4 Years

 February 26 Razor

According to offensive coaches, you cannot properly evaluate a quarterback until he's been in the same system 4 years. 2 years to master his offense, and 2 more to master the offensive contextual response to what the defenses are doing. Jimmy is around 1,000 pass attempts into his career. This would seem to indicate that we can expect to see improvement in the execution of the offense in 2021 by the distributor in chief, Jimmy Garoppolo. Which leads us to our question of the day. Will it be enough to win the division?

  1. If they improve the O line, have at least 40 sacks and here is the big one, stay healthy, they will win the div. imho

  2. Either Niners or Seahawks will win the division -- unless Rams have a historically spectacular draft. This is Jimmy G's odd numbered year and thus guaranteed for success :-|

Interesting that 3 of the 4 teams in the Division now run the Shanahan offense.

Going thru Brugler's TE draft review, it seems that there are some promising third-day prospects like Virginia's Poljan, Georgia's McKitty and Michigan's Mason.

  3. "If you think the 49ers will have to do some creative maneuvering to stay under the salary cap — whatever the limit ends up being — the rest of the NFC West is in worse situations. San Francisco's over $13 million in projected cap space leads the division, per OverTheCap.com. The Arizona Cardinals look to have under $12 million, the Seattle Seahawks just over $4 million, and the Los Angeles Rams — well, they need to figure out how to dig themselves out of a horrible financial situation."

  4. I liked Lynch' term of "rebooting" the team this coming season.
It reminds me of restarting something that is already there.

Except for a number of players who may find greener (as in money) pastures elsewhere, there is still a very good core of players who will be back.

Getting players like JG, Kittle, Mostert, Deebo and at some point Bosa back healthy certainly qualifies as a reboot.

A good draft and a couple of value FA signings could get the team to 10-12 wins and a post season run.

There's also the dynamic that Lynch can make a deal on draft day as has been his MO.
But as Old Coach said; the key is to stay healthy. If not, the reboot can become a rebuild.

    1. AES, as soon as I heard, Lynch say "reboot", it immediately took me back to a simpler time, when we weren't just stuck in the mud, but sinking fast. Trent Baalke, "This isn't a rebuild situation. This is a reload situation"

  5. Bad boy Baalke left a bad taste in 49ers nation. His complete miss on one draft put the team in a burning trash dumpster.
Lynch and Shanahan have the formula to keep the team fresh and steady for years to come.
Paraag will definitely need to earn his money this off season to field a playoff worthy team.
    I believe he will.

  6. There is an unrestricted free agent out there who the Niners should take a look at. Name--CJ Bethard.
    From ESPN stats:
    Attempts--Mullens 326, Garoppolo 140, Bethard 104; TDs-- Mullens 12, Garoppolo 7, Bethard 6 Interceptions--Mullens 12, Garoppolo 5, Bethard 0 Quarterback Rating Mullens 84.1, Garoppolo 92.4, Bethard 105.7
Bethard started two games, and cleaned up Mullens' messes in 4 others. The Niners beat Arizona handily, and came close to beating Seattle. Both teams were in the playoff hunt. After the Arizona game, Coach Shanahan said Bethard's play was "perfect." Bethard has worked with the Shanahan playbook for four years, and his play at the end of the season showed it. Why look around for another quarterback? We've already got one. Why let him get away now that he has shown what he can do with Shanahan's offense? He may want to go elsewhere after the way he's been treated here, but we should at least try. (He should never have been playing behind Mullens.)
