I Like Mike

The Mike Evans effect: The 49ers passing offense has already generated more EPA against man coverage than in all of 2025 (also than in all of 2024). I still find myself pinching my arm to make sure I'm not dreaming because it's hard to believe we actually got him!

  1. Highest-graded 49ers on offense against the Seahawks:

    • Mike Evans: 92.0
    • Trent Williams: 79.9
    • Colton McKivitz: 77.3
    • Brock Purdy: 76.8
    • Jake Brendel: 73.3👀

    1. Rewatching some of the game I came away thinking Brock really saved Kyle in this game. SF was really moving Seattles defensive front when they went into that 2 high shell. It was almost like an automatic 5 yards (they averaged 4.8 yards per carry *including kneeldowns)... but when they tried to throw the ball Brock was under a lot of durress and had very few open recievers given that Seattle was basically rushing 4 with 7 in coverage. His escapabability really saved SF from disaster multiple times.

    2. Brock's pocket manipulation is elite!

    3. It is... and so slept on by National Media.

  2. Despite the revolving the wr's Brock Purdy:
    #1 in passing EPA
    #1 in Passing touchdowns T-4th fewest INT's(min 100 att)
    #1 in QB rating(min 100 att)
    #1 in fewest sacks
    #2 in YPA(min 100 att)
    T-3rd in CPOE(min 100 att)

  3. Brock Purdy's 119.3 passer rating leads all QBs who have at least 100 pass attempts this season and his 84.7 QBR leads everybody -- and he's played 3 of the top-6 rated pass defenses vs. QBs in the league (LAR, DEN, SEA).

  4. Dre Greenlaw has been suspended without pay for one game for an act of unsportsmanlike conduct during yesterday’s game against the Seahawks, per Schefter.

  5. Not only does Dre's actions hurt the 49ers next week, but it also gives the Seahawks a "payback" incentive when they play the 49ers down the road. Teams don't forget what Greenlaw did yesterday. Greenlaw needs to aim his emotions solely on the field of play. He let his emotional get the best of him against the Eagles years ago. He felt the need to smack-talk at Sean Payton last week. Dre is a ferocious force on the field. Hopefully, Fred helps him keep there.

    1. Where I come from the instigator is just as guilty as the perpetrator and anyone that gets in my face like that shouldn't be surprised when I strike!

  6. What a private person does in a similar scenario away from the game is their business. When a player does something to hurt the team it's a much different situation. Gifford is not anywhere close to Dre. We'll have to see what he can do against Washington.

    2. Warner the Predator plays as fiercely if not more than Greenlaw. Yet, he plays with great discipline and control. If it had Fred getting suspended for a game, I suspect that this topic would have a different perspective.

    3. Yep, Warner is the good cop and Greenlaw is the bad cop!👮

    4. That's great. Just don't get suspended.

  7. Doggonit! If there's any good news on this, it's that the 49ers play Washington, Atlanta then they hit their bye. Except for an early mistake by Cooks, I thought he played well after a short week of practice. D'marcus Robinson could be ready after the bye. With Bosa returning soon, the 49ers will be more scarier heading towards the second half of the season.

  8. You always need a bad cop with great character and that's Dre Greenlaw!

    1. Don't get me wrong. I like Dre. But, I happen to like him a lot more when he stays on the field. I hope Gifford can hold the line until Greenlaw returns.

  9. The acquisition of Evans and Morris is similar to Barkley and Fangio as far as I'm concerned.

  10. I agree.
Razor, I remember you saying a few weeks ago that Harbaugh could be out as the Chargers HC sooner than later. Your prophecy is starting to look like it could come true. Makes me wonder what the heck is going on with them.

  11. Let there be no mistake, I'm no fan of Goodell and the NFL. If I wasn't a diehard Niners fan they wouldn't get a dime of my money. Case in point: Puka can take a bite of human flesh out of a woman and there's no suspension, but let a man surrounded by the enemy with one confronting him in his face and let him defend himself and down comes the hammer for a one game suspension immediately.🐂💩

    1. The problem isn't with Greenlaws suspension, he deserved it. The problem is with Nacua not being suspended at all. If the story about him is true he should have received at least a 5 game suspension. Demarcus Robinson got a 3 game suspension for a non accident/injury DUI.

    2. Why isn't Jones, who got in Greenlaw's face punished? When I grew up the instigator was just as guilty as the perpetrator!

    3. Yeah, I don't agree with that take. If they pulled up everyone that was 'instigating' like Jones did, we'd have entire teams getting suspended by the NFL. The onus is on Greenlaw to not take the bait.

    4. I agree with you Scooter. Oldest trick in the book, a coach has a player they put in the game and told to gets in the face of an opposing star player. Try to get the opposing player to react to an insult, or physical challenge, and get them kicked out of the game. How many times does the player that instigates, not get caught, but the player reacting to it does and is penalized?

    5. I don't recall any our players getting in the face of players unless provoked. It was always a player mad over getting blocked into oblivion.

I never said they did. I think you misunderstood what I posted.

    7. Nope, just talking out loud. Getting in another man's face is a form of intimidation, not to mention being surrounded by like-minded individuals. I don't blame Greenlaw for how he reacted but agree he will need to smarten up moving forward.

    8. Lol, razor, Stout and Greenlaw spend all game in people's faces.

    9. It's great. Those guys set the tone. Get chippy with the opposition all game, get in their heads. Rest of the team feed off it.

  12. Mike Evans on the 49ers Final TD Drive:

    • 1st & 20: 15-yd reception
    • 2nd & 5: 9-yd reception
    • 3rd & 10: 23-yd reception
    • 2nd & 21: 28-yd reception
    • 2pt conversion

Evans finished with 7 receptions, 113 yds, 1 TD and 1 2pt conversion, almost exactly what he did the last time he played there!🤩

  13. Larry Krueger reported today that Nick Martin might be available for Mon. nights game. He is a far better replacement for Greenlaw than Gifford. Wallow is far better than Gifford but I think he has a pulled hammy also. They need a WR as early as this week. If the Vikings are willing to part with JJ for a 7th or even a 5th in 28 I would make that trade in a NY minute

    1. I wouldn't trade for JJ when they'll likely end up releasing him. Cooks is the next man up until Robinson returns. I'd look at any future contribution by Kirk as a bonus and not an eventuality.

  14. The 49ers put up the highest designed rushing success rate of any team in a game against a Mike Macdonald defense, per SumerSports with a 65% designed rushing success rate that was a 99th percentile performance.👀
