I put this hypothetical question to, Matt Barrows March 5th Mailbag:
Rookie defensive coordinator + stud pass rusher coming off major injury = DE at pick No. 12? Am I right? — Gregg C.
Matt Barrows, "Someone give Gregg a gold star sticker".
Do we have the right formula?
Gold star for razor!
ReplyDeleteI will be posting my thoughts on the edge position tonight (my time), so won't give my thoughts away here, but yeah, the combo of rookie DC and injured star DE definitely points toward resources being put into the DL.
It would not surprise me at all if the first pick is used on the defensive side of the ball. I am thinking corner myself but DE, sure why not.
ReplyDeleteBosa might be getting some advice from his Dad whose career was altered/ended by a knee injury.
ReplyDeleteBut that’s neither here nor there. Nick will not start in September and to this point, I haven’t heard any official time table as to his return.
That said, I believe the 49ers can find a DE later in the draft. This is where regional scouts earn their money. They should already have a pool of potential players that could help the Edge position in 2021.
If they go with a speed rusher like Ojulari, they can safely trade down several spots, IMO.
