The 49ers went down to the Packers 30-28 in what was a nail biter, with Mason Crosby kicking the game winning field goal as time expired. This was a game that threatened to get away from the 49ers early as they went down 17-0 late in the second quarter. But a long kick return by Trenton Cannon set up Trey Lance's second touchdown as a 49er to bring the team back to 17-7 at the half. They carried that momentum into the second half and fought back to 17-14, then 24-21, and finally took the lead 28-27 with just 0:37 seconds left on the game clock. It was a courageous display that ultimately was undone by a couple of clutch plays by Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams, helped by some poor defense, that let the Packers get Crosby in range for his 51-yard match sealer.
In my Week 3 matchups to watch post I outlined three areas I thought would be key to deciding the game:
- The 49ers edge rushers against the Packers backup OTs.
- The battle between LaFleur and Ryans, and how LaFleur would overcome the absences along the OL.
- How the 49ers backup RBs would fare against the Packers DL that had been poor through the first two weeks.
Unfortunately for the 49ers they lost all three of those key matchups.
Here's what stood out to me.
Rodgers wasn't made uncomfortable. On paper this looked like a very one-sided affair. Nick Bosa, Arik Armstead and Dee Ford were going to terrorise the Packers backup OTs all day and Aaron Rodgers was going to be running for his life. But somewhere the script got lost and the 49ers pass rush failed to generate much pressure on Rodgers throughout the game. Sure, there were some moments, but overall the Packers did an excellent job of keeping the 49ers pass rush at bay. The strange thing though is it wasn't all due to poor play of the 49ers DL - a lot of the credit goes to Rodgers who just did an excellent job of giving himself extra space. He took some deeper drops, he moved well in the pocket, and (most importantly) he got the ball out quickly most of the time while trusting his receivers to make plays.
LaFleur called a good game. I thought the LaFleur vs Ryans matchup would be a key one in deciding this, and in the end it was in my opinion. LaFleur is a big reason why the 49ers pass rush and defense in general struggled to keep the Packers in check. How do you stop a great pass rush? Step one is to keep a balanced offense to make the defense respect run and pass, sure, but it would have been easy for LaFleur to rely too heavily on runs and short passes without making the 49ers defense respect the deep ball. And it was also critical to take an early lead so the 49ers couldn't disregard the threat of the run and short passing game. LaFleur came out aggressive and stayed aggressive throughout, consistently giving Rodgers routes he could throw guys open to downfield 1-on-1, yet get the ball out quickly to negate the pass rush and get DBs backs turned so they couldn't make plays on the ball. Rodgers ball placement and understanding with his receivers did the rest.
It is easy to blame Ryans for his role in the loss, and he certainly deserves some blame. But also credit to LaFleur for letting his Hall of Fame QB use his arm talent to win the game.
49ers pass defense was poor. This is where the 49ers really struggled for mine. Yes, the pass rush didn't get the job done, but really it was the inability to cover for more than a couple of seconds that let the Packers and Aaron Rodgers get an early lead and then win it at the end. Too often the defenders let the Packers receivers win 1-on-1. Part of that was being too aggressive - by playing for the short game the 49ers defenders allowed the Packers receivers to get open behind them. There were also some very costly penalties that gave cheap yards and first downs. But really the 49ers just had no answer for Davante Adams, who was too good for any CB the 49ers put across from him.
It wasn't all bad, and there were some important defensive stops along the way, but the Packers receivers won the battles when they mattered.
The 49ers offense struggled early. The other part of the equation to getting an early lead for the Packers was smacking the 49ers in the mouth on defense. They did this to great effect, getting after Jimmy G in the early going, and more importantly putting the 49ers behind the sticks consistently by stuffing the 49ers running game. The 49ers struggled to get anything going on the ground all game.
Jimmy G and the passing game got going in the second half, and in the end the offense did enough to win the 49ers the game. But against a much-maligned Packers defense heading into the contest this was a disappointing offensive outing for the 49ers keyed by numerous lapses from the OL and some inopportune turnovers. While the turnovers didn't lead to many points, the INT ensured momentum continued for the Packers in the first half while the fumble halted the 49ers momentum in the second half.
