MNF: Saints vs. Dolphins

Go Dolphins! If the Saints lose the 49ers will control their own destiny, unless they collapse after the disaster in Nashville.

  1. The Fins better win.

If Niners, Eagles and Saints all win out, then Niners will not make the play-offs because of their 2-4 Division record despite owning the tie-breaker over the Eagles.

The NFL rule for the tie-breaker is as follows :
    https://www.nfl.com/standings/tie-breaking-procedures

"To Break A Tie For The Wild-Card Team:

    Three or More Clubs:

If it is necessary to break ties to determine the two Wild-Card clubs from each conference, the following steps will be taken.

    1. If the tied clubs are from the same division, apply division tie breaker.
    2. If the tied clubs are from different divisions, apply the following steps (this one is applicable to the Niners).

    Steps:

    1. Apply division tie breaker to eliminate all but the highest ranked club in each division prior to proceeding to step 2. The original seeding within a division upon application of the division tie breaker remains the same for all subsequent applications of the procedure that are necessary to identify the two Wild-Card participants.

    2. Head-to-head sweep. (Applicable only if one club has defeated each of the others or if one club has lost to each of the others.)

    1. Yep, they've got no one to blame but themselves if that scenario unfolds the way you've got it mapped out.

    2. Too many screw-ups => post-season out of Niners' control.

    3. Yep, and I think it's really ridiculous! Even though the 49ers have nobody to blame but themselves, head-to-head should always be the first tiebreaker.

The NFL needs to fix this!

    4. Which team has the most difficult remaining schedule?

      NO - Miami (7-7), Carolina (5-10), @Atlanta (7-8)
      PH - @WTF (6-9), Dallas (11-4)
      SF - Hou (4-11), @LAR (11-4)

I'd say it comes down to how hard Dallas and Rams are going to play for seeding in week 18

  2. Hi guys its Tom i just want to apologise for Jimmy his behavior on the sideline and after the game that's not what i teached him, that's why Robert Kraft traded him cuz he didn't want to learn such a important trait for a QB cuz its about the team./

    Regards Tom Brady.

  3. I'm a little disappointed that Trent Williams leads the offensive line in penalties. He now has seven penalties on the season, second on the team only to Josh Norman’s nine.

Meanwhile, infuriating as it may be to all the PFF card-carrying Niners' fans, Tom Compton is the highest rated O linemen for the Niners in the Titans' game, ahead of Williams.

  4. If the Niners squeaked into the playoffs I do not think they will go far at all. The Niners need to score 30 + points for the win and that's hard to do against playoff teams.

    1. I'm not concerned about how they will play once they get into the play-offs. None of the NFC play-off teams look unbeatable. Packers needed 4 INTs from Mayfield to pull off a 2-point win at home against a depleted Browns.

There is a decent chance that Good Jimmy and Good Niners will show up in any given play-off game.

I'm more concerned about the Niners not getting into the play-offs.

    2. Jimmy may or may not play Sunday due to sprained thumb. The Trey Lance era could begin against the Texans.

    1. Apparently, the injury occurred early in the Titans game. Wonder if that thumb contributed to the accuracy of the Bad Jimmy throws. Too bad Jimmy never reconciled to throwing away balls in such circumstances.

    2. If it was affecting his throws in the Titans game, which I imagine it must have been, why didn't Shanahan pull him? Bad decision imo.

  6. Now needing other teams to lose is exactly why games like those against the Seahawks, a depleted Cardinals and the Titans are so infuriating. Perfect opportunities to win shut down by embarrassing performances.

    1. Yep. Before the playoff expansion and extended season, those losses probably would have already disqualified them.

    2. Can they be labeled "embarrassing performances" if the HC, and starting QB refuse to own up to it?

  7. By the way guys, who's to blame for the fact that Jimmy hasn't improved a lick since his first start back on 12/3/2017?

Is that solely an indictment of Jimmy, or is it also an indictment of Kyle and his coaching staff?

The reason I am asking this question now, is because I have a big problem with the way both Jimmy and Kyle answered for Jimmy's awful turnovers during Thursday Night's debacle. And then I went back and watched a few of Jimmy's other post-game pressors after a poor performance by him, and I can say they that, as a general rule, Jimmy doesn't seem to believe that, as the defacto team leader, he should go out of his way to shoulder the bulk of the blame, unlike most NFL "franchise" QB's do. I happen to believe a true leader goes out of his way to shoulder the blame and take accountability, even when they aren't necessarily at fault.

