Anyone else excited for Sunday besides myself? Baldinger was asked on the Game yesterday which player he was most excited to see in Detroit. His answer shouldn't surprise you. "Bosa!" "To me, he is the one guy—we saw it last year—that cannot be replaced on that football team. The way that he plays, the energy, the effort, the talent, he's the one irreplaceable player. And he makes everyone in the whole building better. He makes John Lynch better. He makes Kyle Shanahan better. He makes Javon Kinlaw better. He makes everybody better. And so, that's the one guy I can't wait to watch." "He plays with such power," Baldinger explained. "Can he play with more finesse? I know he can, but sometimes you just want to run guys over, and there's a place for that. And then there's some guys that you just want to be able to literally just do a two-hand swipe to, and just eliminate them. I just think there's a balance between power and finesse at that position. He has the ability to do both, but I think knowing when to do that, knowing when the game is in the balance."
Baldy's last sentence rings true. Bosa is a smart player so I'm sure he used the down time to reflect on some of those philosophical balances, and I expect we'll see some of that veteran maturity on display this Sunday.
Its great to have Bosa back. But I'd like to see Shanahan use the same pitch count system that he will implement for Dee Ford.
ReplyDeleteWe could beat Detroit without the help of Bosa and Ford. These guys haven't played in nearly a year and did not play in the preseason. Shanahan should be patient and prudent in playing Bosa.
I think he has been thus far, AES. I'd be extremely surprised if they don't have a pitch count for Bosa, but I'm really excited to see him make each snap count!
DeleteWelp, AES, so much for the "pitch" count. Lol: Per Kyle Shanahan, no "pitch count" for Nick Bosa and Dee Ford. They are part of personnel packages which will dictate the number of snaps they will get against Detroit.
ReplyDeleteThat's the terminology you use when you don't want to say pitch count :-P
DeleteRegardless of how they want to say it, both Bosa and Ford will be part of a rotation, and I suspect the "packages" they are in on will mean neither player is asked to play the lion's share of snaps.
Like Ford said, it's pretty much SOP when coming back from a severe injury.
DeleteYea, the curtain rises on Sunday. Bring it on! I'm expecting great things from this team. One thing I have doubts about, though, is Ford. I can't imagine him lasting. If/when he gets hurt again, I hope they put him on IR and just save him for the playoffs, assuming he can still play.
ReplyDeleteYou might be surprised, George. I thought he was finished.
DeleteI'll be at Ford Field if you're anywhere near there and want to meet up.
The thing that surprised me the most with Ford is that he was able to practice in full during camp and string days together. That's a great sign.
DeleteI expect he will be saved for obvious passing downs, and unlikely he plays more than around 30% of snaps.
Agreed, Scooter. Bosa? Probably ends up at 50%.
DeleteRazor, thanks for the invite. Would totally love to, still in California though.
DeleteGotcha, George.
DeleteWith respect to the "pitch count" either Bosa or Ford plays, I'd expect the 9ers lead should be enough that neither will play much in he second half. If not, it'll raise questions about the offense and defense, and we'll hear the 9er fans calling for Lance to replace JG.
ReplyDelete49ers WR Jalen Hurd Heading To IR?
ReplyDeletehttps://www.profootballrumors.com/2021/09/49ers-wr-jalen-hurd-heading-to-ir
Kyle Shanahan told reporters that the third-year WR is a candidate for the injured IR thanks to a lingering knee injury.
Didn't KS and JL both say Hurd making the 53 depended on how his body responded, after playing in the last pre season game against the Raiders?
Yea, it responded well enough for the first few days and then came the problem. Looks like they want to revisit the injury for a few weeks to see wtf is going on.
DeleteHe seems to have patellar tendinitis. That tendon connects the kneecap to the shinbone and its inflammation from small tears. The short-term cure appears to be to rest (not jump or run) until the pain goes away and meanwhile undergoing physiotherapy. 3-week IR is probably the best for him. Clearly, Kyle values his contribution to persist with him. Meanwhile Jennings can fill in for his role as the big slot receiver...
DeleteNick Bosa will love seeing that contract TJ Watt just signed.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to get him on that contract when the time comes.
Delete"It's very easy to sit a guy out, and then when all of you leave, the media leaves, he's out there," Campbell continued. "I've been around where a guy had a neck brace on, and then everybody left, and then he throws it off, and he's out there at practice.
ReplyDelete"So, I'm well aware of those things. We have to prepare like he's playing. We'll have a plan for him, and we'll be ready."
Trey Lance has yet to play a game and Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell is making plans on nullifying him.
I love this addition to the 49ers because it makes the offense less predictable and will keep opposing Dcords guessing throughout the season.
Dan's been having some sleepless nights of late.
DeleteBtw, above article per David Bonilla on 49erswebzone.
ReplyDeletePer ESPN’s Field Yates, the Niners created $5.9 million in cap space by converting $7.8 million of Ward’s 2021 compensation into a bonus. As a result, San Francisco now has $7.3 million in cap space.
ReplyDeleteLions' LT Decker out for the game due to hand injury. Goff should feel very, very nervous.
