  1. For what it's worth, Steve Young was on KNBR this morning (12/9), echoing my exact frustrations with Kyle's inability to find a way to get Trey Lance onto the football field.

And I get the sense that Steve is even angrier about it than I am!

    SMH!

    1. I'll say again what Steve Young was probably thinking, but couldn't say:

Calling Kyle Shanahan an "OFFENSIVE GENIUS" these days, is like the calling a yuppy who owns a Ferrari, but is afraid to take it out of his garage - "MARIO ANDRETTI".

    2. Young is a s--t disturber. He was when he was active Niner and still is now. You better hope Lance is the solution cause if he isn't I will be on his case big time. Remember next year he is not a rookie, I will expect him to take us to the SB regardless of KS play calling, special team's blunders, untimely penalties on both sides of the ball, dropped passes or fumbles and players not knowing their assignments. I will expect him to take us to the SB next year regardless if 21 starters are out injured.

    3. If shanny wants to be a top HC he should never put his ego first only when you are a multiple SB HC and still...
Sticking with the same formula that doesn't work keeps our beloved franchise in a circle.

    4. I don’t think anyone is more upset about it than you 49. Well maybe Grant Chon but he’s also loving it because he’s making a ton off of stirring the manure.
As to Young I understand where he’s coming from but he also had a lot experience coming in. Trey is in weird position, he neither has the experience or fully understands the offense.

Yes, he might know the plays but there is no way he can understand with in game processing at this time.

While I would have preferred biting the bullet and playing him immediately. I don’t think many of the vets would have been cool with that given they don’t want a wasted year... even if they got one anyway.

    5. Shoup, the team has put themselves in position to make the playoffs. Once in, anything can happen!

    6. Yeah I don’t subscribe to that, the goal regardless of who the QB was should have been to make the playoffs. The reason for keeping Jimmy was to make a playoff run. Meaning anything less than making it to the second round birth is a failure imo.
A first round exit means nothing.

    7. I'd like to see them play the Cardinals in the first round.

    8. WRONG, Shoup! The goal is to WIN THE SUPERBOWL!

We can quibble all day long about the pros and cons of shipping Jimmy off this off-season and starting Trey Lance, but that's not the most important point that Steve Young was making, and I don't know why you guys are conflating the two different issues.

The point is, Trey can make this team better this season, even in a limited specialized role. Trey could have helped the 49ers beat the Seahawks on Sunday, even in a limited role!

Stave Young understands this. I certainly understand this. In fact, a lot of folks around NFL circles know this.

And Kyle is delusional if he thinks opposing teams are spending much time preparing for Trey Lance anymore ... he's a forgotten man who hasn't taken a single snap since week 5! But I'll tell you what - they sure would be spending a significant amount of time preparing for him if Kyle was such a chicken s_it and actually used Trey in some capacity like we say vs GB, even if it's in a very limited capacity!

Perhaps more importantly, just as we saw VS the GB in week 3, there are things Trey can do to make this football team substantially better NOW, even strictly as a role player with a specific set of packages. And that's the most important job of a HC ... to give his team the best possible chance to win each and every Sunday!

The fact that Kyle isn't even capable of doing that to make his team better, and improve their chances, is why Steve Young is really pissed off this week! And it's one of the reasons, among many reasons, that Kyle's reputation has taken a huge hit this season, and why Kyle will no longer ever be considered an offensive genius, or among the leagues best HC's, despite his obvious brilliance as an offensive play designer / play caller!

The 49ers are on the brink of missing the playoffs for the 4th time in 5 seasons. Mediocre may be OK with you guys, but I find it a little insulting considered how storied the 49ersnhave been as a franchise.

The only reason the 49ers still have a chance at making the postseason is because the majority of the NFC aren't very good this year. If this was a normal season, the 49ers would almost certainly be on the outside looking in, but apparently mediocre is good enough for you guys.

SMH - oh how far the 49ers have fallen!

    9. The 49ers are a .500.football team, and they are on the brink of a wasted season, and you guys are acting like it's all good, simply because the 49ers may be able to back their way into the playoffs.

If you think this team is good enough to win the Super Bowl as the 7ths seed, you need to splash water on your face. Scratch that ... you need to dunk your head in a bucket of ice water while somebody simultaneously gives you a good spanking!

    10. A few of my puzzling questions and casual observations of this current 49ers regime:

      - Why should I expect better from the HC of the San Francisco 49ers?

Why shouldn't I be content with a sub .500 record, and one playoff appearance over the course of a 5 year span?

      - As for the lack of discilpline that seems to be a constant?

Who needs discipline, when you can run the football 45 times a game?

      - As for the chronic soft tissue injuries that have become one of the trademarks of the Shanahan ere?

I guess stretching is for pussies.

      - Why is it that certain obvious problems, like a lack of depth at certain positions like CB and the interior of the OL, are allowed to persist over multiple seasons, without being properly addressed?

Is it like Rummy would say: "you go to battle with the army you have, not the army you wished you had"

      - Speaking of using the top of the draft to address specific positions?

Who needs to find elite players with early round picks, when you can easily find a quality punter as late as early on day 3?

      - And how about our QB?

Why should a veteran QB with 8 years of experience have to bother with understanding where to expect ILB's to be in their underneath coverage assignments, as long as he's handsome enough to moonlight as a model for GQ Magazine?

      - Speaking of QB's: We all know that Jimmy is injury prone. That's not even up for debate. We also know whenever we've needed our backup QB to step in and keep things from falling apart when Jimmy does inevitably miss games. So since we are going to try to run this thing back one more time with Jimmy G, it's a perfect time to spend a franchise-record amount of draft capital on a QB of our future, and we can even shore up the backup QB position in the process. Let's not stop there. With such a dynamic duel threat skill set, why don't we find a way to to take advantage of his dynamic skill set, by developing specific packages for him, so that he can make us a better football team right away, as we attempt to run it back with Jimmy G for at least one more season.

I mean, does it really matter that the QB we chose, won't be able to shore up the backup QB position like we had hoped, because he "clearly" isn't ready to start, even though this issue has been a thorn in our side over the last 5 years? Oh well, at least he can help us in a specialized ...... wait, but didn't we get the fans all excited about the possibilities of implementing packages for the young phenom, by, you know, actually teasing them with the idea all through training camp and the preseason? Does it really matter if Trey has the potential to make us better this season, by using him in a way that allows me to dictate the way teams can defend us during certain scenarios like short yardage and the redzone, by spreading them out, and using Trey's natural gifts, even if he's ultimately handing the ball off, by taking advantage of 11-11 scenarios which essentially gives you a numbers advantage that has the same effect as having an additional "blocker" while using both zone/read and RPO concepts?

Ah, screw it. It's too hard to get into a play calling rhythm when I'm so busy spreading opposing defenses out and burning them with the numbers advantage.

      - And how about those home game?

Ah, who cares about winning the home games in front of the Faithful, diehard fans, when there are plenty of strip clubs in northern California that not only televise 49ers games along their mirrored interiors, but also provide convenient ATM's and cigarette vending machines, along with a couple of restrooms with broken stalls, two-way mirrors, and empty paper towel dispensers?

  3. At least he cares about the franchise undercenter and he has the right to say something cuz he won a SB and actually was on a level that the QB's after him only could dream of cuz they all where barely average expect now and than some flashes and that's not a good standard SIR./