Final Verdict
Going through the above it may sound all doom and gloom, but it shouldn't be overlooked that the 49ers overcame a rough first half that saw them in a 17-0 hole just before halftime to put themselves within 37 seconds of winning the game. There are definitely some areas for concern moving forward, but there was also reason for optimism with the way the offense played in the second half and even the defense played well for much of the second half. But letting the game slip at the end after doing so well to fight back can only be considered very disappointing.
Very nice breakdown Scooter, And thanks for having a small positive take away.
ReplyDeleteFirst things first, I think SF was outplayed and outcoached for the majority of this game. The pack deserved the win.
My biggest causes for concern were as follows.
SF lost in the trenches on both sides of the ball. And they did so in spite of having the healthier unit and home field advantage. This team cannot lose the trenches on both sides of the ball and expect to win.
Sermon does not look like a good fit for this offense. He's hesitant and doesn't appear to have the necessary burst... lets just hope that is because he's still learning how to run the outside zone.
Kyle, while innovative as a play caller, is incredibly conservative as a coach, he has consistently shied away from going for it when the numbers dictate that he should. This gives teams with good qb's more opportunities to score and is problematic when every team in the division has a quality dynamic starter.
On the plus side, SF didn't give up and fought hard throughout. And while Warner and Ryan's made several mistakes you have to believe that this will be a learning experience for both of them. This speaks well to the character of the team.
Even, Jimmy while struggling throughout (on the way to being the goat of the game) settled down and came through when it was needed most and he did so in the face of pressure.
The question now is, how can we expect this staff to adjust?
Will Kyle become more aggressive in going for it? Will he use Trey more to open up the running game (hold the end). Will Ryans start attempting to disguise his coverage or will he try to bring more pressure?
Really nice post, Shoup!
DeleteI think the 49ers have hit Jimmy's ceiling, and guess what, it's just not high enough against the better teams!
I think Kyle's failure to upgrade the QB position is the biggest failure, and my biggest disappointment!
Trey Lance has to become the solution moving forward, IMO!
Scooter / Shoup
DeleteNice breakdown Scooter, as always. I'm in tune with your points.
I still
Enjoyed this breakdown. Ultimately, they crapped out after rolling the dice on the secondary.
ReplyDeleteThanks Scooter. Great rundown and analysis.
ReplyDeleteImo JG has regressed, isn’t much of a plus, and if we lose to Seattle it’s time to start Lance no matter what. Mitchell returning would help too.
He certainly has, George. He doesn't line his feet up correctly on 90% of his passing attempts. In fact, he doesn't really use his bottom half at all on a lot of his passes.
DeleteHow does that not get fixed after all of these years? I think he was more accurate with that stupid brace on his knee, for crying out loud!
I can’t understand that about his footwork either. Would be a coaching issue, and if I were the owner paying him 27 million, I’d hold Shanahan accountable. The guy has the football world under a spell, and I wonder if it’s justified. As a nonprofessional I’d be foolish to say that any degree of certitude but still . . .
DeleteNice Scooter.
ReplyDeleteWe have to mention a number of other relevant factors in last night's heartbreaker.
- Yet another slow, INACCURATE start for Garoppolo. Poor mechanics lead to way to many wildly off target throws, even throws that should be pitch and catch.
- Kyle has to know by now that if you have an opportunity to bleed the clock, so as to not give Rodgers magic a chance, then you bleed the clock. The Niners had the ball first and 10 from the 12 with all three TO's, and a chance to run the game clock down to 25, before even running that play to Juice. Instead, they snapped it at 44, with 12 seconds left on the play clock.
Inexcusable!
FYI guys, Trey Sermon a terrific zone/read RB out of the shotgun. I am certain they felt he was a fantastic fit along side Trey Lance. Aaron Banks should also be a good fit running that stuff. I sure seems like ShanaLynch had an entirely different draft strategy than one would expect if the plan all along was to run it back another year with all of the limitations that Garoppolo causes an offense.
