The 49ers are scheduled to workout Delanie Walker this Wednesday.
Has to be just a camp body. Done nothing in the NFL. Bottom of the 90 man roster moves atm.
ReplyDeleteAdding Walker would be a bit more interesting. He'd compete to be the #2 TE (and would be expected to win that role). Would be nice to see him come home.
I agree on Walker. Maybe Shanahan could use him on a version of the wham running play that Harbaugh used with good success during his tenure as a 49er.
ReplyDeleteBut, I have to wonder if Walker has anything left in the tank. Hopefully he does.
This is not the wide receiver Jones I had in mind :(
ReplyDeleteTE Delanie Walker to work out for 9ers on Wed.
ReplyDeleteWalker is scheduled to work out for the 49ers on Wednesday, according to an NFL Network report. The 36-year-old tight end (he will be 37 in August) sat out the entire 2020 NFL season and has not played since his final appearance for the Tennessee Titans, Oct. 20, 2019.

Walker was Harbaugh's Swiss army knife. I think Mitchell will become Shanahan's Swiss army knife.
ReplyDeleteRichburg's retirement frees up just over $1M. Every million helps :)
ReplyDeleteSounds like the main reason for adding camp body WRs right now is that 5 of their top guys aren't practicing due to injury - Aiyuk, Samuel, Benjamin, James and Hurd.

49ers are signing the other ex-Titans TE they brought in for a visit - MyCole Pruitt.
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised, and a little disappointed that they decided to sign Pruit instead of Walker.
DeleteWalker seemed like he might have a couple more productive years left in him, having missed basically the last two seasons. He's certainly the more talented of the two TE's. A bit of a head scratcher for me.
Apparently Pruitt is a very good blocking TE, so I guess maybe that's the rub?
DeleteSo is Walker though.
DeleteI'll do an "Examining the fit" article on him, but I think this has a lot to do with similar scheme experience/ fit, and is yet another sign the 49ers are committing to running the ball this year.
MyCole Pruitt highlights, link below. The guy's no stranger to catching the ball.

32 career receptions across 63 career games... he isn't exactly known for his receiving prowess.
DeleteHe's more of a blocking TE. And he's only really had one season where he played significant offensive snaps (2019 - 44% of offensive snaps, other than that he hasn't played more than 25% of offensive snaps in a season).
It is an interesting signing because of the implications it provides - he isn't a Jordan Reed replacement, he's competition for Woerner is a blocking specialist that comes from a zone heavy, run first offense.
Looks like there's one less team interested in Julio Jones trade.....
ReplyDeleteReport: Ravens 'done' with Julio Jones trade talks.
The Ravens have been linked to Julio Jones since the beginning of the wide receiver's trade saga with the Atlanta Falcons, but it appears they're taking themselves out of the running for now.
ESPN's Kimberly Martin provided an update on Get Up Wednesday and included the Ravens and Rams as two teams who are not in active talks with Atlanta to acquire the seven-time Pro-Bowler.
"The Titans are the team that I've most heard people mention that he'll probably end up with," Martin said. "I know for a fact the Ravens and the Rams are done. They're not in the Julio Jones market right now."

The Falcons are reportedly seeking a first-round pick for Jones in any deal, given the fact they almost have to get rid of him to gain much-needed salary cap space, they are NOT in a position to demand a premium asset like that.
I'd be willing to part with a 2nd next year + 4th in 2023. Maybe add a mid-lower tier level starter instead of the 2023 4th at a position the 49ers have depth (like RB).
DeleteHe'd be a great addition, no question, but the 49ers will need to replenish the roster with draft picks so can't give away a tonne of premium picks, and they need to also fit him within the cap not just this year but in 2022 and 2023 as well.
Scooter
DeleteI believe it's a bridge too far, if Atlanta is holding out for a 1st Rd draft pick and refuses to pick up
at least $5 Mil of his $15.3 Salary. Some team may be
willing to make that deal, but I don't see it being the 9ers.
