that drafted them. But a lot of factors go into that. E.g., if Aiyuk gets traded, he'd be considered a miss, when he clearly hasn't been.
DeleteScooter,
ReplyDeleteThe Lance pick was a total failure because of the subsequent loss of 1st picks that followed. If not for the surprising emergence of Brock Purdy, who knows how much trouble would be in today.
Solomon Thomas had an average impact, but nowhere near from what is expected of 1st rd #3 pick. Reuben Foster (though not the 49ers fault) was a failed 1st rd pick. Bosa has been the only 1st rd "hit" imho.
McGlinchy was above average.
I think Aiyuk was a hit as well, yes?
DeleteAs I said, I think people would be surprised how that stacks up against league average.
Yes, I forgot Aiyuk! Absolutely a "hit."
