Gameday Week 10: Seahawks vs 49ers

If Lance plays poorly, wouldn't be surprised if they try and get JG back out their against the Rams. If Lance plays well, then JG is probably done in SF.
ReplyDeleteAs you said in the previous post, unless Lance has improved a fair bit since his last start, the 49ers chances of making the playoffs aren't looking so good atm.
Lance, the season is in your hands. I sure hope KS doesn't call 16 QB running plays.
ReplyDeleteFred said that Trey was slicing the defense (with the lance?)...
ReplyDeleteTo be fair, he's not exactly going against NFL caliber corners in practice :D.
DeleteThe Good.
ReplyDeleteI think this works out well for Lance. It should give him a few games of work in way that wont hurt his confidence or get him to develop bad habbits.
The Bad.
This has to hurt Jimmy's trade value whatever it was.
Question for the board, who should SF look for as their backup qb? I would assume they would want a vet to help mentor him. Taylor, Brissett, Bridgewater, Mariota?
I don't like the idea of Cam as a backup mostly because he is a big name who is not adept at reading defenses, honestly I would prefer a backup who could help Trey decipher what he is seeing. So I don't mind if they are less athletic.
Tyrod Taylor would be my first choice.
DeleteWhile I agree, I am curious as to your reasoning?
DeleteA decent amount of starting experience and has shown you can win some games with him with talent around him, but also accustomed to being a bridge or backup. Decent arm and can also use his legs to pick up yards. So should be able to run the full suite of plays they install for Lance.
DeleteI think it might be the guy they targeted initially. Andy Dalton.
DeleteI like Taylor but I believe Shanny will want a quarterback whose strength is pocket passing and deciphering defenses.
DeleteIf Brissett is available, the he and Dalton would be higher in my ranking than Taylor as potential backups..
DeleteKnowing Shanahan, it will probably be Brian Hoyer. :)
DeleteI think Dalton will have a market as a potential starter, so I have pretty much ruled him out. I think they need to target someone that will accept being a backup.
DeleteMaybe get a backup who has a big football IQ maybe Fitzpatrick?
ReplyDeleteI think this logic makes sense. I don't care so much about trying to mimic Lance's skill set as finding someone that might help him hone his craft in reading defenses.
DeleteMugeek9er - You shut your mouth, don't you put that bad juju out there in the atmosphere :D.
Ha!
DeleteA TUTORIAL IN LOGIC: The QB that KS and JL traded 3 1st Rd and a 3Rd Rd pick for then refused to play, because KS said JG gave the 9ers the best chance to win!
ReplyDeleteThis is the same JG that in his 4+ years as a 9er, spent 50% of his playing time on IR. And as KS told us, was the reason for trading up for Lance. But now, JG is hurt again and the same QB KS refused to play, will determine the success and or failure of the 9ers 2021 season....How ironic!
Fortunately, Miami beat the Saints, keeping the 9ers as the NFC 6th seed (for now). But the success of the 2021 season will now depend on Lance's success of getting the 9ers into the playoffs.
BTW: I believe the drought has, if not ended, then greatly reduced.
Lake Tahoe shatters 50-year December snowfall record with more than 16 feet of snow...
With four days left to go in the month, Lake Tahoe has already broken the record for December snowfall set 50 years ago. On Monday, December snow totals at the UC Berkeley Central Sierra Snow Lab reached 193.7 inches, blowing a 1970 record of 179 inches out of the water.
The lab, located at Donner Pass, has received roughly 39 inches of snow in the past 24 hours and could break the 200-inch mark today.

Thanks to the Dolphins, the 49ers are now back in control of their own destiny. Win out and they're in.

Deletequestion: Do you think JL and KS should send Miami GM Chris Grier a thank you note for A) Trading Miami's #3 draft spot to the 9ers they used to draft Lance? And
B) Miami beating NO and keeping the 9ers in the 6th playoff slot?
You forgot:

DeleteWho do you have the 9ers drafting with 2nd Rd pick?

