Is it only me (ok, most the time it is), who believes that the NFL is out of control with all the football analysts, commercials and now a big presentation on the upcoming team schedules?
ReplyDeleteI admit, that I’m the old guy around these parts who still remembers the draft being around 15 rds., and having to wait a couple of days to read who my 49ers drafted in the SF Chronicle Sporting Green section.
And now we have today’s presentation this evening. And dogging, I’ll probably be watching 😎
AES,
DeleteWe have all become football lemmings, the NFL calls and we all run to the TV (I will be watching also)
Old Coach,
DeleteI agree.
We’re caught in the NFL’s web for life (smile).
I'm only 59 so I can't go back as far as you gentlemen, but I certainly can identify with what you're saying.
DeleteFans can't get enough of the NFL. I won't be surprised that in the future some of the preliminary pre-TC practice will be televised.
DeleteOh man Mood, could you imagine the fan overreaction to practices! And we think its bad now 🤣
DeleteYeah, the popularity of the combine should give the NFL ideas of monetizing routine exercises. I can visualize a 49er TV/streaming channel at $3 per month where one sees players warming up, doing regular exercises in the weight room and chatting with reporters at breaks.
DeleteI wonder if they will stay back east between week 1 and 2.
ReplyDeleteThey've done it in the past with good results.
DeleteLook for the Niners to spend that week in Youngstown, Ohio.
DeleteRoad wins go a long way for gaining confidence for the play offs. Of the non-Division road games, only the Titans game will pose significant challenge to the Niners.
ReplyDeleteHopefully the Niners get a good bye week.
ReplyDeleteSmack dab in the middle please.
Delete6th week, eh could of been better.
DeleteHammer is opining that Mostert might be cut before the season starts. Interesting esp. if you believe that the team will only carry 5 RBs, once of which will be Juice.

It's an interesting argument, and one I will probably look at in a little bit of detail similar to the piece I did on Kinlaw at some point. But... while I think his roster spot is no longer guaranteed, I still like his chances of making the roster.
DeleteSomething that wasn't 100% clear in Jack's article - the reason Wilson is very likely to be on the roster is that his $2.05M cap charge is fully guaranteed, so the 49ers would be liable for this even if they release him. It was implied this was the case in Jack's article, but not specifically stated and is worth understanding.
For mine the more likely roster spot battle will be between Mitchell and Gallman. And whoever loses that battle the 49ers will likely want to stash on the PS.
Mostert won't be here next year. Hammer is premature. Gallman will be released. Mitchell is the future replacement for Mostert.
DeleteFour of the last six games on the road, Seahawks, Titans and Rams are three of those road games.
ReplyDeleteAll in all, not a horrible schedule. While the first two games are away, those should be two very winnable games to get the team rolling early. And then two home games against tougher opponents - the home field advantage should hopefully be a factor.
ReplyDeleteGetting a bye week 6 is earlier than the team would have liked, I am sure.
Only two short weeks, and one of those is at the Jaguars. The Thursday game at the Titans could be pretty nasty though.
Three of the last five games are against teams that had a combined 12 wins last season - four each - and 36 losses. Should hopefully make for a fairly easy push into the finals.
And tbh, on paper right now it doesn't look like there is any really extended stretch of difficult games once they get past week 7. And the most difficult stretch looks like the four game stretch between week 3 and week 7 which has three homes games and a bye.
I like this schedule as a whole. I don't like the fairly early bye (again) or the fact that they will once again travel more miles than any other team
ReplyDeleteOn the plus side, 5 prime time games is great, and like you said Scooter, two very winnable road games to kick off the season ... that's certainly a good thing. The Niners don't play a single game VS a team coming out of a bye week, so that's a positive as well. And their schedule is tied for 19th toughest in terms of strength of schedule, so you gotta like that!
So, thumbs up from me.
I expect the Lions to play hard for Campbell, but c'mon; the game plans are gonna be like Shanny vs. Singletary.
ReplyDeleteI just read that the last two times the Niners opened up the season against the Lions, 1981, 1984.
DeleteBanks sign his rookie deal, the first Niner too do so.
ReplyDeleteLooking at it I see maybe 4 losses. 13-4 NFC West winner
