Another one bites the dust
ReplyDeleteWell, what's new...
ReplyDeleteTough injury to come back from compounded by the fact he needs reps to get better. Same injury as Drake Jackson, whose career never got off the ground afterwards. Now he has to fly 15 hours home to have surgery. Good thing they kept Thompson Jr.
ReplyDeleteYeah, this can be a devastating injury. Very few guys come back well from it. And even harder when you've not developed into a good NFL player before the injury. Hate to suggest it so early in a guys career, but the 49ers shouldn't be counting on Collins moving forward.
Deleteand another player who was an iron man in college goes down with a soft tissue injury. Just bad luck? Thank God no one claimed S. Valdez. Evan Anderson get ready
ReplyDeleteAnderson is another one that needs reps to have a chance at reaching his potential.
DeleteWhat a shame.
DeleteAwful, and very unfortunate for Collins. Thompson won't play Thursday night. Halton my take over and keep the position by default.
ReplyDeleteNext reception for a TD by McCaffery gives him the all-time mark of receiving TDs by a running back (37). The next two TD's will give him 100 for his career as he stands at 98.
ReplyDeletePretty rough start to the season for the 49ers with them losing a starter on both sides of the ball. That said, I don't foresee the loss of Pearsall and Collins to injury affecting them on either side of the ball.
ReplyDeleteRazor/ Scooter,
ReplyDeleteHas Shanahan officially announced who will start in place of Collins tomorrow night?
He did not. He answered a question about Thompson Jr. wrt whether or not he'll be available and Shanahan said it depends on this upcoming practice. By rule he doesn't have to provide that information until tomorrow.
DeleteI'd be very surprised if West didn't get a lot of snaps next to Osa this year.
DeleteThe depth chart listed Gracen Halton as the backup behind Collins, so it's possible he will start next to Osa. However, it wouldn't surprise me if the 49ers choose to start West.
DeleteDustin Perry is the substation.
ReplyDeleteThis team has has had 1 season where they did not finish in the top 10 in injuries.
100% agree. At least we can put the substation theory to rest after the Collins injury.
DeleteDude is the one constant and keeps getting promoted while all others around him are either fired or leave.
Rashawn Slater made it back to the Chargers starting OL from his patellar tendon tear, but he said it was a 300-day grind to get back out to the practice field. Does Collins have that kind of work ethic?
ReplyDeleteSome players are just more prone to injuries than others. There's no proof (that I know of) if genetics has anything to do with injuries, but in the case of Nick Bosa as one example, knee injuries seem to run in the family. Obviously, there could be a number of reasons for football practice related injuries. But I'm not ready to blame Perry just yet.
ReplyDeleteCrazy part is both Collins and Pearsall didn't have any injuries in college.
DeleteThere's a huge gap in talent, training, and hitting between college and the NFL.
DeleteCollins' role as the 1t on 1st and 2nd downs likely means Valdez might get called up over Givens. I saw Halton as primarily filling the role Givens had. Maybe he rotates more with Collins out.
ReplyDelete'27 is looking like a stacked DL class (4 in my top 15) but Will Echoles is my DT1 right now. 6'3/315 with excellent production in his 1st year as a starter. He's got 49ers written all over him.
Yeah. The 49ers DL is still not that stable at the moment. Maybe it will solidify as the season progresses. West will get a chance to establish himself and Halton along with Thompson could be good contributors going forward. Their growth will now have to be fast-tracked.
ReplyDeleteA Patriot win and a Niner win would be a real nice start to the season.
ReplyDeleteLooks like Thompson Jr. had limited participation at yesterday's practice and is on track to play.
ReplyDeleteDrew Lock about to come in the game for Darnold who's out with an hip injury.
ReplyDeleteWe'll see if Darnold avoided a posterior wall acetabular fracture when his MRI comes back. I think Frank Gore had a similar injury.
DeleteAs much as the media has been slobbering over the Rams, Stafford's spine is made of popsicle sticks and hot glue, plus he's almost 40 years old. If he goes down like Darnold, their season is a wrap.
ReplyDeleteThe question is can SF stop the run... And if they can, can they get any pressure.
ReplyDeletePatriots should be putting this game away. Instead, they're trying to give it to the Seahawks.
