Week 14 Matchup: Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. San Francisco 49ers

Good afternoon everyone and welcome to your live blog for 49ers football. Today's matchup features Mr. Irrelevant against the Goat. Jimmy G was money on 3rd downs and Purdy will need to look for 3rd and Jauan to keep the offense on schedule. Lots of moving parts for this game with weather being one of them. Field conditions are expected to be somewhat muddy from raining. With the 49ers activating Coleman, I expect a heavy OZ running game to avoid Vea in the middle. TOP will be more valuable than ever given the 49ers have a Thursday night game against their division rival, the Seattle Seahawks. If they can get out of this game with a win while mitigating snap counts for players like, Bosa and Armstead, we should all be singing, Jingle Bell Brock by the end of the day. Go Niners!

  1. A win today and again up in Seattle, for the most part clinches the division.

  2. * If the 9ers run the ball for 100+ yards and control the clocl, they win.
    * With Tristan Wirfs out with an ankle injury, I look for Bosa to have a big day with a couple of sacks.
    * If TB safeties Mike Edwards and Antoine Winfield Jr, are both out, I look for the 9er WR's to put up some good numbers.

    1. Despite having a rubbish OL, Brady doesn't get hit or sacked much. Gets rid of the ball too quickly. What I am hoping is the combo of pass rush and coverage makes life very difficult for the Bucs to move the ball.

    2. All those guys are out. Brady has been having to get rid of the ball in 2.2 seconds.

  3. I expect this to be a very low scoring game. SF should win this game handily but with a rookie on one side and Brady on the other, one score games are a major gamble.
I am back in the states for a few weeks again enjoying the games at a regular time. Staying up to watch the games until 2 am was a little bit rough. Thank you all for keeping this running. I hope you all are able to have a wonderful time with your family and friends.

    1. You expected wrong, Shoup but it's good to hear from ya. How's Prague?

    2. Yes, I thought it would be a close game and SF might eek it out but wouldn't have bet money on the game. Thrilled to have been wrong.
As to Prague normally I love it this time of year with the Christmas markets and all but I'm enjoying visiting the ranch again. But yeah its great there for the most part.

  4. The weather worries me wtih Purdy's lack of arm strenght. We really need to doninate in the run game.

  5. Worried about injuries this game. With rain and a wet field, I hope we come out without losing any players to injury.

With a short week travel to Seattle coming up, potentially with a division deciding game, play smart guys!

2.2 seconds release, should limit Brady and his receivers to short throws that allow 9er DBs to keep everything in front of them and as
you point out, TB's OLine is trash. that should allow the 9er D to make Brady and the TB offense one dimensional.
That also explains why the NO defense limited Brady to 3 points for all but the last few minutes of their game.

  7. Got lucky there... phew... what is up with this big plays given up by the secondary???

  8. That was a natural looking scramble run for a TD by Purdy!

  9. Wow! Best throw I have seen a Niner QB made in a while!

  10. This is unreal!
This kid certainly passes the eye test. Nice play-calling from Kyle as well.
CMC already has 80 scrimmage yards in 20 mins of play.

    1. Could be. But this is more of an indictment on Jimmy's game. I have NEVER ever seen KS this aggressive in the passing game since he got here! A TD under 2 mins before the half?! Wow!

    2. Yeah.....the Kid has the IT factor. QB room is solid now and Griese gets a lot of credit IMO.
Trey is the starter, but let him earn QB1 next year. Always good to have competition at every spot.

  12. Would like to see some Mason........... and Womack- I still prefer Ward anchoring the back end as Hufunga can be exposed in coverage.

  13. IMO, THE VERDICT IS IN: 3 THINGS WE CAN PUT TO BED!
    1) Mr irrelevant is NOT irrelevant, but is in FACT, very relevant......
    2) Purdy has a noodle arm, he can't throw long, he's not mobile, can't run and he'll be bothered by wind and bad weather.....
    3) He's a rookie that can't decipher defenses, or handle pressure from blitzing defenders....

    1. His arm is still in question... there were several plays where SF recievers were wide open behind the defense and had to wait for the ball. That said he's been great at ad libbing and reminds me a me a lot of Jeff Garcia... maybe not quite as fast but he's very slippery back there.

"His arm is still in question."
Like when he threw it 55+ yards to Aiyuk for a TD?

  15. Some better news....the Panthers just went up 27-17 against Seahawks with under 7mins in the 4th.

    3. And Al-Shaiir (sp?) too, I thought.

    4. No, Al-Shaair will be a F/A next year and I expect Curtis Robinson to take his place.

  17. Sounds like it is 3-6 weeks for Deebo. Could've been a lot worse.

    1. Dodged a bullet. Scooter, you think Danny Gray gets some of Deebo's snaps? I worry overusing CMC.

    2. Phew... that is a good news considering. We should be able to win the next 4 games even without Deebo. We just need him full go come playoff.

  18. Do we have any ideas on available DT's we might have interest in. Seems like 2 at least might be necessary.

  19. It's really hard not to say much after the two games that Purdy has played in. See what happens in Seattle, hostile crowd, short week, travel, with clinching the Division Championship.

There has been only one SF QB in franchise history that exuded with confidence and the will to win. Hmmm...
