* 9ER OFFENSE VS PACKERS DEFENSE:
The packers defense will be faced with stopping RB CMC, who led the NFL with 1,459 rushing yards and scored 21 touchdowns (14 rushing and 7 receiving). Then there are all pros TE Kittle, FB Juszczyk and LT Williams, as well as WR Aiyuk and Samuel.
* Aiyuk was chosen as a 2nd team All-Pro, catching 75 passes for a career-best 1,342 receiving yards.
Samuel joined Hall of Famer Charley Taylor to become the 2nd player in NFL history with at least 4,000 receiving yards and 1,000 rushing yards in his first 5 seasons.
* BP set a 9ers season records with 4,280 passing yards, a 113.0 passer rating and 9.6 yards per pass attempt.
* A key for a 9ers win, will be opening running lanes for CMC and protecting Purdy against a Packers pass rush led by Rashan Gary (9 sacks), Preston Smith (eight) and Kenny Clark (7.5 sacks).
THE 9ER DEFENSE: PRESSURE GB QB LOVE
* GB QB Jordan Love looks to be an emerging start, he got better as the season went on. He finished the regular season with 32 TD passes, 11 INT's and a passer rating of 96.0.
* Love toyed with the Cowgirls defense, completing 16 of 21 passes for 272 yards and 3 TD's to his receivers Jayden Reed, Romeo Doubs and Dontayvion Wicks.
* GB RB Aaron Jones is a load. Finally healthy, he tore off chunks of yardage against Dallas, carrying the ball 21 times for 118 rushing yards and three TD's on the ground.
* DT Armstead is back, returning to action after missing the last 5 games due to foot and knee issues. He'll team up with DT Hargrave to provide the 9ers with a stout interior to stop GB RB A.Jones.
DE Chase Young and Bosa will need to pressure love into making mistakes that 2nd team All-Pro, CB Charvarius Ward, and the 9er DB's can turn into INT's.
* First team All-Pro MLB Fred Warner, who leads the 9ers with 132 tackles, 4 INT's, 4 forced fumbles and 6 tackles for loss, will look to help limit GB RB Aaron Jones and TE Luke Musgrave, while adding to his stats.
SPECIAL TEAMS: These 2 teams do not excel on special teams, as
The 9ers and GB are ranked 25th and 29th, respectively.
* GB rookie, Anders Carlson has missed 5 extra points during the season and 1 more on Sunday against the Cowboys.
* 9er Kicker, Jake Moody, was mostly consistent during his 1st season, but he missed at inopportune times. he heads into his first postseason after a rough Week 18 performance, in which he missed a 38-yard field goal and an extra point. He was 60 for 60 on extra points before missing in a 1 point loss to the Rams.
* 9er Punter, M. Wishnowsky, had his best season with a 42.7 net average on 52 punts. 50% of his punts forced the opposition to begin their drives inside their own 20-yard line.
* GB return man Keisean Nixon was chosen to the All-Pro team for his work on kickoffs.
* 9ers Ray-Ray McCloud is back as the 9ers’ return man on kickoffs and punts after he missed more than a month with fractured ribs.
Also, 9ers core special-teams player George Odum is back after undergoing surgery to repair a torn biceps in late November.
This should be a game the 9ers win by 10+ points, but will depend on 4 things.
1) The 9er O-Line stopping GB's pass rush, giving BP time to find his receivers. 2) Opening holes for CMC to run thru. 3) The 9er defense Keeping GB RB Aron Jones out of the end zone and 4) Pressuring
Love into making mistakes and controlling his receivers YAC.
I feel the Packers can't stop the Niner offense. It will come down how the Niner defense handles the Packers offensive line.
ReplyDeleteHeavy rain now anticipated.

DeleteMy Niners first and second round pick projections for 2024:
ReplyDeleteRound 1: Byron Murphy II, DT(3T), Texas
Round 2: Kiran Amegadjie, OT, Yale
Razor
DeleteI believe both DT Byron Murphy and OT Kiran Amegadjie have been invited to the Reeses' St. Bowl and will show how they
compete with the other 2024 draft prospects.
* My concern with Kiran Amegadjie is, has he recovered 100% from quad surgery that ended his 2023 season?
Geep,
DeleteMy question about Amegadjie, is there any chance the injury could be chronic? We don't need another Kinlaw. How bout we draft healthy players in the first 5 rounds. Then take chances in rounds 6 and 7.
OldCoach
DeleteGood question! We should get a good read on Amegadjie
if (how) he plays in the Senior Bowl?
*&^*( # Forgot to log in
DeleteDon't believe Kiran will be ready for the Senior bowl.
DeleteNot a chronic injury, OldCoach. He had quad surgery and its about a 6 month recovery time. Similar to McGlinchey. Amegadjie can play guard too, and they wouldn't need him to start immediately, plus I plan on double dipping at the position after taking a safety with the first 3rd round pick, and the second, (compensatory) OT.
One of the few remaining questions left regarding BP is, can he play in moderate to heavy rain fall? If he plays like he did versus Cleveland or Drake (in college) GB may be moving on in the playoffs.

