Dirty Purdy

"Did he fire six shots or only five?" Well to tell you the truth in all this excitement I kinda lost track myself. But being this is a . 44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world and would blow your head clean off, you've gotta ask yourself one question: "Do I feel lucky?" Well, do ya, punk?

Players with above a 45% dvoa and .400 epa/play in a single season : 04 Peyton 07 Brady 11 Rodgers 23 Purdy

Some call him a game manager. I call him MVP.

  1. Arizona didn't blitz Purdy all game. First time in his career!

  2. Is he already a top 5 49ers QB of all time?

Frankie Albert would be in the HOF if he hadn't retired too young.
John Brodie should be in the HOF, will likely be put in by the vets committee .

      Jeff Garcia
I wouldn't put him in the top 5 until he plays at a high level for 5 full seasons. imho

    2. That's fair OC. Though I do think he is currently playing at a level that would put him in the top 5.

    3. There's not another quarterback in the NFL today that I would take over Brock Purdy. Nope, not even Mahomes! Sure feels good to have an elite quarterback after all the years of exiguousness since Steve Young.

    4. I’m with you. He is playing at a level that few other quarterbacks have ever reached and I would definitely put him in the top 5 of SF quarterbacks.

  3. I'm not an avid member of Purdy's fan club (joking). But, I am extremely happy with his great play. Brock has earned every acclaim he's received.
But, I am equally happy with the play of CMC and Deebo. Btw, the 49ers have won 6 straight games with Deebo back in the lineup after missing the better part of three games (played only 9 snaps against Cleveland).
I've made this 49ers season the Superbowl Win or Busts year.

My pick for MVP is CMC. My pick would likely be Deebo if he had been healthy all year.

  5. All QB's manage the game some can even impose their will on the game, as Kittle says nobody manages the game quite like him.

    ReplyDelete
  6. If this is how Purdy "game manages", we will be fine for the next 15 years. Sign me up for that...all day.

I wonder if these talking heads even watch the tape sometimes. That TD to Deebo was a thing of beauty....throw to Kittle with 9 on coverage was sublime. The 3rd and 12 conversion was pinpoint.

Purdy keeps improving every game....and his humility, poise increases. This is what you want in a QB. I'm excited for the future.

  7. GO SEAHAWKS!!!!! That gives us a little breathing room. Now all we have to do is win 2 out of 3. If we win the next 2 KS can rest a few of the starters against the Rams.

    1. hard to root for Seattle, and that soft zone/lack of containment was brutal, but what a catch/finish! 49ers are in

    2. sorry- great shape now......... would be interesting to see tape on the DT's and how it impacts their thinking moving forward w Ravens/Suh

      Delete
    3. OC, if they've wrapped up the first round bye by week 18, would you want to rest the starters? That would then be 3 weeks with no game...

      Delete
    4. That would be ideal if they could win the next two and rest the following players against the Rams, Armstead, Banks, and Greenlaw. Play the rest for a half maybe....

  8. The weirdest part about CMC's tenure with the 49ers, imo, is that the lift he's added to the 49ers passing game has been huge for the team, yet his production in the passing game has actually gone down compared to his time at the Panthers.

    ReplyDelete

    1. I've said it ad nauseum but that '84 Niners team with Tyler and Craig in the backfield just killed teams with the outlet passes. CMC has fuller route tree. Have you noticed on his choice routes he chooses the opposite of the defenders momemtum? I wonder if Brock reads the same thing.

      Delete
    2. CMC is the best route running RB I've ever seen. Could easily be a full time slot WR with the way he sets up defenders.

Faulk was amazing too, but was still more a RB that was too good and fast for the LBs covering him.

      Delete
    3. It's easy to tell why he's such a good route runner the way he's able to cut and dice his way through holes and making guys miss.

      Delete
    4. Yeah, what sets him apart as a receiver imo is how good he is in the stem - eats cushion, runs crisp routes and sets defenders up to create separation.

  9. WEEK 15: THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY........
    THE GOOD:
    * The 9ers extended its divisional winning streak to 12 with its 45-29 win over the Arizona.
    * 9ers clinched consecutive NFC West titles for the first time since 2012. It also became the first team to clinch a playoff spot and its
    division as well.