Botching their opportunity to make a clean break from Jimmy sometime late in the offseason, HAS naturally DOOMED this season, IMO. Plain and simple.
Yes, the injury have hurt, but I am done using that excuse. Kyle needs to make better decisions, not as an OC, but as a HC. He's failing as a HC! There, I said it!
The 49ers 2021 draft strategy may pay off in the future, but it's certainly hurting their chances this season!
DeleteMove along to another team. Faithful isn't in your DNA.
DeleteI've been a 49ers Faithful since the 1980's eMJay, so I think I've paid my dues!
DeleteJimmy G is not the answer, and I think honesty is reality.
Rose colored glasses doesn't win Championships, eMJay!
DeleteAnd it's getting to the point where I can't take Kyle's comments seriously, which is a shame. After last night's game he was asked why he didn't give carries to any of his active tailbacks, other than Sermon, despite Sermon's obvious struggles. Kyle's gave a nonsense answer. Kyle, the king of using multiple tailbacks claimed there was nothing unusual about that. What a CROCK!
ReplyDeleteTrent Cannon become the fastest ball carrier in the NFL this year, on his terrific kickoff return. Yet Kyle never thought to give him some carries and use him to perhaps get around the edge in the Packers' defense, and see if he could help spark their currently pathetic rushing attack.
It's one thing to hardly use Lance, despite the struggles running the football. It's something else entirely when you have 3 other RB suited up on the sideline!
Yet another perfect example that Kyle is both stubborn as a HC (in part due to his arrogance), and completely full of sh_t!
Pass defense is a combination of pass rush and competent DB play. Rodgers was getting the ball out within 2 seconds without hesitation, pretty confident that either the receiver will get the ball or will get a PI call. An extra half second or a second would have made a significant difference to the pass rush. A Verett or a 2019 Sherman would have gotten Rodgers to hesitate on some of those quick passes with those CBs probably in trail position to defend the back shoulder throws.
ReplyDeleteYes sir.
DeleteThat was how the Pack won, Mood. It was through Rodgers letting the ball go quick, taking shots downfield and trusting his guys and his ball placement to beat the 49ers 1-on-1 coverage.
DeleteYou think they will call Uncle Sherm?
DeleteCan they afford him? At this stage I think it is up to the guys they have to fix it.
DeleteIt is easy to forget in the disappointment of the loss, but the pass defense improved in the second half - until the last 30 seconds.
Jeff Deeney
Delete@PFF_Jeff
Aaron Rodgers’ average time from snap to release last night was just 2.15 seconds, second-fastest of any starting QB in Week 3 (Big Ben 2.09). Definitely helped neutralize #49ers pass rush.
Yep. But crucially it wasn't just a lot of short, underneath stuff. They neutralized the pass rush while still going for the big plays. Great, aggressive play calling and execution.
DeleteScooter,
DeleteI think a fair amount of this was due to the fact the SF just announced their coverage. They have to disguise their coverage just to make the QB hold the ball for 1 tick more. That could be the difference between a sack or a PI.
100% Shoup. The 49ers were playing pretty aggressive in coverage too, looking to jump underneath stuff. Packers came out expecting just that and took advantage.
DeleteAnother good game breakdown Scooter. Unfortunately, I don't share your optimism! * To me, the Packer game can best be described as problems, problems everywhere and little relief in sight! Being generous, the 9ers looked tired and flat in the 1st half. Yes, they looked better the 2nd half, but still too many mistakes to look like a contender.
ReplyDelete* After the first 3 games of the season, JG doesn't look like a QB that can get this team into the playoffs! IMO It's time to give Lance more playing time. I know, I've been against that, but this team needs a spark! Maybe Lance can add some big plays? It's time to find out.....
With the schedule, Seattle and Arizona next, the 9ers could well be a 2W - 3L team. KS and the 9er coaches have their work cut out for them these next 2 games as, the season couple easily slip away and be another lost season.
LETS HOPE NOT!
