NFL, NFLPA Agree To Minimum Salary Cap by Razor

The league minimum will be $180 million. I think the final number for the league year will be closer to $185 million. This bodes well for the 49ers who would like to bring back, Williams and Juice. If they can add, Verrett and sign, Mack; they can then hit the F/A bargain bin from the long list of pass rushers this year to strengthen their depth. The hardest job in the last 2 minutes of the game is rushing the passer.

  1. Razor, you're doing a great job. Really. Thanks for everything you're doing.

I'd like to email you about something. Is there one for the webmaster?

At least they are in a LOT better place than the rest of the west.

    1. The Rams really are fortunate to have been bailed out by the Lions. They're also under enormous pressure to deliver the goods this year.

  4. Yeah, $185M would be a real boon.

I have a suspicion that Hyder won't get the market 49er fans fear he will, and will be able to be brought back on the cheap. It is actually quite a deep FA edge market. And I imagine he would prefer to stay with Kocurek over Saleh, given history. And I expect the 49ers to look at adding 1 or 2 other edge in FA as well. A DT or 2 as well.

Basically, I think they will look to have the DL mostly in place before the draft, so they can focus on other positions. If a DL they really like falls to them they can still take them, but I don't think they will want to feel forced to take one high with so many other needs.

    1. Yea, Hyder rebuilt his stock to an all time high just to hit f/a when the market is flooded. Tough break for him, and possibly a good one for us.

  5. Wentz traded to Colts.
This is another player off the conversation (though his name was rarely mentioned) board.
The next QB that changes address is likely Darnold.

Re the cap, three players I'd like to see the 49ers re-sign are in this order:
    Trent Williams
    Kyle Juszczek
    And Jason Verrett.
These players are not replaceable imo.

    1. Eagles gonna take a quarterback? Maybe they saw something in Hurts but I sure didn't.

    2. Yeah, I don't think many 49er fans were interested in Wentz. Expensive, injury prone and has been worse than JG the past two years. At his best he is probably an upgrade, but been a while since we've seen his best.

Darnold... I can see the attraction. But not as an immediate replacement for JG - to be the backup with potential as the future starter. I suspect some team will want him as their starter though. I think he won't be moved until during/ after the draft, to a team that misses out on one.

  6. Not as high as I had hoped but anything above 175 is gravy. M

    1. True, and hopefully the following year it's back to where it needs to be after these tv deals.

  7. A friend of mine, works in media, said he found a proposal on the Internet where JimmyG and AA go to the Jets for Darnold, #2 and a 3rd (presumably 2022).......... I said it is a 20-something keyboard wizard w/out merit........ and 49ers would have to add the #12 I would assume as well if the #2 was involved.

That said, I would do it........ and would move down from 2 for someone wanting Wilson...... oh, the offseason.

    1. On side note, this is nice to have...... free of the riff-raf.

Hope everyone is well out there, weather-wise/safety..........

Finally, what are people doing to occupy their time w Covid? - I work for myself doing some development on properties we own, and golf (play 9 almost daily), otherwise, I would torture my family w learning to play the drums.

  8. Spent a bit of time looking at edge guys today. The 2020 Miami guys (Phillips and Roche) really impressed me - both are good technicians with very good explosiveness.

I think Phillips will be my #1 edge this year - excellent pass rush skills and also good against the run. He and Bosa paired together would just be so much fun to watch... if they can both stay healthy. Phillips' injury history is a huge concern.

Roche looks like a really good value 3rd-4th rounder. Really explodes off the ball and also has decent hand technique. He's a bit on the small side, but he gives good effort and is surprisingly good against the run too despite being small.

Ojulari was also fun to watch. Very explosive. But a little too reliant on his speed to make me feel comfortable using a top 15 pick on him.

After watching a few of these guys I am unsure why Rousseau is rated so highly by most draftniks. He has the physique and he had great sack #s in 2019... but man, a lot of those were gimmes, his athleticism isn't as good as his physique, and his technique is MIA.

Haven't spent time on the bigger tweener DE/DTs yet, so not sure what I think of those guys atm.

    1. who do you thinks has the best bend? Very important, IMO, for speed rushers to get around the long arms of NFL tackles.

    2. None of them have what I would consider elite bend, but Phillips and Ojulari are the best in this regard imo.

    3. Another guy I really enjoyed watching was Patrick Jones II. All out effort, fires off the snap, has pretty good athleticism and doesn't like to stay blocked. I think he would fit Kocurek's philosophy well.

    4. My draft crush is Azeez. His get off alone would put so much pressure on tackles to get back that it should open up lanes for Armstead as an interior rusher (which is what he is, not a DE). Then if Bosa can work with him on his hands or give him a counter he could be a real force.

    5. Yeah, Ojulari looks good, but I always have some concerns with guys that are so reliant on their speed. I see him as a late 1st option.

  9. About what I expected honestly.

  10. I know its way out there time wise but the 2022 off season is going to be absolutely crazy. As long as fans can go to games next season along with a new TV contract the cap will expand through the roof. Teams are going to have massive cap room going into 2022 free agency. Its going to be the most active off season in NFL history.
