Week 15 Game Preview: 49ers at Seahawks

By Scooter_McG

The 49ers travel to Seattle to take on the Seahawks on Thursday Night Football. In keeping with the short week for the 49ers, this will only be a short preview as time is against me midweek unfortunately.

The 49ers will be hoping Brock Purdy recovers well enough from his oblique injury in time to lead them again this week, off the back of a most impressive first start (and really an impressive two games as he played the majority of the game the week before too). Christian McCaffrey is also coming off one of his most impressive performances since joining the 49ers and will be hoping to continue his form against a Seahawks team that ranks as one of the worst in stopping the run as well as preventing yards after the catch (shout out to razor for those stats earlier this week).

With Deebo missing I am expecting the 49ers to lean pretty heavily on CMC this week in both the ground game and the passing game, with a nice sprinkling of Mason to punish some would be Seahawks defenders. I also expect Aiyuk to be heavily involved and have a pretty big game.

The Seahawks started the season strong but have faded in recent weeks. Geno Smith has impressed this season but like the form of his team his play has not been quite as stellar as earlier in the season in the past month (though still pretty good). His worst game this year though came against the 49ers back in week 2, and the 49ers will be hoping to make the second contest just as difficult on him.

To add to the suspense of prime time football, the division title is on the line in this game. The 49ers can secure the division title with a victory - a win this week would mean the best Seattle can do is finish with the same record as the 49ers and the 49ers would win any tie-breaker courtesy of head-to-record. Here's to hoping we are toasting the NFC West division leaders by the end of Thursday night!

  1. Feels like a 40 burger in rushing attempts for the 49ers in this game.

    1. I am hoping Mason gets 20 + of the 40 burger. Unless the Niners get stupid they should win easily tomorrow night and it shouldn't matter whether it's Purdy or Josh at QB.

    2. Yep, no rest with thunder and lightning coming at you for 4 quarters. Grind their bones to make our bread!

    3. Just hope Kyle gets he needs to stop trying to run CmC up the gut, hes a physical back but its not worked out well as well increases odds of injury. Would love to see them line him and Mason in the backfield and then motion CmC out wide, this will keep d's honest, if they come down to flood the box you open up those throwing lanes, if they stay back to protect pass then Mason will be bruising for 7 yards.

  2. With the season on the line, Pete Carroll will motivate the heck out of his team (and also chew the heck out of his gum), but our talent carries us home!

Kenneth Walker III was a full participant, so he is expected to play. This guy is a star. With our already thin d-line, this is a matchup to look out for.

So, we will win, but will be a closer game IMO.

    1. I predict at least a 10 point victory.

    2. Voyons mon ami.....I would be glad if it's a blowout. :)

I'm also worried about these short week injuries. You know how these Thursday night games are!!

  3. * Missing Defensive lineman Shelby Harris and Al Woods, Seattle has allowed 160.5 yards per game, which puts them 31st in the NFL.
    * Opposing teams have rushed for at least 161 yards in the last 4 Seahawks games, and 2 opponents have gone over 200 yards, which means CMC and Mason should be in for big games.
    * Seattle was without RB's K. Walker III and DeeJay Dallas last week due to injuries and were out gained 223 to 46 on the ground. The 9ers boasts the league’s top rushing defense, allowing just 75.1 yards per game and 3.4 yards per carry.

    * Without a ground game, Seattle QB Geno Smith and his WR's Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf will be forced to carry the load against a 9er secondary that ranks 12th in the league against the pass, giving up 212 passing yards per game. They also have more interceptions (14) than TD passes allowed (12), which should mean Geno Smith will be in for a tough evening.
    * Weather conditions: 8% humidity with temps in low 40's to high 30's
    9ers 27 Seattle 9

QUESTION: Can Seattle’s 2 rookie tackles(Abraham Lucas and Charles Cross), contain Bosa and Ebukam?
In their first meeting this year, Bosa had 2 sacks and 5 QB hits.

  4. If I heard this correctly the Niners defense has of yet had an RB amass 60 yards in a game this year.

  5. Three things I fear going forward

    Special teams
    Defensive giving up big plays
    KS play calling

My one concern is the O line not being able to hear the snap count, they get frustrated and start making mistakes!
As long as the 9ers can run the ball, control the clock and
keep Seattle's offense on the bench, 9ers win the game and the division!

    2. Williams, McGlinchey and Brunskill been there, O-line does have question marks though. Going to be a great test for Purdy and the entire offense. Niners should be able to run but you never know what Caroll comes up with.

  6. Back in August I could not have imagined that Niners would be beating up the Brady Bucs with Purdy throwing TD to CMac, and Danny Gray having his first NFL catch thrown by Josh Johnson in mop-up duty.

But I could have imagined the Niners winning both games comfortably against the Seahawks, and I am standing by it. Niners win 20-10.