The thing is, Kyle agreed with your assessment, GGEP. We know he had lost faith in Jimmy by Kyle's own words and actions. Yet, here we are.
DeleteAfter 4 seasons of poor backup QB play, Kyle's answer is draft a kid who isn't ready to play? Are you kidding me, Kyle?
To be clear, my issues with Kyle are strictly with Kyle the Head Coach, not Kyle the play caller! And I've been consistent!
And I blame Kyle for the LA Rams FO seemingly running circles around the 49ers "front office!"
DeleteKyle needs to be left out of the personnel decision making, but that's never going to happen!
BTW, PFF had Jimmy Garoppolo tied for the worst performing offensive player last night (54.6 grade). Only Sermon graded out worse (54.0).
DeleteKind of hard to win big games against good teams when your 2 worst performing players are your starting QB and starting tailback!
Sorry, I meant Sermon was the second worst (55.0 PFF grade).
DeleteAnd if you don't like PFF, how about Jimmy's completion percentage above expectation
DeleteJimmy Garoppolo -5.3
Aaron Rodgers +13.1
We shouldn't be surprised they looked tired and flat. Shanahan spoke at length of this concern during the week after previous two game road trips. The fact they came back and nearly won against a good team is a good sign.
DeleteScooter
DeleteI agree, the sky is not falling....But, if you hope to
win a SB, you have to win your home games.
QUESTION: Do you believe the 9ers have played up to their potential? To me they have NOT!
Did you watch the Rams TB game? Can you see Garoppolo competing against Stafford? He's now the standard for this division, if you have SB aspirations....
No, I don't believe they have played up to their potential. It is week 3 though.
DeleteFor me, starting Lance is more about ball control, and time of possession, then it is about scoring more points than Jimmy.
DeleteThe 49ers may not score many more points right now with Lance at the helm, but they’ll have a much better chance of sustaining drives, and creating first downs. That in itself would give this team a much needed shot in the arm, because TOP benefits both the offense, and the defense.
At the very least Trey Lance ought to be more involved than he is now, that’s for sure!
I think one of the main reasons that Kyle can’t go away from Jimmy right now is that the team is 2-1, and Kyle allowed the locker room to chose sides during training camp. Jimmy is well liked within the LR, and a lot of these guys went to the Super Bowl with Jimmy, so they aren’t in favor of replacing Jimmy with a 21 year old rookie.
They should have traded or released Jimmy, like I said time and time again during the offseason
Micro-rant.
ReplyDeleteNiners fans call themselves "faithful" yet at the FIRST sign of issue all we hear is "f-kyle", "f-jimmy", "f-john", "this guys a bust, that guys a bust, everyones a bust, they suck"...blah blah blah. What an embarrassment to be sharing fandom with those who dare call themselves "faithful" and then at the first sign of distress, no matter real or perceived, turn on the team they claim to be diehard for.
2nd. Last nights game, while frustraiting and a let down, was NOT A BLOWOUT. The 49ers had the game won with 37 seconds left. Yes we can all go back and pick apart plays here and there, but the fact remains they had, for all intends and purposes, the game won. Lets not ignore that. 37 seconds away from 3-0.
Also, lets not forget who they played! This was a GB team who have been to 2 straight NFC Champ games!! They are literally the 2nd best team in the NFC for 2 straight years, and the Niners had them beat with under a minute to play. DO NOT OVER LOOK THIS FACT. This wasn't some trash team they struggled to beat, this is the Packers with Rodgers and Adams healthy. I'm guilty of expecting this to be an easier game than it was, but thats the fan in me, however I'd be stupid to say that a last second field goal loss to them is anything but a great loss. Niners put up 28, they did this with NO RUN GAME and NO PASS RUSH (because of AR getting balls out in 2.5 secs). Had either of those been present last night, different outcome, so lets not act like the team is in some bad way...they aren't.
Lastly, anyone who's actually watched football over the years knows when two REALLY good teams get together, scores almost always come down, both teams struggle (BECAUSE THE OTHER IS THAT GOOD), and both teams don't look like the dominant teams they are when they play the likes of the Jets. The fact that Jimmy made 2 mistakes, that the defense had its handsfull, that the run game wasn't getting off is because they played...The 2nd best team in the NFC the last 2 years.
