**UPDATE**
K'Waun Williams signed by the 49ers:
Niners re-sign K'Waun to a one-year deal. That's 4 out 4 on my list of high-priority re-signs for the Niners (the Williams, Juice and Verrett). Holes are adequately plugged and Niners are ready to go all-BPA mode in the draft.
ReplyDeleteVery nice!!
DeleteWhose birthday is it? Great signing...
ReplyDeleteBig 59 today, Dave.
DeleteHappy Birthday to ya! I just had one on the 19th - 69.
DeleteThanks!
DeleteHey, happy birthday Raz. And belated happy birthday UC.
DeleteRazor, now that most of the dust has settled on the FA front, are you going to do any revisions on your 49er 7rd draft?
Hey, AES thanks! Yes, I will be dropping my final mock draft here in a couple weeks.
DeleteHappy birthdays razor and under!
DeleteNice list razor. I see you agree with me that there are no elite edge guys this year.
Thanks, Scooter. Yea, each one comes with their own set of question marks.
DeleteHappy bday Razor- you and UC are a decade ahead of me as I just turned 50...... and am feeling it- I tell the kids at the golf course you can laugh off turning 40, but 50 will kick you in the balls if you try to do that- I now walk 9 holes and am realizing after being out of shape for 15 years that I need to saddle up.
DeleteVERY happy about K'waun signing.... but w all of these 1-yr deals, they will have to hit on the draft for future depth.
Thanks, Dlptown.
DeleteTouchdown Tommy, position...Offensive Weapon
ReplyDeleteAnyone still thinking qb early? All these 1 year deals means the 49ers believe the Super Bowl window is still open. I would be surprised if they used either of their first two picks on the position. Gonna be DE and WR or CB.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking QB 1st round. This is the perfect time to get a QB to sit behind Jimmy and next year cut or Trade Jimmy and you have the QBOTF on a rookie contract for 3 more years.
DeleteThis way, we can also balance the cap and extend these 1 year deals to multi-year contracts.
Mugeek9er, I couldn't agree more. It's just that it doesn't look like that's their plan as of right now.
DeleteI am. Maybe not round 1, but before day 3.
DeleteGonna be some good players in the 2nd round. CB, Wr, Edge. 3rd round, day 2?
DeleteAs much as it galls me, I can see the team looking at Mills on day 2. Maybe even Trask. But the guy I would be hoping for on day 2 is Mond.
DeleteYea, Trask, Mills, Mond and Newman are probably the 4 you'd be looking at.
DeleteNot really sold on any of these QBs with the exception of Trask.
DeleteMills has to learn when not to throw into double coverages.
Mond looks a little out of sorts in the pocket at times.
Newman could be the surprise gem among them, but I would have liked to see him play last season.
That said, either of these guy’s might become a steal on day two.
Yes, SF would probably need to reach to get their guy... but reaching in the 3rd is not nearly as bad as reaching in the first. Having said that if SF drafts a qb at all this fan base will likely look at them as the heir apparent rather than as a project they hope will turn out.
DeleteIMO if you spend a first or even early 2nd he is the heir apparent. Anything after that is not a big investment nor are they someone the coach truly believes will be a starter for them going forward... they are instead someone the coach hopes "might" develop into a starter someday.
* So the 9ers got what they wanted from K'Waun Williams, a one year deal at less than his $4Mil P/Y asking price.
ReplyDelete* IMO, the 9ers are now have their starters signed and in a position of taking the BPA in the 2021 draft.
* With 9 draft picks, the 9ers should be in position to draft their future starting QB (their only real need), and a 2021 SB run.
* What I'd like the 9ers to draft: QB, EDGE, CB, TE, WR, CB, RB, OT, IOL,
Yep, they've put themselves in a great position leading into the draft. Just give me one more CB and maybe a vet backup QB and good to go with BPA.
DeleteHappy birthday, Raz! Here's a link you can use to calculate your astrological birth chart. Once you do that, it will generate an interpretation, not about what will happen today, as you used to find in a newspaper, but about the kind of person you are. One can laugh about it if they want, but at the least it will help you think about yourself.

Thanks, George!
DeleteWelcome. And thanks for your article. Keep on truckin'. Looks like it's Minshew, huh?
DeleteESPN's, Fowler thinks the 49ers are up to something at qb. Thinks they'll end up trading for, Minshew.
ReplyDeleteJimmy
Rosen
Minshew?
Rosen and Minshew could make for a good QB2 competition.
DeleteCould this be because CJ has signed with the Jaguars? Or is this a smoke screen.
DeleteIntriguing month ahead....draft should be compelling as well.
"Minshew has 20 games of starting experience in his two NFL seasons, has thrown for 5,530 yards with 37 touchdowns with 11 interceptions during that span, and is scheduled to earn $850,000 in case salary this season."
Delete-Bonilla
I'd be good with getting Minshew. He can be the vet backup QB. Still need to get your QBOTF.
DeleteMinshew would be above Rosen.
DeleteI was watching video of him on the web. He can be effective, plus Kyle's playbook and Scangarello might raise his game a notch. For the life of me, though, I can't understand the Jags signing Beathard. Another one of those Baalke pull-one-out-of-the-hat specials, I guess. More like pull-one-out-of-the-arse, if I may be crude.
ReplyDeleteof Minshew
DeleteMinshew is basically a different and hopefully better version of Mullens. They have a lot of the same strengths and weaknesses.