    * QB Brock Purdy:
Many names have been thrown at BP over the past few weeks. Game manager, YAC merchant, etc. - but MVP might be the one that sticks. Sunday marked the 3rd game this season Purdy has thrown for 4 TDs, with 2 in the last 3 weeks.
    * RB Christian McCaffrey:
It’s been a game of riches for the 9ers offense. In past weeks, it was the Deebo show. Before that, George Kittle had big games, and on Sunday, it was McCaffrey’s turn. CMC finished with 3 TDs - 2 in the air and 1 on the ground, leading the offense in rushing and receiving yards. It was the 2nd game this season that CMC finished with at least 3 scores, his first being against Arizona back in Week 4, where he finished with 4 TDs.
    * CB Charvarius Ward
Ward entered Sunday with the league lead in pass breakups. The 9ers’ cornerback finished Sunday with a pair of interceptions, the first multi-interception game of Ward’s career, and his int resulted in another 1st of his career. Murray dropped back and tried to find his TE McBride, but Ward jumped the route for his first TD of his career, giving the 9ers their first lead.

    THE BAD: The run defense
    * the 9ers run defense couldn’t stop the Cardinals. Granted The 9ers
were missing Armstead and Hargrave, but still, it’s not a performance you would like to see. After not allowing more than 160 rushing yards in a game this season, Arizona had its best game on the ground, with 234 yards on 30 attempts.
Arizona was led by RB Conner, who finished with 86 yards on 14 carries and their opening TD, while Demercardo added 64 yards on 4 rushes.
    * The 9er run D hasn’t been of much concern all season, but the 9ers host the best run offense in the league next week in the Ravens, and a performance like against Arizona might be a reason to be concerned.

    THE UGLY: Injury scares
    * CMC and BP had injury scares on back-to-back plays in the 2nd qtr! McCaffrey was dealing with a knee issue that caused him to get some looks from the training staff on the sideline following a drive. Then, on the play, after CMC seemed to have issues, Purdy was hit by Dennis Gardeck, who sent the 9ers QB to the blue tent before returning with what was later called a stinger.
Later, Randy Gregory knocked an Arizona lineman to the ground, but not before rolling up on the back of Bosa’s leg. Despite the scary play, Bosa missed several plays but returned to the game.

  10. The 9ers next NFL opponent, The Baltimore Ravens, have lost rookie RB Keaton Mitchell to a season ending ACL knee injury.
While Mitchell was not the Ravens starting RB, he was an explosive 4.37s speedster, with the potential to take it to the house any time he touched the ball.

    ReplyDelete
  11. WHEN IT RAINS, IT POURS:
9er DT's Hargrave and Armstead are both dealing with injury problems that forced them to miss the team’s game against the Cardinals. For Hargrave it’s a hamstring issue. Armstead has foot and knee ailments. On Wednesday the 9ers announced DT Kalia Davis was placed on IR with an ankle injury he suffered during Week 15 win in Arizona.
Davis had become an important part of a 49ers defensive tackle rotation that’s become seriously banged up. With Davis on IR, the 9ers only have Javon Kinlaw and Kevin Givens healthy on its roster.

    ReplyDelete
  12. The San Francisco 49ers just signed, Taylor Stallworth to their practice squad. 6th year veteran, 6'2" 300lb., D-Tackle who recently came off IR with the Tennessee Titans. He's started 58 games since 2018 and has logged 1,075 defensive snaps.

  13. Brock Purdy is 5/8 for 77 yards on Out routes to Aiyuk against Man this year.

    ReplyDelete
  14. If either Hargrave or Armstead or both are missing this Monday it will be a very long night for the 9ers D. Kinlaw took a giant step back last Sunday and TY McGill got shoved all over the field. The Ravens may run for over 200 yards and Jackson could throw for 250 or more. This may be the first big test for Purdy. The 9ers may need to score over 40 and possibly come from behind in the 4th quarter. Like I said earlier who ever wins this game will likely end up with the MVP.