Remember, in 2019 this team had some bad loses (ATL???) and came close a couple other times (TB, Pitt, to name two), so everyone needs to check their Faithful card and if all they want to do is hate, get to steppin.

ReplyDeleteRazor YES, MY POINT EXACTLY!
DeleteI'm also of the "opinion," that because of JG's limitations, he's been unable to get this team to play up to their potential and we need to see if Lance can. I'm NOT saying he can, but he needs to be given a chance (IE more playing time).
The first 3 passes where good by Jimmy G but after it was bad in the first half with the INT where he didnt looked off so that the Packers knew where he was gonna throw to also almost another INT but dropped ,2nd half was better but still if you see Rodgers throw he is miles ahead over Jimmy G the way he moves under pressure that's almost poetry.
ReplyDeleteIf Rodgers was qb here we would win the SB with Jimmy G everything needs to be perfect or a very bad day of the opponent.
I hope Trey progresses like Mahomes as scout qb and than takes over and never looks back./
That INT hurt, but it was literally milliseconds/millimeters from being a huge play for George.
DeleteeMJay if he didnt stare down Kittle
Deleteit wouldnt be a INT.
His fieldvision is not always good
that's a issue.
That's the difference with the elite guys.
Robber...rewatch the play, you're wrong.
DeleteMy take on the interception was a good play and throw by Jimmy G and an All-Pro play by the GB defensive back. It happens. The fumble on the other hand was a bad play that did come back to bite the team (since GB needed only a FG to win). But the defense was the bigger disappointment in this game, imo.
DeleteAgreed, Cubus.
DeleteAnd Dontae Johnson i dont understand why he even gets back every time that's ludicrous.
ReplyDelete@Scooter:
ReplyDeleteAny thoughts on the huge gaps in the wide nine which seem to have plagued the defense in terms of running yards given up. Also, it doesn't seem to me that the supposed advantage of a strong pass rush is happening. How about tightening the line up to a wide seven or something like that.
Wide 7, lmao! Good one, Cubus.
DeleteThought I saw Bosa play tighter fits than wide 9 most of the time -- 5 or 6 technique.
DeleteAs Mood said, they changed their alignment midway through the Lions game and have been playing a bit tighter since. The run defense wasn't great, but wasn't awful either. Do need to still improve it though.
DeleteI'm not seeing the DTs getting walked off the ball like against the Lions which is a good start.
@Scooter:
DeleteKocurek is supposed to be the jewel with regards to DL coaches. Does he have a strong preference for the wide 9 or just wide alignments in general? Or is that KS preference? Do you know?
Wide 9 is Kocurek's specialty. I think Ryans is the one responsible for the more compressed front on early downs they are using more of currently.
DeleteSome observations from a fan :) I'm trying to be as objective as possible.
ReplyDelete1) Kudos to Jimmy G. Lance getting the touchdown seemed to light a fire under him and he came alive on that last drive. Very heartening to see him respond in such a way to adversity!
2) Warner was bad in this game. You get the big bucks to make a big play during crunch time. If he wants to be great and wants to be talked at the Willis/Wagner level, he has to play better than this.
3) Deommodore Lenoir showed that he is a rookie and has a long way to go.
4) Shahnahan was terrible in this game. Clock/Game Management/Personnel Management were all crappy.
Game Mgmt: He still had 2 Time-outs at the end of the game. Why not use one to at least "ice" the kicker? I mean you do have the home team advantage right?
Personnel Mgmt: Why is Ambry Thomas Inactive? He sure could have helped this team yesterday...dressing multiple running backs and not playing them while making cornerbacks inactive does not help, especially when the CB position is held together with Hot Glue & Toothpicks.
Accountability: I have never seen KS accept responsibility for defeats. It is always "the QB missed this", "this player didn't see this". Demeco Ryans at least comes to the Press conference and says I need to be better. Overall these guys need to coach way better if we talk as if we are a superbowl team. Home opener and down 17 points with 3 minutes to go in the first half is unacceptable.
