Broken Down Ford

We're 4 weeks beyond the post June 1st date where the 49ers wouldn't incur as much of a dead cap penalty for releasing him. Shanny said he doesn't expect him to remain on the team. What's the hold up? I don't think he can pass his physical. That would mean they're in settlement negotiations, and I'd imagine the 49ers want to mitigate the cap restraints from hampering them down the road. Once that gets settled to everyone's satisfaction, I would expect a press conference announcing his retirement allowing the 49ers to salvage some of the cap damage Ford's deal has created.

Unfortunately, Ford has a cracked block and it's leaking water into the oil. And I agree, It appears the 9er are selling it with a salvage title....

    1. We should get closure on both Ford and Jimmy G here in a couple weeks, along with a Deebo deal.

  2. What if...and this is obviously not a reality but just for S&G, what if Ford has made a miraculous recovery and dude looks like 2018 Dee Ford, the dude who had 13 sacks and 7 forced fumbles?

I know thats not reality, but at this point who knows whats up and his cap hit is 6.9M and accounted for.

Looking at his deal, from Sprotrac, its so odd as there never is a season where his deadcap is actually less than his cap hit. This year his DC is listed as 14M vs 7M cap, next its 8.5M DC vs 5.8 Cap and the following its just 2.3M DC vs 920K cap. Obviously theres other factors which reduce the DC, otherwise it wouldn't make sense to eat 7M in cap space just to get him off the roster. Very odd contract structure, I'm thinking this is the best Parage(sp?) could do with what KC strapped him to.

Here's hoping this whole delay is some crazy comeback but reality its just working on a way to get the best cap relief possible.

    1. Yea, that back was reduced to being held together by shoestring and bubblegum. Maybe Kevin Copeland could blow his 'wind of God' on it, but it'd take one hell of a donation!
