A follow-up question about the Rams QB Stafford's right elbow tendinitis problem!

IS THIS CONFiRMATION THAT RAMS QB STAFFORD IS DEALING WITH ELBOW TENDINITIS?
    * Rams were eyeing Jimmy Garoppolo if 49ers released him……
Schefter wrote that “Garoppolo and the Rams had the makings of a deal if he was released by the Niners.
    * This raises a couple of questions for the Rams! For starters, is there legitimate concern in Los Angeles about Matthew Stafford’s elbow injury?
    * Secondly, their reported interest in Garoppolo suggests the Rams don’t have a ton of confidence in their back up QB’s Wolford and Perkins.

  2. We should get answers about the 9ers O-line today.
    * Has McGlinchey recovered from a quad injury?
    * Can the 9ers IOL protect Lance?
    * Can the 9er O-Line open lanes for the RB's?
    * Can the 9ers running game carry the offense, allowing Lance to throw less than 20 passes and defeat Chicago?
    * Can S Hufanga and Moore do their jobs, or will the 9er D miss Ward?
    * Can the 9er D control the bears offense and win the game?

    1. Eberflus had one of, if not the best 3rd down defense last year.
*Will that continue against the 49ers?

    2. I don't think CHI will find success w the running game, especially on the wet field, so I look to see how the Safeties/Corners do against Mooney as I suspect CHI will look to get him the ball deep.

  3. Well, the moment of reckoning is upon us. Defense is going to be an overwhelming force. The offense is uncertain due to the newness of the O-line and the QB. Niners should easily win this.

    1. Little surprised at TDP and Gray.

    2. Shanny has said that a tie goes to the player that can help the most on special teams, so for me it's not that much of a surprise.

    3. So much for the need of speed...

    4. I think the wet may have impacted the decision re Gray.

  5. Needed that one. Been dominating the game.

    1. Looked like it happened on Deebo's TD. Didn't look too serious, so hopefully just a precaution.

  7. So far I would say the Oline has looked decent. Not great, but good enough make you believe this team will be able to run the ball successfully this season.

Lance has been hit and miss but solid overall.

The refs have been terrible, every ticky tack call they can make they do.

  8. Ward having problems with Pettis...that's a bad look.

  9. I'm having a bad feeling about this game. Offense has dried up and penalties keeping Bears alive!

  10. Completely dominate a game only to blow it. Yup, this is still the 49ers we know and love.

    1. This is very similar to what we saw in the first half of the 2021 season.

      Delete
    2. Except last season was different because the 49ers didn't have a full blown QB controversy last season. Right now their OL is in shambles, and they have set themselves up for a QB controversy like no other!

    3. Dude, you said you wouldn't be back for a month you could go a day.

      Delete
    4. And the fact is, Trey Lance never really had a fighting chance! That's what is most upsetting to me.

      Delete
    5. Last year was exactly the same, just the QBs roles were reversed.

Didn't take advantage of early dominance, then sloppy, mistake riddled, undisciplined play let the other team back in it to win. Saw this a lot early on last season.

      Delete
    6. Yes, and the fact that their roles were reversed, presented a completely different dynamic. And if you don't understand why it's an entirely different dynamic, I don't what else I can tell you, other than watch the way this plays out in the media first, and then the locker room.

    7. Kyle Shanahan literally set his young QB up for failure!

And one more thing to consider ... it makes it a lot easier to make a change at QB when the QB you are benching isn't a TEAM CAPTAIN!

      Delete
    8. Way to make a team L all about one player.

      Delete
    9. I'm not. I said Lance never had a fighting chance.

This OL is laughably bad, and the reality is that Jimmy wouldn't do any better behind this OL, but sadly, none of that really matters because unfortunately "PERCEPTION IS REALITY" in this situation.

      Delete
    10. And Kyle can pretend all he wants that Trey is the 49ers starting QB, but none of that will matter if the core veterans in the 49ers locker room, believe Jimmy gives them a better chance to win. And that's LITERALY stacking the deck against Trey Lance.

And this is the part that I don't understand .... why in the world would Kyle stack the deck against his prized draft pick?

It's because for as BRILLIANT as Kyle is with the X's & O's, he simply should not be in complete control of the organizational decision making, because he can't see the forest through the trees.

      Delete
    11. "I'm not [making it all about Lance]."

Proceeds to comment all about Lance.

      Delete
    12. Dude said he'd be gone until October. Welp that didn't last.

      Delete
    13. OK then, let me be clear - CRYSTAL CLEAR!

It's all about Kyle Shanahan, and the decisions that KYLE makes. Unfortunately Trey Lance is caught in the crossfire!

It was shameful to choose this season to play 3 first-time starters among the interior of the OL. It was shameful to keep Jimmy around, lurking over Trey's shoulder. And it was shameful not to address the lack of depth behind Jimmy Ward!