5) All that being said, Terrific comeback from the team overall. Shows that they have character and play for each other.
6) Matt LeFleur called a fantastic game. With his overall record, he is proving to be a better head coach than KS. Aaron Rodgers was his usual smug self (irritating but gotta tip the hat).
Will be interesting to see how this whole group plays against the Seahawks. I know the Seahawks & Russell Wilson will come to play....but will Shahnahan/Demeco and co?
All I say to the doom-and-gloomers (there is no shortage of them):
DeleteR--E--L--A--X.
It's a long season.
How was Warner terrible? He gave up the PI which was bad, and he just failed to get his hands on the ball to tip a pass late in the game... but other than that nothing stood out to me.
DeleteDemo showed a great WR like Adams is better than him at this stage. No surprise there.
Shanahan and Ryans definitely got out coached in this one.
Mood Indigo - It is not all doom and gloom bud. There were a few good things and I pointed that out, if you had read my full comment.
DeleteScooter - Even those two plays which you pointed out, they were so pivotal in the context of the game. I saw couple more plays where Warner was not where he was supposed to be.
I must admit I didn't notice anything negative from Warner outside those two plays, and the second one (going over his outstretched hand) I don't believe was due to him being out of position - I think that was the guys behind him. I did see him make some good stops for short yardage, as usual. It wasn't a good game for him, but I struggle to say he was bad.

Listening to a podcast that did film study on SF’s defense. They stated that GB and Philadelphia both used the slot wr to chip/double Bosa and roll their protection to the other side.
ReplyDeleteThis effectively kept a DB occupied in man with a blocker. And allowed them to Double Bosa without losing another pass protector.
Great insights of Donte Hitner about our team with papa
ReplyDeleteI have a question for the fans that want Trey Lance in at QB: What is it you saw in his performance in Preseason that makes you feel he's ready? Also why do you think Shanahan would keep him on the bench if he felt Lance was ready?
ReplyDeleteIt seems like after a loss people lose their minds and start calling for changes, usually the QB and don't focus on the reasons the team might have lost. The biggest area of concern for me is the Oline. They can't run the ball, which hurts the play action game and when they are in obvious passing situations they don't pass protect well either. Garoppolo was under pressure on 34 percent of his dropbacks and it was usually very quick pressure. I know Lance is athletic but with his lack of experience he's either going to take a crap load of sacks like Fields did last week or he's going to throw some picks. A rookie is not going to do well unless the OLine is playing well and right now ours is not. Say what you want about JG but he stands in there to deliver the football which the kid is not going to do.
My second concern is Ryans at DC. He doesn't seem to be able to adapt very well during a game and it's worrisome. The Detroit game featured the Lions moving the ball at will in the last few minutes, the Eagles game featured multiple easy escapes by Hurts for big gains without any real change in the defense to counter it and on Sunday he didn't put anybody on Adams during the final 37 seconds allowing him to ease his way through the zones and find open space. These are crucial mistakes that are costing the team big time.
There are other issues like depth at CB and RB obviously, but that is to be expected with the injuries to those position groups. What wasn't expected at least for me was the OL struggling in all areas and the DC not being able to counter was the offense is doing. If we don't get those problems fixed it won't matter who is playing QB.
Ryans is new at it, he will adjust.
DeleteLance is not ready, he's the least prepared rookie qb in the draft, and look how awful all of them have looked. Even Mac Jones has not been all that great, so anyone thinking Lance will be better are the same jabronis who cant get over Rodgers going to GB and thinking he'd have won SBs had he come here. Ignorance.
Does the team have some holes to patch, yes, but we need to remember they lost by 2, at the last second, to the 2nd best NFC team the last 2 years. Thats not bad.
I'm not panicking at all, just throwing out things that I'm concerned about a lot more than the QB. I agree with you on Lance. He's the least experienced of any of the QB's taken in the draft and was inconsistent in the preseason. Why anyone would think he's ready to step in and take over is beyond me but that is how fans react sometimes I guess.