ReplyDeleteLatest 01/20/2024 evening weather forecast for Levi stadium is
light to moderate rain. Temp ranging from 59 to 62 deg F, with
wind 11 mph and gusts up to 18 mph.
NOTE: The packers have been practicing in weather from sub zero
to +11 deg F. They could suffer from heat stroke playing in 60 deg
weather..lol
Here's a hypothetical that might have a little bite to it. If the 49ers lose to the Packers this Saturday, should Shanahan be on the hot like Mike McCarthy is in Dallas? I don't expect the 49ers to lose, but if they do, we all know that this question suddenly will come to light.
ReplyDeleteHotseat? Lmao
DeleteIt may not be the right question to ask a few days before Saturday's showdown, but it's a fair one.
DeleteThe 49ers are head and shoulders better than the Packers. This is the best 49ers roster in the Shanahan/Lynch regime. Why shouldn't they be held accountable if they lose? Remember, "we don't put up Divisional and Championship banners. We put up Superbowl banners!" Jed York
The 3 worst moves the Yorks have made are the firing of 2 winning coaches. Those firings were followed by some long term down turns for the franchise. Off course I am referring to the firing of Mariucci and Harbaugh. The two most difficult tasks for a teams FO are drafting QBs and hiring a HC. When you find a HC that consistently puts his team in the playoffs you hold on to him. As horrible as McCarthy is, there is a very good chance that if the Cowboys fire him and hire the next hot coordinator they will experience many years of frustration. Cowboy fans should remember that it was the firing of Jimmy Johnson that brought on their decades of frustration. So regarding KS being on the hot seat regardless of how bad the 9ers could lose to GB firing him could bring on another decade of mediocrity.
DeleteCoach,
DeleteWith perhaps the best overall talent in the league (definitely better than the Packers), how much more can the 49ers FO be satisfied with the status quo? Heck, the Eagles were in the SB last year and now the FO might be considering some changes. At the moment it's looking like the stars are aligned for a 49ers SB win. Not making an appearance to the SB by losing to a young team with a 1st yr starting QB would be a huge underachievement and worthy of serious changes, imho.
As OC said, firing coaches that are consistently putting your team in contention to win the SB doesn't usually work out for the better. Good coaches are hard to find.
DeleteAs good as the 49ers roster is, do you believe they have gotten to 3 NFCCG's in the past 4 years in spite of Shanahan or because of Shanahan?
Brock Purdy the myth-buster
ReplyDeletedeep (20+ yard) throws:
63.8% completion - 1st
99.9 PFF Grade - 1st
11 TD / 1 INT - tied 1st most TDs
138.1 QB rating - 2nd
All throws:
8.6 ADOT (yards distance per throw) - 8th
5.8% BTT% (Big Time Throw Rate) - 5th
"Brock Purdy the myth-buster!"
ReplyDeleteThe MYTH" that will be busted is, can BP play in bad weather? * IMO, that question will be answered this Sat. against GB!
While Love and the Packers are a young team on the rise, they had their day in the sun against the (toy) boys! Lets remember the 9ers destroyed those same (toy) boys 42 to 10.
* Since GB is used to playing in bad weather, the myth that BP can't
win in bad weather will be BUSTED, when the 9ers win and end Love and GB's Cinderella season!
Geep,
DeleteWhat makes you think BP will excel if there is heavy to moderate rain Saturday?
Brock Purdy had the highest passer rating in the NFL over the last ten weeks when under pressure (103.5).
ReplyDeleteMark Chmura
ReplyDelete"You guys are going to think I'm crazy, a 15-yard penalty—and I don't condone this, but I kind of do in the playoffs—a 15-yard penalty for a late hit on Brock Purdy is not a bad thing, as long as it's worth it," Chmura said. "I'm just saying, this is the mindset you go into when it's battle."
UC,
ReplyDeleteThis is not as bad as the 2009 bountygate slush fund created by the Saints, but it's not a good statement even from a retired football player. Wonder how he would feel if the 49ers intentionally had late hits on Love and Aaron Jones? Yeah, that's not good football.
I remember the bounty gate, I thought this was somewhat along the same lines minus the cold cash.
DeleteThey're scared. They know the only chance they have is knocking Purdy out of the game.
DeleteOldCoach: "What makes you think BP will excel if there is heavy to moderate rain Saturday?"
ReplyDelete* The weather forecast at Levi Stadium evening on 01/20/2024 does
NOT look that bad....Showers with temp = 55 to 57 deg F. winds 5-7
MPH SSE.

* BP played for Iowa State University, he's played in bad weather B-4
* The Ravens game was an outlier for BP! GB's D, while good, is NOT on the same level as the Ravens D. IMO, the 9ers will be ready to make a statement against GB.
* KS, BP, 9er coaches and the players watched Love and GB defeat the (toy) boys! The 9ers won't come out flat or over confident, they still remember how defeat felt against the Eagles last year!
* Key 9ers players are healthy, rested and ready to play
* BP has heard enough about how he can't win in bad weather, he'll
accept this game as another challenge.
Geep,
DeleteI hope the weather isn't an issue but it is an El Nino year so you never know. If the weather is good there is no reason to believe that BP and the 9ers won't win (Vegas doesn't give 10 points in the 2nd round of the playoffs often) As to BP playing in heavy to moderate rain game according to BP himself he only played in one heavy rain game in college. He played Drake at Des Moines and according to BP he played terribly. We all know how he played in the rain in Cleve. So if it happens to rain hard Saturday I will be very concerned.
As you’ve told us ad nauseum-
DeleteMcCarthy back in Dallas.
ReplyDeleteGood. We host them again next year and Dak is gonna count 60M against cap. Love it!
Next year we host Dallas, KC and play the AFC East and NFC North. Quite a gauntlet of good teams/QBs.

