Camp Report

Nick Wagoner gives a great breakdown on De'Zhaun Stribling’s day at practice and where he sees him lining up:

“Rookie De'Zhaun Stribling was already making a positive first impression and that continued on Wednesday. He’s fast but has a smooth speed that seems to allow him to accelerate and decelerate with little issue. He’s also big enough and unafraid to go over the middle. Had him down for five more catches Wednesday, including a nice job climbing the ladder on a high pass over the middle from Adrian Martinez. It’s hard to say how things will shake out in terms of alignment but Stribling is working all three spots right now. My early guess: If Pearsall misses time, they’d like to go with Kirk or Demarcus Robinson at 'Z' and let Stribling handle the 'Y.'”

Niners are expected to have their first practice in full pads on Friday according to
Wagoner.

  1. I can't remember who it was that compared the way he runs to Jerry Rice, but I do honestly see the similarity. Not saying that level of skill, but the way he moves.

    1. If Stribling is able to have half the career of Jerry Rice that'd be a homerun pick!

  2. Pearsall's 2025 knee injury didn't make it through the first week of TC. Can resting the knee completely heal it? If Ricky is out for a significant amount of time, why not just have surgery to ensure that the knee will be ready for next season. The kid has sadly had bad luck since his rookie season. Surgery may be a better alternative.at this point.

    1. Dr. Pandya, Re: PCL injuries and the Rickey Pearsall situation. In general, the vast majority of PCL injuries are managed non-operatively; especially if they are isolated. If patients become symptomatic (swelling, pain, or instability), then surgery can be performed. Sometimes the symptoms won’t creep up until players really start doing intensive activities. The reason to try and delay PCL surgery is that reconstruction has a long recovery process (9-12 months) and results are mixed; especially at an agility position like WR.

  3. Jeff Mueller, PT, DPT:

PCL injury leads to joint laxity (unstable joint), leading to shear forces across the joint during impact/high load activity (cutting, running, etc) that can cause swelling & irritation.

  4. Pearsall is known for his quick and acute cuts off the line of scrimmage. Whether he has surgery or not, his injury could be a lingering issue going forward. If his off season rest did not clearly work, maybe the next step is surgery. He would have plenty of time for his knee to heal and and come in fresh for next year's training camp. Of course this will be determined by the 49ers medical staff likely in the next week or two.

  5. De'Zhaun Stribling is poised to be an outstanding receiver, with all the tools for greatness and a quarterback who can deliver him the ball. I was thrilled at the thought of Evans, Pearsall, and Stribling sharing the field. Add CMC and Kittle into the equation, and this team’s aerial attack could be explosive. Since Pearsall has trouble staying on the field, Kirk will need to step up.

  6. The Athletic’s Matt Barrows says the 9ers intend to sign TE Josiah Deguara. He was drafted in the third round of the 2020 draft by the Green Bay Packers.
Deguara is listed at 6’2”, 238 pounds, is built more like a wide receiver. As far as where he ran routes in Arizona last season, the Cardinals had him run 25 routes from the TE alignment, 15 from the slot, and 14 out wide as a receiver.

  7. Deguara' measurables are similar to Juice's. Juice is 35 yrs old. Could the 49ers be interested in switching JD' position to RB as an eventual replacement? Juszcek once was a TE himself back in college.