DeleteGood perspective, eMJay.
DeleteThe run defense can be cleaned up and should show improvement, but the pass defense currently appears to have no answer for a top-5 QB operating with top-5 receiver.
A bigger concern for me was the performance of the O line. Trent Williams whiffed on a block that led to a sack. Mack had a poor game (mishandling the ball that led to a loss of a yard on third down, allowing pressure on QB at other times) and the right side did not hold up well against the Packers D line.

Delete"I have a question for the fans that want Trey Lance in at QB: What is it you saw in his performance in Preseason that makes you feel he's ready?"
* Lets not confuse the issue of Lance becoming the starting QB VS inserting him into the game to run set plays.
* When KS has inserted Lance into the game, the 9ers score a TD. Last time I checked, that was the object of the game.
* Forget the preseason, it's about the 9ers winning in the regular season. If the 9ers expect to be a playoff team, they need to win their home games!
* On Sunday (10/03/2021) the 9ers play the Seahawks for the dubious distinction of seeing who will be the
last place team in the NFC West.
* We can make all the excuses we want, but the FACT IS the 9ers have yet to play a game where they dominate the opposing team. Thru the first 3 2021 games, the 9ers play is at best SLOPPY and JG is uninspiring. Not the look of a SB contender.
* The Rams just beat Tampa Bay and Brady. They are the division leader and their QB is Stafford. Per Spotrac
Stafford's 2021 salary is $9.5 Mil. a $10 Mil. signing bonus and a $500K workout bonus. Total = $20 Mil.
The 9ers will play Seattle Sun. to see who will be the last place team in the NFC West. The 9er QB is JG! Per Spotrac, his 2021 base salary is $24.1 Mil. + a $1.4 Mil. signing bonus, a $282,353 Roster bonus + a $600K workout bonus. A total 2021 salary is $26.9 Mil.
* HERE'S A QUESTION FOR Y0U. WHO'S PERFORMANCE (after 3 games), IS WORTH THEIR SALARY? IN THE END (THE SB) THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE...
WOULD YOU BET YOUR HOUSE ON JG, OR STAFFORD?

ReplyDeleteThis was a frustrating loss because we had the game wrapped up with only 37 sec left. I felt that even with Rodgers at the helm we were in good shape given GB had no timeouts.
ReplyDeleteBut, this is Aaron Rodgers we're talking about.
I believe that had we pass rushed Rodgers more aggressively that we would have won.
Therein lies my issue with the defense. Our defensive front line was supposed to be the strength of the D and so far it has been average imho.
But, I am not panicking because our two best PR's Bosa and Ford are still in preseason firm. As they get more snaps they will elevate their skills.
Now, regarding the game with Seattle this Sunday. We need a win. Seattle has always played us with a confident swag over the years and that has to stop. All games are important, but beating the Seahags makes an important statement going forward.
I think people are being a bit over-reactionary on the pass rush "woes". It wasn't dominant against the Packers by any stretch of the imagination, but hard to dominate when the QBs average time to release is just 2.15 seconds.
DeleteRight now they just need to find a way to counter the inside receiver chipping him. Once they do that I think their pass rush will be very good again.
DeleteI'm going to put the loss to GB on the fact that a bonified future HOF QB reared up and beat us.
DeleteIt's all about Seattle this Sunday. They are hungry for a win especially given the fact that the Rams look very strong. I'd hate to lose two straight home games, but on the other hand, this would be a good time for the 49ers to send them reeling off the tracks.
Its not that Trey had no experience under center its just about live reps that he's lacking,as a HC you cant be always conservative with keeping your average exoerienced qb in who limits the offense its not the Bears or Jets who are not on our level.
ReplyDeleteOur o-line isnt bad Jimmy G had a lot of times 5seconds to throw the ball but hey he isnt Rodgers he is to limited not a bust but just not a top 12 qb.
When Kap came in for us he gave us a spark this can happen with Trey also and a more reasonable chance cuz he is a much more filmjunkie and better preparation than Kap.