WHO WINS, 9ERS VS GB: This tells you all you need to know!
ReplyDelete* 49ers' rushing offense, defense key to victory vs. Packers......
For San Francisco, both sides of the ball will focus on the run game -- starting and stopping it. For defensive coordinator Steve Wilks, his primary focus this week is game planning for an explosive Green Bay offense that is predicated on a bludgeoning rushing attack led by running back Aaron Jones.
"The number one thing is, we have to try and stop this run, to try and make them one-dimensional," Wilks shared after practice on Wednesday. "When they're very effective running the ball, I think it just opens up the play-action and that's when you see [Packers QB Jordan Love] being really effective in taking his shots down the field and finding an open receiver."
* Perhaps the biggest mismatch in this game will be the 49ers' rushing attack, led by All-Pro running back Christian McCaffrey, and the leaky Green Bay rushing defense.
The Packers surrendered the fifth-most rushing yards (2,181) and the eighth-most rushing first downs (120) to opposing offenses this season, including four games where opposing teams rushed for 200 or more yards.
rain wont affect niner run game.
ReplyDeleteKyle Shanahan has the highest playoff-winning percentage of coaches to never win a Super Bowl (.667)
ReplyDeleteWHAT TO LOOK FOR IN THE 9ER VS GB GAME
ReplyDelete1) Will CMC get off to a fast start? Will GB use 6 D-Linemen, to make the 9er offense one dimensional? (especially in the rain).
* GB is ranked 28th in rushing D this season. IMO, they'll stack the box trying to limit CMC. Can / will CMC score TD's as a receiver and rushing?
2) RT McKivitz VS Rashan Gary. He led the Packers with 9 sacks this season. Will the 9ers need to use Kittle to help McKivitz block Gary or use him as a receiver and force GB Defense to cover him?
3) DE Chase Young. With starting DE Clelin Ferrell out this week (knee injury), Young will start and play in base and nickel. He will go
against GB Packers LT Rasheed Walker, a 2nd year player who was a
7th Rd. draft pick from Penn St. How Young plays may determine
the 9ers interest keeping him next year!
4) LB Fred Warner. The All-Pro LB will play a big part in stopping GB
RB Aaron Jones. As important as CMC is to the 9er offense, A. Jones makes GB's offense go. (Jones rushed for more than 100 yards in 4 consecutive games) Stopping Jones limits Loves' play action and puts pressure on him to carry the Packers offense.
49ers should win this game by 15+ points. The weekend of upsets is over. Texans, GB, Bucs go out. The only game with an even chance of winning is the Chiefs v Bills.
ReplyDeleteAES
ReplyDeleteI'll agree with you on 2 conditions:
1) The 9ers CMC scores 2 TD's early and takes GB's RB
Aaron Jones out of the game, making GB one dimensional.
2) 9er RT McKivits keeps GB's Rashan Gary from sacking BP.
and the 9er O-Line keeps pressure off BP, giving him time to
connect with his receivers!
* GB D sack leaders: LB Gary 9.0, LB Smith 8.0, DL Clark 7.5, DL Wyatt 5.5, DL Brooks 4.0
GEEP,
ReplyDeleteThere is only one thing that still remains unanswered that hopefully the 49ers don't face tomorrow. Can the 49ers come from behind if they fall behind? Neither Shanahan and Purdy have put this issue to rest, yet. This is an important reason why the 49ers need to jump to an early lead, that hasn't been discussed much.
I, have the 49ers winning tomorrow, but this question will still persist going forward.

Geep,
DeleteI have been watching the NBC affiliate out of San Jose. Earlier today their meteorologist was predicting about 1/10 to 1/4 of an inch starting at 5:00 until 10:00. Later today he changed his prediction to 1/4 to just under 1/2. He said that could go up or down by tomorrow night. I have learned during El Nino winters the weather can change drastically in no time
THE 9ERS GETTING OFF TO A FAST START WINS GAMES! * The 49ers have experienced a lot of success early in games while earning the # 1 seed in the NFC. The 49ers scored 76 points on their opening drives this season — the best in the NFL since at least 2000. They outscored the opposition 115-63 in the first quarter of their 17 regular season games.
ReplyDelete* The Packers surrendered the fifth-most rushing yards (2,181) and the eighth-most rushing first downs (120) to opposing offenses this season, including four games where opposing teams rushed for 200 or more yards.
* The packers D will be faced with stopping 9ER RB CMC, who led the NFL with 1,459 rushing yards and scored 21 touchdowns (14 rushing and 7 receiving).