And one last thing .... Kyle Shanahan does NOT GET TO ACT FRUSTRATED BECAUSE THE MEDIA IS ASKING ABOUT STARTING JIMMY!

That's 100% on KYLE! Kyle set it up like this, and Kyle even admitted that this would be the narrative if Trey got off to a shaky start, "and rightfully so" (Kyle's words, not mine).

      Delete
  11. Lance is going to have to shoulder a lot of the blame for this loss but there is enough to go around.

  12. I need to head to work now, will do a post game review when I get home. But pretty clear where this was lost.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Undisciplined pile of poo by the 49ers team today! As Under pointed out, they beat themselves. One of the worst losses in Shanny's tenure when comparing the rosters on paper.

    ReplyDelete
  14. One thing is obvious, the 9ers were NOT prepared to play the Bears...failure to execute and TOO MANY MISTAKES, just like
    last year.
    * The question is, will the $#it show begin now? Will fingers be pointed, everything questioned and blame be assigned?
Or will a win against Seattle fix all the problems? TBD!

    1. I'd be shocked if one loss was all it took for the wheels to fall off.

But I also hope it doesn't take 9 weeks of shooting themselves in the feet for the players to play smart, disciplined football.

    2. "I'd be shocked if one loss was all it took for the wheels to fall off."
ME TOO SCOOTER! But how to explain the O's missed opportunities in the first half and what happens if we get the same results against the Seahawks? That's the question, is it not?
      * ALSO, "IF we're a run first offense, is the IOL a playoff
      caliber unit?
      * For a defense that claims to be one of the best in the NFL
how to explain all the mental mistakes?

      Delete
    3. The run game wasn't the issue. And the issues regarding missed opportunities and mental mistakes on D are all issues that plagued the team during the start of last season. It isn't a talent issue, it's a discipline issue, and like last year it is up to the players to sort themselves out. As I said above, hopefully it won't take 9 games this year.

      Delete
    4. The OL was DEFINITELY an issue!:

ESPN’s Nick Wagoner noted that TREY LANCE was pressured 12 TIMES on 34 DROPBACKS despite the Bears NEVER sending an extra rusher. Teams in the last 15 seasons are now 1-6 in situations where their QB drops back 30-plus times and doesn’t face a blitz.

The 49ers chose to roll with a woefully inexperienced interior OL this season, which sure seems like a shameful thing to do to a young QB! Just saying.

      Delete
    5. I just can't wrap my head around the idea that Trey Lance's 1st season as the 49ers starting QB, would be the first time in the Kyle Shanahan era, where the 49ers didn't seem to prioritize experience along the interior of the OL.

It's simply ILLOGICAL from a teambuilding perspective if you're at all interested in prioritizing the development of your young QB!

      Delete
    6. Not that anyone is panicking after one game or anything...

      Delete
    7. Scooter, we've been talking about the OL all off-season. This didn't just appear out of thin air. Can they improve? Sure, but that's obviously going to be an uphill battle when you 3 inexperienced interior OL's all lined up in a row, and RT who isn't exactly in prime physical condition? Laken has been the ironman on the OL, and completely solidified the left side long with Trent, so you let him walk for a lineman who wasn't even good enough to be active most of last season? What?

      Delete
    8. Tom Brady would fail behind this OL!

      Delete
    9. My last point: You can't expect to develop a young, inexperienced QB, and a young, inexperienced interior OL at the same time. You can do one or the other, but you can't do both!

  15. Sometime last season Greenlaw started to commit boneheaded penalties...

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I like that the defense plays with aggression, but they also need to play smart. Greenlaw has struggled with the smart department since last season.

Today not only were there the penalties, but pretty sure he was responsible for leaving Pettis alone on the Bears first TD as both he and Al-Shaair followed Montgomery across the middle, and he also missed a few tackles.

      Delete
    2. Absolutely Mood and Scooter -- since last season, So disappointing. This game was no outlier for him. If they can only keep him or Al-Shaazir after this season, it's Al-Shaazirr. Not only responsible for the Pettis TD, but was he the one who fell for E. Brown's fake block on the 2nd TD? Or was that Hufanga finally having to cover?

      Delete
    3. Lee, you are correct, that was Greenlaw not staying disciplined and getting sucked up towards the LOS as well.

      Delete
    4. There were also a few tackles by Greenlaw towards the end of last season that were borderline late hits or excessive force but were ignored by the referees. It's almost like there is an increased lag between his brain signaling him to stop and his body actually reacting to that command. It's puzzling.

  16. Kyle Shanahan mentions that Ty Davis-Price and Danny Gray were primarily inactive because of special teams. He felt Mason and Turner were better fits for ST.
