#49ers inactives: RB JaMycal Hasty DL Mo Hurst OL Colton McKivitz DE Jordan Willis It means that every #49ers rookie is in uniform for today's contest.

49ers’ RB Elijah Mitchell, listed as questionable for Sunday due to rib and finger injuries, is expected to play vs. the Vikings, per source.

  1. Can the Vikings makeshift D line stop the 9ers run game?

With Vikings shorthanded on defensive line, Sheldon Richardson in line for bigger role.
    * Everson Griffen is away from the team after a mental health incident on Wednesday. Now the Vikings also have a need at three-technique because starter Dalvin Tomlinson was placed on the COVID-19 list on Tuesday and won't play against the 49ers.
    * The Vikings are expected to be without their four preferred starters on the defensive line Sunday. Star defensive end Danielle Hunter was lost for the season with a torn pectoral muscle suffered Oct. 31 against Dallas, and nose tackle Michael Pierce will miss his seventh straight game while on injured reserve with an elbow injury.

yep and I'm crying my eyes out..lol (the bet in Vegas)

  2. Tomlinson just walked out for warmups and looks fine. I don't even see any tape on his ankle. I don't think it's any longer a question of resigning this guy but rather, how much? They have no choice. They have to resign him. He's too good and durable, plus combined with Williams you have continuity. He's a must sign in the offseason imho.

    1. Yup, Laken's always been under-rated. He's improved steadily over his seasons with the Niners and durability is unquestioned -- he doesn't miss snaps except to put on his shoes. I was championing his extension (and salary restructuring) over the off-season but ShanaLynch had other priorities I reckon.

      Delete
    2. With a rookie quarterback set to take over as the starter next year, not sure what would be a greater priority than solidifying his blind side by extending him.

      Delete
    3. I'd be shocked if the team didn't approach him last offseason about an extension. Which makes me think it was his decision to not extend, and that he wants to test the FA waters in hopes of a big contract.

      Delete
    4. Might have been what precipitated the Banks selection.

      Delete
    5. I think he likes it here base on whatever little I have heard from him in interviews. He wants to be a medical doctor when he retires. I expect him back.

      Delete
    6. I think he wants to be here... so long as he feels he is being remunerated appropriately.

    7. We're about to find out how much Shanny is willing to invest in the LG position.

  3. Scooter, do you think it ill advised to have a guy 2 weeks removed from a broken finger carrying the loaf of bread home to mama, and what does it say about how the coaching staff feels about the 6th round running back?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I'm surprised he's playing. Even if medically he is ok to play, you have to worry if the injured finger will affect him mentally re how he holds onto the ball.

I can't speak for Scooter! But IMO the only way they should use Mitchell is if Wilson and Sermon can't get the job done.
With the Vikings backup D line, there's no reason Wilson and Sermon can't keep the chains moving and the Viking offense off the field.

How does the coaching staff feel about the 6th round RB?
Like the 9ers can save a few $$ million by letting FA RB Raheem Mostert walk in 2022.

    1. I actually think there's a good chance Mostert returns because typically the market isn't strong for an oft injured running back coming off a knee injury. TBD.

      Delete
    2. Not to mention one 30 years old.

      Delete
    3. Yes, makes sense for Niners and Mostert to have him back next year on an incentive-laden deal (1 or 2 years with team discretion for second year).

      Delete
    4. Razor
You could be right, if he hasn't lost a step and he's willing to accept a reduced roll, with less reps.

      Delete
    5. Yep agree, I think Mostert will be back.

  5. Mac Jones is playing very well for a rookie. Has really fit into McDaniel's offense.

    1. Perfect spot for him. Lance's perfect spot here with Shanny? TBD.

    2. Whatever I have seen so far in Lance indicates a 10-year starter. Trust ShanaLynch to put a good team around him.

NE is leading the Titans 13 to 19 3rd Qtr with 8:39 left... If they win, I believe they're in first place in their Division.

    4. Watching that game now. It's remarkable how disciplined the Pats play and wait for the other side to make mistakes.

      Delete
    5. And Kendrick Bourne is having his best season yet.

      Delete
    6. He's playing pretty well for a veteran QB, let alone a rookie.

Will be interesting to see how he goes once he is fully up to NFL speed, reading defenses and executing his own offense.

      Delete
    7. Not sure how much higher is his ceiling. By the time he reaches that ceiling and gets paid, Pats won't be able to afford a lot of high-priced support players around him as they do now.

      Delete
    8. Yeah, I keep hearing that ceiling thing with regards to Jones. I find it hard to believe a player that had only 17 college starts and now 12 NFL starts doesn't have much room to grow.

      Delete
    9. It's always a risky business to project potential. He could be another Brady or Brees but it's also likely he will be another Cousins or Carr or Jimmy G based on his physical tools. Seems that Jones will be good to very good with sufficient support around him and the right scheme that leverages his short to mid-range accuracy and quick release. We will know more when the DCs has a off-season to study his film.

      Delete
    10. If his floor is Cousins, Carr or Jimmy G this early in his career, Patriots have to be feeling pretty good about drafting him.

Yep, projecting players is a great way to make you look foolish. But I just find it funny how many people have written off Mac Jones' potential ceiling as being not much better than what he already is despite having so little experience in college or the NFL. Maybe they are right. But a lot of great QBs didn't have elite physical traits.

  6. Niners' DBs and LBs need to learn and practice the peanut punch with Norman leading the drills. Get Charles Tillman as a consultant in his spare time (IIRC, he works for the FBI now) !

