Week 12: New Orleans Saints vs. San Francisco 49ers

Good afternoon everyone, and welcome to your gameday live blog matchup. The Saints come into this game 8 point underdogs, and the 49ers are coming off a short week and a spicy win in Mexico. Will they have an emotional let down? I don't think so. For a team that should have higher aspirations, the Saints present another opportunity to achieve them. Go Niners!

  1. No Marshon Lattimore for Saints.

    Go Niners 31-17

    1. He's good in coverage but not sure he's as good of a tackler.

    2. Yeah, he's an entrepreneur. Often makes a lot of biz decisions. :)

  3. Juan Jennings is having a nice game. Lucky on that tip.

  4. I'll take lucky. Maybe it wakes up the offense. Need to come out and drive for TD!

  5. As of now O-line not getting it done.

  6. Announcers said Niners D is the worst in the league on 3rd and short.

  7. Holy Cow sometimes it's best to be lucky than good.

  8. D is literally willing us to a win.

O has been putrid so far. OLine not holding up....We have been so lucky that the Saints DBs keep dropping Jimmy's throws.

  9. Okay offense let's get some first down and end this game.

  10. What a way to grind out a win! That was painful to watch on O.

Two things became very apparent to me:

    1) Demeco is becoming a HC next year. With the success Saleh is having and Demeco putting better stats, he will be a shoo in for a HC job. If the Texans even have average intelligence, they will hire him.

    2) This O can't hang with Dolphins O next week. After 4 straight wins, we might lose next week. But we still have a good enough team to make noise in the playoffs.

    1. Two sides to the game. Dolphins d gave up how many to chicago?Chicago?? Just cause they have a very good offense they have equally as porous a defense and will be scored on. They've scored 282 points but given up 256, that's just a 2.3 page difference.

Niners have scored 249 and only given up 173, that's a 76 difference and 6.9 ppg average, basically a whole td difference.

Miami may be a good offense but they're a shite defense and they barely win games.

    2. The Dolphins vs Chicago game had Justin fields running for about 200 yards and he single handedly accounted for about 4TDs. He WAS the offense. Dolphins D is much closer to the Chiefs D...Not great, but better than average.

Moreover, our D has been on a Historic run so far. But, that is not sustainable.....I think there might be a regression to the mean coming. Same with Jimmy's play.

Also, take the D's performance in context. Who have we played against the last 4 games?
      1) Rams....who are cooked
      2) Chargers without Keenan Allen or Mike Williams
      3) Cardinals without Murray and Brown/Moore
      4) The Saints without any WRs

The last time we played a good Offense (Chiefs), we got blown out. I think Dolphins Offense is at the same level of Chiefs. Of course, Tua is not at the level of Mahomes, but argument can be made that Tua is playing at an MVP level.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is that with speedy WRs, our D cannot play man and will inevitably have to go into zone coverage and with an accurate QB like Tua, that is a recipe for disaster.

We have two things going for us though...Shanahan is usually great against his understudies and the cross country trip that Dolphins have to make.

IMHO I think this will be an L, but I guess I'm saying that is OK. We can still qualify and make noise in the playoffs.

    3. The Dolphins D is bottom third against the pass and average yards per run. The Saints have a much better defense than what the 49ers will face next week.

It will be a tough game no doubt but if the 49ers defense can slow the Dolphins down its a winnable game.

  11. The streak of wins, no JG INTs, and second half shutouts all extend to 4.

  12. Character win. Gonna have to be better next week offensively.

  14. Niners D vs Miami's O will tell us a lot about these 2 teams. Miami is scorring at will and we hardly give up points. Something is got to give.😊

  15. Seems like an MCL sprain for Mitchell. Keeping my fingers crossed about Jimmy's knee.

  16. The 49ers defense has held its opponents scoreless for an entire half an NFL-high 6 times in 2022.

The Niners have also prevented its opponents from scoring a TD for an entire half 11 times, which the most in the NFL in 2022.

The Niners defense held the Saints to 63 rushing yds. on the day.
San Francisco has now kept their opponent under 100 rushing yds. in 8 of the team's 11 games, tied for the most in the NFL this season (Ten. - 8 games).