A way too early Round 2 prospect I like is, Kingsley Enagbare, DE, South Carolina Gamecocks.
DeleteYea, I agree Enagbare would be a good 9er 2nd Rd draft pick, but I believe he'll go in the first Rd? The Mayo bowl game and his combine results will help determine where he'll be drafted.
DeleteTravon Walker, DE Georgia should still be available in
2nd Rd.
I wouldn't be shocked if the 49ers looked to bolster the OL again early in the 2022 draft. Mack is old, Tomlinson is a FA, the RT position is still a bit of a question mark, and neither of the rookies have done anything to prove they are the answer moving forward.
DeleteCB is obviously a need, but would be very surprised if FA wasn't used to fill that.
OL or edge definitely feel like the likely positions with early picks at this stage.
Got a few good centers in this draft in Linderbaum, Lindstrom, West and Patterson.
DeleteRasheed Walker, OT, Penn St. would be a player I'd look at in Round 2.
Scooter
DeleteRazor says, it's too early, but what's your opinion of Notre Dame OC Jarrett Patterson, or OG/OC Dohnovan West, Arizona St.?
GEEP, I've not really looked into potential draft prospects yet.
DeleteGeep,
DeleteI'm thrilled about the snow pack, I wish it would be more regular as our long dry summers always drain the reservoirs too quickly. Sadly the only thing regular in my parents part of California are the dry summers.
Razor,
DeleteYour statement in regards to the Oline is why I was so puzzled last year. Humphrey and Meyers were on the board in this last draft. They were both somewhat familiar with the outside zone, and were capable of playing guard before taking over at OC. So when SF took a guard only prospect that was ranked below them according to most draft sources I went through I was puzzled. I really don't understand how this team places "value" on certain players and positions.
I am guessing they will address their db's in free agency, and continue drafting along the lines.
RIP Mr. John Madden!
ReplyDeleteI was lucky enough to have attended Coach Maddens "John Madden's Man to Man Football" seminar at UC Berkeley extension in December 1979 (after his retirement from the Raiders but before he made the decision to try broadcasting). I have the course booklet somewhere (and autographed too), now if I can only find it!
DeleteWay cool rib.
DeleteI hate to tell you guys this, but after hearing what Fred Warner told team reporter Keiana Martin, I have serious concerns about Trey's development, and future success under Kyle.
ReplyDeleteApparently Trey's development was stalled out through the bulk of this season, and the problem? - Kyle Shanahan.
According to Warner, it wasn't until he (Fred, not Kyle) took Trey aside and offered him some advice, that he actually started to see some growth from the young QB.
"I'll say there was a time when he maybe wanted to not make mistakes out there against us," Warner explained to Martin. "He would hold onto the football, and he just likes to run and stuff. So I had to kind of pull him to the side and be like, 'Hey, Trey, listen. This is your time to make mistakes and to try to fit balls into tight areas, kind of just make it hard for yourself, go out there and just see what you can do. Because out here [on the practice field], it doesn't matter. You're not trying to win a game. You're trying to get better as a player.'"
Warner believes that's when things turned around for the 21-year-old.
"I think the moment that kind of clicked for him is when we started seeing him just diming different balls in different places, things that he probably didn't even know he was capable of," Warner continued. "That's where I really started to see the growth in his game."
In my opinion, this advice should have come from Kyle, but he won't, because Kyle is far too rigid and set in his ways at this stage of his career, to accept the fact that Trey Lance isn't Kirk Cousins, and probably never will be Kirk Cousins!
This is .... surreal! It's been reported that, despite having a grade 3 ligament sprain, Jimmy may play ahead of Trey Lance in Sunday's extremely important game vs a lousy Texans team.
ReplyDeleteSportMed - GRADE 3 (severe): A complete tear of the ligament resulting in severe pain, extensive bleeding, and swelling. The athlete is usually unable to bear weight on the limb. There may be a feeling of complete dislocation, even though that may not have happened.
Is this some kind of sick joke on Kyle Shanahan's part? Is Kyle punking the Faithful yet again, because if this doesn't raise red flags in regards to Trey Lance's development, I don't what else would!
Jaxon Smith-Njigba, 257 YDS and counting ..... Have yourself a game young man!
