Game Night Live

This is a bit of a reversal from the last meeting when the 49ers were decimated by injuries, and subsequently taken to the woodshed. While the Packers haven't experienced that kind of decimation they will be missing LT #1 and #2. That could prove to be the difference in this game if Bosa and friends can take advantage and make Mr. Rodgers life miserable. Let's get to the inactives:

49ers

RB Elijah Mitchell G Aaron Banks CB Ambry Thomas CB Dre Kirkpatrick

Packers

CB Kevin King
OL Elgton Jenkins
S Vernon Scott
LB La’Darius Hamilton

  1. Donte Whitner seems to hold a grudge against Joe Barry... He thinks Niners O will run circles around Barry's pretty vanilla defensive scheme.

  2. Garoppolo and his poor passing mechanics ... here we go again.

  3. What a shame. The 49ees slept walked through the first half. Kyle has zero game clock sense, and between that, and DeMeco ridiculously poor defensive scheme at the end, the 49ers lost.

  4. If you aren't getting better, you're getting worse, and the Niners are definitely not getting better!

  5. Might be time to give Sherman a call.

  6. Very good game except for the loss, obviously.
The 49ers shook off their 1st half doldrums to have the opportunity to win at the end. But let's give A. Rodgers some credit. He was absolutely proficient in working the clock with 37 seconds and no time-outs left. Crosby was gold on his game winning field-goal, but Rodgers was the field general who advanced the ball upfield to give Crosby the opportunity.

The way Rodgers was playing early in the game I felt that we were going to get blown out. The fact that we went ahead in the 4th QTR is very encouraging.

If there's one disappointment, it's that the defensive line is not getting enough pressure on the QB.
Still, it was a great game and something to grow from even if we lost.

  7. The bottom line is, in the NFL, if you aren't getting better, you're getting worse.

Even a very talented team like the Niners can't afford to use their first 4 draft picks on players who aren't going to play/produce this season!

    1. I would say this game isn't on Kyle, but he did snap the ball with 12 seconds left on the play clock when they should have let in run down to 2 or 3 seconds, considering they had 3 TO's left.

That said, DeMeco is a huge disappointment. I never expected a drop off like this, but then again, like I said above, even good teams can afford to spend early picks on players who aren't going to contribute. Can't do it!

    2. But it's also on Jimmy's sub-par 1st half!

    3. "The bottom line is, in the NFL, if you aren't getting better, you're getting worse."

I don't necessarily adhere to that adage.
The Patriots won all their regular season games one year and than lost in the Superbowl.
The NY Giants had a losing regular season record than proceeded to win the Superbowl. It's quite a stretch to say you aren't getting better after one loss in a long football season and the above examples prove otherwise.

    4. No, I am not saying the Niners are worse per say, but the 2019 defense was leaps and bounds better. RB injuries are a big deal, no doubt about that.

But Trey Lance, Aaron Banks, Trey Sermon, are all part of the same zone/read package, and the grand master of the zone/read is getting a few snaps per game.

If they really wanted to run it back with Garoppolo, they should have drafted according. Even good teams need an influx of talented rookies, and the 49ers are getting much at all from theirs.

    5. And why didn't Kyle give another RB some snaps? What's the use of having all those new RB's active if you aren't going to use them.

Again though, in the end, this came down to Kyle's poor game clack management. Why is he snapping the ball, from the 12 yard line, on first down, with 12 seconds left on the play clock, 46 seconds left on the play clock, and all 3 timeouts? You have to do better in that situation to run clock. I was yelling at my TV screen, but Kyle couldn't hear me. What a bonehead he is as a HC. He's a great OC though!

    6. 49,
Guys fresh off the street seldom know the playbook, or the footwork that well. We are starting our 4th string rb, and his backup joined the team what, 2 weeks ago?

  8. The Niners aren't currently getting much from their 2021 draft class, and it's hurting them. And Garoppolo isn't improving as far as I can tell.

  9. "And why didn't Kyle give another RB some snaps? What's the use of having all those new RB's active if you aren't going to use them."

He did. I don't recall Juszczek getting as many touches as he had in yesterday's game.
Except for Mostert, we will eventually get our RBS on the field again along with better CB play when our pass rush becomes more consistent.
Yesterday we got beat by a sure HOF QB, which is something that he's been to even better defenses throughout his career.

Btw, I need to correct myself on something. Yesterday I mentioned that the NY Giants went to the SB sporting a losing regular season record. I was wrong, my apologies.
