Not So Little Brother

The prevailing thought is it'll be Kittle, Aiyuk or the combination of the two that will be picking up the slack for an injured Deebo Samuel. I see it differently. I think it'll be Jauan Jennings. I think he brings the physicality that Deebo did. He's been coming on strong and I feel like he's poised to take on a bigger role. Will Shanny feel the same way and feature the young man in the game plan against Seattle? If he does I think he'll be rewarded. Jennings led all college receivers with 30 broken tackles on 57 catches in 2019. What he lacks in speed is made up by his desire and grit. Do we have another sibling about to join the YAC Brothers?

  1. Yuppers, Jennings has earned some reps and I think KS also stated he wanted to get Benjamin some reps also.

    1. Shanny's had to scheme a bunch to account for the lack of protection against the bull rush from C and RG. If he wants to utilize Benjamin's downfield speed he should look to do it on 1st downs.

    2. You and I have been clamoring for drafting a center for many years now. I don't think it happens this coming draft either. It would be nice to have a center and QB that can grow together.

    3. Brendel might be that guy and I'd imagine he's been getting most of his work with Lance?

    4. I don't think the C of the future is on the roster.

Man, if Linderbaum somehow falls in the 2022 draft...

    5. I was eyeing Linderbaum in last years draft but he pulled a fast one and returned for another year at Iowa. Good call, Scooter.

  2. I'd like to see Hurst get his feet wet in this game. We're gonna need him down the stretch.

  3. "The coach added that several players would not practice. They are wide receiver Deebo Samuel (groin), linebacker Fred Warner (hamstring), running back Trey Sermon (ankle), linebacker Dre Greenlaw (groin), and linebacker Marcell Harris (concussion protocol). The 49ers are giving defensive end Nick Bosa, running back Elijah Mitchell, center Alex Mack, and tackle Trent Williams the day off."

    1. Sermon dodged a bullet with the ankle sprain. The way he was carted off I thought for sure we wouldn't be seeing him again until 2022.

Since you posted about 2022 draft, here is a question for either, or both of you.
What is top priority in the 2022 draft, CB or EDGE?
If it's EDGE, do the 9ers cut D. Ford?

    1. I imagine they'd love to get out from under Ford's contract but next year it's like 14-15 million dead cap hit. If I'm not mistaken 2023 voids after 2022 with a 5.7 million dead cap hit, if I'm reading it right. Barring a retirement or something of that nature I don't see how they can cut him.

Moseley has been great at cb. I don't see them changing their philosophy regarding where they value the position. I would think the offensive line, specifically the center position might be the priority. Just depends on what they do in free agency, how McGlinchey comes back, Moore and where his best fit is and whatnot. Scooter may have a different take.

    2. It would seem to me that FA will determine a lot. The eventual departure of JG should free up money which might determine what they do in FA.

  5. A lot of 1-yr deals on the roster from last year, but maybe the 49ers will get some luck with the Mostert and Verrett injuries if they can sign them to performance incentive laden deals.... I vote OL if they are able to re-sign some of the depth on the DL, but I also always want a shutdown Corner, if there is a shot at one.