  7. With Mitchell back, Deebo can be more of a WR. Will be interesting how the Vikes defend the 18/19 Zorro / toss to Deebo. Teams have been trying to take it away early in the past two games.

    ReplyDelete
  8. If this game was played anywhere else other than Levi's I would say it would be another blowout with the Niners as the victor. Niners win a close one 3+.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Panthers and Eagles both losing today....we have to take care of business today.

Good to see all rookies suited up!

OTOH, why is Jordan Willis always inactive? Anyone has more information? Looked promising last season and between his 6 game suspension and inactive last few games....being a non-factor this season.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Damnit KS why are you going away from what was working. Run the ball

    ReplyDelete
  11. Bad things happen when the 49ers abandon the run...

  12. Good things happen when they run the ball.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Let’s hope Jimmy settles down.
That was a nice overall drive.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Defense will have to avoid giving up the big play...

    ReplyDelete
  15. That was a clutch stop. He looks like a nice addition.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Shanny the Niners play their best ball when they run and control the clock, keeping the other offense off the field.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Trick plays again Shanny, tells me we are in trouble.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Yeah this is a bad matchup for SF everything had Togo right for them to win imo.
On a different blog I picked Minn 33-17 as I thought they could score enough to eliminate the run game. Our D though so far has been better than I thought they would play.

    ReplyDelete

    1. No, but it was also because I figured if the o was put in a position where they couldn’t run it would snowball on them.

  19. Aiyuk needs to extend his hands. Not wait for the ball to come to him.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Wow, just wow. Not only bad Jimmy but bad Kyle. Lucky to get the holding call.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Niners are pretty thin at the RB position with Sermon out.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Time to come out and run the football. They're blocking well. Keep feeding Mitchell. Kid is a stud!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Jimmy is being his normal maddening self.
Terrible pass, missing an easy completion followed up with a clutch throw capped off with a nice td pass.
He is truly a Dr. Heckle and Mr. Hyde case.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Niners survived a bad Jimmy half. Let's have a good Jimmy half, please!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Damn, we praise Laken and he lays an egg.

  26. Run the ball and good things happen.

    1. Fools Gould but we held on for the win. Game ball to the offensive line, Mitchell and the defense.

  33. Wow....That was a clinic by the Special Teams on how to induce heart-attack amongst fans!

Mitchell is a baller! Jimmy G also had a good 2nd half.

Considering everything....great win. With the Rams in free-fall, we can shoot for the 5th seed and play the Cowboys in the playoffs. Wouldn't that be something!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Yeah, this game was insane. The D played Jimmy style today. Terrible play, then a great play.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Did Fred Warner get hurt in this game?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Doesn't matter how you win, so long as you win.

    1. And that was a pretty convincingly dominant win of a playoff caliber game. 423 yards total offense - Jimmy just 8 yards off of Cousins, 100 yards advantage rushing, 15 minutes TOP advantage, 2 to 1 turnover advantage. Big plays by a number of players on both sides of the ball. Only a couple of ST gaffs made the game as remotely close as it was.

  38. You know that feeling after a torrential thunderstorm clears, and the sun peeks through the clouds, while the songbirds sing, and the squirrels are back to running around from tree to tree?

It doesn't mean it's the last storm of the season, but for now I'm going to enjoy the sunshine on my shoulders and the smell of the green grass at my feet!

    ReplyDelete
  39. "Elijah Mitchell gained 81 yards and a scored one touchdown on 16 rushes against a stacked box, averaging 5.1 yards per such attempt."

    ReplyDelete
  40. I don't know about you guys, but I support Jed York leaking the news that Jimmy won't be back next season. I do think the timing was a little off, I would have rather that news "leaked" mid-week, but I think it's good to put some closure on the Garoppolo era now, as it gives his teammates an opportunity to use it as a rallying cry down the stretch.

Let's win this whole thing for Jimmy!

    ReplyDelete
  41. One more thing: Elijah Mitchell deserved the game ball today. I'm still alarmed that Kyle never thought to ask his head trainer which hand it was on, but that's no longer relevant. The fact that Elijah was able to play today, despite having a pin inserted in a finger on his dominant hand only 12 days ago, is mighty impressive. The fact that you'd never know he had this injury by the way he played today, is worthy of a game ball.

In fact, I'll go a step further. If it weren't for Debo, who is blowing our minds by doing things we've never really seen before, Elijah for me would be the team MVP.

Jimmy had been the MVP over their last 4 games, but he came back down to earth today, and had a much more typical Jimmy game. He wasn't bad per say, he just wasn't very good. He's a limited QB and those limitations were on clear display again today, (Kyle has obviously seen enough), but when you can dominate teams they way the 49ers are on the ground, you can earn a postseason birth even with a limited QB like Jimmy. We all know by now that he's definitely not a QB who is going to keep Defensive Coordinators up late at night before a playoff game, and he's more likely to break our hearts than he is to break his opponents back's, but he's definitely re-established his trade value heading into the offseason, and that puts the 49ers in a good place no matter how far they get this season.

    ReplyDelete
  42. A great win for the 9ers that moves them up into 6th place
for a playoff spot. But unfortunately it come at a COST!

49ers receiver Deebo Samuel suffered a groin injury and linebacker Fred Warner hurt his hamstring against the Vikings. After the game, head coach Kyle Shanahan said he did not know the severity of Samuel and Warner's injuries but that they would undergo MRIs. Running back Trey Sermon (ankle) and LB Dre Greenlaw (groin) also were ruled out.