    1. Jimmy was asked how he would assess his performance after throwing two of the worst INT's you will ever see from an NFL QB, including a demoralizing pick in the endzone, which for NFL players, is tantamount to "killing a baby", and here is Jimmy's answer -

Reporter: How do you asses your own performance?

Jimmy: "Uh, you know, some good, some bad, I ah, you know, just I'm trying to go through it in my head ... we had a chance, I mean in a game like that, you get off to a hot start, we were rolling early on, and kind of just got a little sluggish in the middle there, but, uh I don't know ... it's tough when you let one like this slip away"

And then the reporter asks Jimmy specifically about the first INT in the endzone, and Jimmy refused to even suggest that he made a bad read and a bad play, saying nothing about the fact that he stared George down, telegraphing a pass that should never have been thrown in the first place, because at no point was George even close to opening up due to Jenkins having played it perfectly (despite initial outside leverage), he was always in a good position to intercept the pass. Not only did Jimmy not say it's a pass he shouldn't have thrown, he doubles down and says he'd go back to George on that play "every time", simply because Jenkins was in man coverage on him!

SMH, that's not an acceptable answer. In fact, that kind of mentality is part of the problem! It's no wonder Jimmy's prone to making so many poor decisions! As far as I am concerned, this type of answer not only shows an inability to self reflect, it also shows a real lack of understanding what leadership is all about, and why it's so important for the highest paid player on the team, by a lot, to stand up and make it clear that everything starts with him!

Perhaps just as problematic, was Kyle's answer in regards to Jimmy's two critical interceptions, refusing to assign any individual blame whatsoever -

Kyle: "They’re not all just on him, that’s on everybody out there.”

Some turnovers are a collective effort, and football is a team sport, but both of those INT's were 100% on Jimmy! We all saw it. We all know Kyle is lying about and covering for his $27M QB because we We all know how poorly Jimmy played. When the Head Coach refuses to assign any individual blame to his "team leader', after a piss-poor performance like that, the message he sends to the rest of his team is that no one individual should ever be held accountable for there own poor plays and/or poor decisions!

And how does that message play on a player like Aiyuk, whom Kyle and John have publicly chastised, even going as far as to question his effort, while other players like Jimmy and Josh Norman seem to play by a different set of rules than everyone else.

It's no wonder Brandon Aiyuk refused to wear the Kyle Shanahan - "Dreamathon" - Texas Longhorns T-shirt, despite the fact that every other WR on the roster agreed to wear one together, and then posted on social media in support of Kyle prior to Thursday's game. It seems very clear that Brandon Aiyuk still has a major problem with Kyle, and I am guessing it has something to do with Jimmy Garoppolo and others getting special treatment.

49ers’ QB Jimmy Garoppolo suffered a right thumb UCL tear along with a fracture, per source.

    1. On the surface, this injury seems very dubious. After all, it seems very suspicious that Kyle made no mention of this injury in his pots game press conference, even though he starts every post-game pressor with an injury update, and one would think that Kyle would be quick to use this as an excuse for his starting QB's poor performance. Also, Kyle says it happened during a 2nd QTR sack, but I've seen no evidence of this after a quick review of the game film. Not only that, Jimmy also made no mention of it, nor did he have his thumb wrapped during his post-game pressor. Wouldn't it make more sense to get that thumb wrapped up in ice, ASAP?

However, it's also worth remembering that Jimmy has been the most injury prone starting QB in the NFL, and we should have assumed he'd get hurt again before the end of the season!

Jimmy Garoppolo is a LOSER! He's not durable enough to play QB in the NFL, nor does he take ownership of the position, like every good franchise QB should.

      Goodbye, and good riddance!

    2. I should have known that this is the way it would end for Jimmy G!

I am so sick and tired of this guy. What an absolute farce this season is turning out to be!

  12. Even if we make the playoffs, Jimmy' penchant for rookie mistakes will cost the 49ers in the post season. JG simply can't be trusted in a close game or if the team falls behind by a touchdown or two (or sadly, being ahead by a TD or two). His football IQ needed to be questioned when he said after Thursday's game that he would always throw the ball to Kettle (re the Int in the endzone) in that situation. Well, Kittle was well covered by Jenkins who was actually in front of Kittle when the ball was thrown. That's called forcing the pass and having a DB in front of Kittle is called bone-headed.
It's time to roll the dice with Trey and see what he can do in the last to games. Maybe he does well, maybe he doesn't. But at least it's a good way to start planning for next season.