  18. The All-Pro linebacker ,Fred Warner, said this that San 9ers defense has to be at the top of its game to contain Jackson on Monday night.
    * "When he is running, yeah, he can hurt you with his legs, but he can also hurt you by running [and] then look down the field and throw an explosive pass on you, that sort of thing," "And him being more aware of wanting to stay in the pocket and deliver the football to the receivers, playmakers.
    * "So you can't just sit there and say, 'Hey, just hold him in the pocket. Don't let him get loose.' You hold him in the pocket, and you don't apply pressure, then he's going to hit you deep. So that's where it's like, we got to be on top of every little detail this week.”

    * Jackson has completed 66.3 percent of his passes for 3,105 yards with 17 touchdowns and seven interceptions this season. He’s also rushed for 741 yards with five TDs.

    1. Well, after Shanny just said Armstead's a longshot I might've spoke too soon. I do think Armstead doesn't need to practice and go up to a game time decision, but he's the disciplinarian of that defensive line. He covers the whole players like Bosa leave when they venture away from their assignment.

49ers injury report: Hargrave returns to practice ahead of Ravens clash.
    * DT Javon Hargrave returned to practice on Friday after missing the 9ers’ Week 15 game due to a hamstring injury. Hargrave and DE Clelin Ferrell (ankle) took part in limited practice, along with backup O-Lineman Ben Bartch (finger) and RB Mitchell. (knee)

UNFORTUNATELY, WR Jennings (concussion), DT Armstead (foot and knee), TE Dwelley (ankle) and LB Oren Burks (knee), did not practice as the 9ers prepare to face the Ravens.

  23. Nick Mullens threw for over 400 yards today with 4 interceptions. Nick could always throw the ball well it’s just that half the time it was thrown to the other team. He hasn’t changed.

  24. NFL WEEK 16: 9ERS VS THE RAVENS: * On offense: A Key to a 9er win VS the Ravens today, will be C Jake Brendel doing his job. Brendel will be tested against the Bengals! * The Ravens DC, Macdonald, is one of the better DC's at calling D fronts that test opposing offenses.
    * Brendel is responsible for calling the O-Line pass protection adjustments that keep BP upright and give him the time to find
    his receivers.
    * The Ravens DT Justin Madubuike is a front-runners for the NFL D
Player of the Year. He has a career-high 12 sacks and has registered at least a 1/2 sack in 11 consecutive games. If Madubuike has a big day, BP will likely have a bad day!
    * BP, CMC, Deebo, Aiyuk and Kittle will all get their chances to impact the outcome of the game, but how well they succeed will depend on
how well Brendel does his job.

On Defense: A Key to a 9er win VS the Ravens today, will be NB Deommodore Lenoir.
    * He'll be tested trying to cover Ravens slot receivers Zay Flowers or Nelson Agholor.....And staying disciplined with his run fits against dual-threat QB Lamar Jackson.
    * Lenoir has career-highs with 2 interceptions and 8 passes broken up. He enters Monday’s game with 76 tackles. A Lenoir INT could be
the difference in a 9er win or loss today.
    * LB Fred Warner will also play a big role in making sure Jackson does not escape the pocket for big gains with his legs.
    * 9er DC Wilks success at making D adjustments has led to the 9ers
game winning streak. Wilks, will need to bring his A game today and he'll be missing DT Armstead when it comes to stopping the Ravens run game.
QB Lamar Jackson has 741 yard rushing and 5 TD's
RB Gus Edwards has 663 yards rushing and 11 TD's.
RB J Hill has 313 yards rushing and 3 TD's

    Ravens passing leader(s)
WR Zay flowers: 680 yards, average 10.5 yards and 3 TD's
WR Odell Beckham Jr: 519 yards, 16.2 yards average and 3 TD's
WR Nelson Agholor: 314 yards, 12.6 yards average and 3TD's
TE Mark Andrews: 544 yards, 12.1 yards average and 6 TD's

I look for a physical, close game with the 9ers winning by 7 points,
    Ravens 20 VS 9ers 27

3 keys to a 49ers victory: Super Bowl preview vs. the Ravens?
It’s a marque end-of-season matchup between the NFL’s best two teams, record-wise, this season, and one that holds heavy playoff implications for the 49ers as they look to clinch the No. 1 seed.
Should the 49ers win, they’ll need just one victory over their next two games and could wrap up the NFC by Week 17, allowing them to rest starters in Week 18 ahead of the playoffs.