DeleteFor the Jags, not sure what they are thinking. Minshew excelled in a version of the spread offense in college under Mike Leach. Urban Meyer is famous for his spread offense. The only thing I can think of is that Mike Leach's offense doesn't use the QB as a running option, and Minshew isn't athletic enough to run what Meyer wants.
DeleteCJ probably is a better athlete, but he has played in a more traditional pro style offense both in college and the NFL. I don't really see the fit. But maybe they think his combo of athleticism, toughness and arm strength fit what they want at QB. He is a closer match to Lawrence than Minshew.
Minshew's mobility is a hidden asset...... I would be happy with him to the point of not considering QB at 12 and going WR/Edge there...someone who will make an immediate impact. If Jones is there, sure, but they could also slide down to late teens and add a 2nd round pick, potentially.
ReplyDeleteGreat off-season.. only miss was not getting Trubisky on the cheap (Minshew at under a million is better) and not keeping Hyder (let Seattle have him as our OL know his play).
Seattle loves our leftovers.
Deletediptown
DeleteWhy would you draft a WR at #12, when your WR1 and WR2
are Aiyuk and Deebo? While I agree the 9er will draft
a WR, it will be day 2, maybe day 3? (Rd 3earliest)
diptown
DeleteCould be a twofer like Demetric Felton, RB/WR, UCLA
* https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dYB0MVf1_-g
You think Shanahan could think up some ways to use him?
What if Pitt is there at 12? The basis for WR would be that when Deebo wasn't available, there was a noticeable drop-off. James had the one great game, but Taylor has sucked, we don't really know what Benjamin can do.. Hurd has been hurt. If there is a big, dynamic receiver, someone that could go over the top, then perhaps they consider it.
Delete- Personally, I think RB's can be found later and would prefer to build the lines in the early rounds...... I do believe chasing shutdown press/man Corners should be more emphasized by the 49ers. Look at what dynamic Sanders and Revis provided... - while I know that they are supreme talents, the ability to have someone free up a Safety to blitz more often would be tremendous.
Right now, if I had to rank the top 5 players I think have a chance at being available at #12 in terms of their ability to immediately improve the 49ers, I think I would go Horn, Pitts, Waddle, Slater, Surtain.
ReplyDeleteHorn seems to have the right attitude to go with his ability to step in day 1 and be very good. And while the team has guys ready to start, Moseley is solid, not great while Verrett needs a "handle with care" stamp.
Pitts... he's just a mismatch weapon as soon as he hits the NFL. And Waddle would instantly open up the offense by making teams fear the deep ball.
Slater can fit in anywhere along the OL. He's probably be inserted at RG year 1 and really help solidify the line, then take over from McGlinchey down the track if the team opts not to pay him.
Surtain is another CB that looks ready to play in the NFL, though I don't think he's a true lockdown CB.
If it wasn't for injury concerns I would rank Phillips in the top 5 as a guy that can come in and immediately upgrade the pass rush while also being capable as a run defender.
Yea, a medical red flag is the worst thing for a draft prospect. That's a pretty good 5 but really 4 because there's no way in hell, Pitts is on the board at 12. I'd be surprised if, Waddle is either. Horn/Slater/Surtain could be.
DeleteYeah, I don't necessarily think its a good chance, just some chance! Guys like Sewell, Chase and Smith I just assume are no chance at all. Tbh, Pitts probably should be in the same category. Waddle... not sure. And who knows, maybe I am wrong and Smith's weight scares people off and he is available at 12 - if so, he would be in my top 5 too.
DeleteScooter
DeleteWhile we agree on most players, I would add CB CALEB FARLEY, VIRGINIA TECH. He has what the 9ers are looking for from size, to speed, to length and ball skills, he has already displayed it all. His tape shows a player who could make up any cushion down the field. Unsurprisingly, he’s reported to run in the 4.3s, which shows on tape repeatedly.
The ONLY reason I wouldn't have him on the list is he's having back surgery. Until I know more about his
surgery, I wouldn't draft him before 4th round, maybe even later.
* Northwestern OG Rashawn Slater: I Can't drafting a guard that high! Just my own prejudice, but an OT with 33" arms? NOPE, I don't care how good he is...
Yea, I know, I'm crazy...but in my mind, that says "TILT..DEFAULT...ERROR!"
Oregon OT Penei Sewell...Now that puts a smile on my face.
I didn't include Farley as I don't think he is an immediate upgrade. Very high upside, but he has some developing to do.
DeleteSlater you only draft if you see him eventually succeeding McGlinchey or Mack. 33" arms is ok for an OT. Shorter arms didn't hinder Joe Thomas.
Farley just had back surgery if I'm not mistaken. I wouldn't touch him.
DeleteYeah, with you there razor. I like the talent, but that back injury scares me. And why wait until now to get the surgery? Pretty sure he first hurt it in 2019 and he didn't play last season.
DeleteHe's gonna slide down the draft board, watch.
DeleteOff topic: Isaiah Wilson was miscast as a football player. Should have been one of the Dirty Dozen.
ReplyDeletehttps://www.profootballrumors.com/2021/03/latest-on-fa-ol-isaiah-wilson
George
ReplyDeleteIsaiah Wilson is suffering from whats commonly referred to as a severe case of "Anal-Cranial inversion syndrome."
