Trent Williams remains one of the best left tackles in football, ranking fifth among tackles in run-block win rate in 2025 and 20th in pass-block win rate. Across the board, Pro Football Focus attributed just 16 sacks as the fault of the 49ers' offensive line last season.

DeleteAnother day and another tirade from Aiyuk. He adds more proof everyday that he is mentally ill. Bat sh-t crazy comes to mind. I’ve never been convinced he actually wanted to play anymore and I’m becoming more convinced that no one would sign him anyway.
ReplyDeleteBased on his behavior, I would not discount the possibility that Aiyuk is suffering from CTE.
Delete* Short-Term Symptoms: In the early phases of CTE, a person is often asymptomatic, but initial signs primarily impact mood, behavior, and concentration.
With two years left on Aiyuk's contract, can the 49ers sit him for the season? Aiyuk is determined on playing for the Commander's, but what leverage does he have to make that happen?

* Step-by-Step Path to Release, File for Reinstatement: Aiyuk must first formally petition NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell by submitting reinstatement paperwork.Show Up to the Facility: Once reinstated, Aiyuk is required to show up to the team facility in Santa Clara (e.g., during mandatory minicamps or the opening of training camp) and express his readiness to work.The 49ers' Decision: Once he reports, San Francisco will be forced to make a definitive move. If they let him practice or participate in the weight room, they risk an injury that would guarantee his multi-million dollar salary. Consequently, the team would cut or release him.

Does Aiyuk need to petition for reinstatement while still under contract with the 49ers?
I'm not sure that Aiyuk will show up to TC at this point, given his ongoing drama. Even if he shows up to TC, I doubt that the 49ers allow him to work out with the team risking injury, imho.
This is truly a strange situation with no clear answers right now.

ReplyDeleteNot being a lawyer, this is my understanding of what Aiyuk must do:
* Because the 49ers placed Brandon Aiyuk on the Reserve/Left Squad list, he cannot simply demand a release. Under the NFL's Collective Bargaining Agreement, he must formally petition NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell for reinstatement and be cleared by the league before his contract status can change or he can be released to another team.
* If Aiyuk just shows up at the 9ers facilities, he'll likely be told he's not
welcome! That he has to fill out the paperwork (to Goodell) to get
reinstated to the NFL! After filling out the paperwork, and assuming Goodell reinstates him, then if he shows up at the 9ers and says he's
ready to play, that would force the 9ers to cut him, rather than run the
risk of him getting injured. (the 9ers then being required to pay him).
Brandon Aiyuk’s only meaningful line today: “I will never step foot in that building.”
ReplyDeleteRazor At this point in time, considering everything that's been said and done by Aiyuk, the 9ers and the NFL, I have reservations that Aiyuk will ever play another down in the NFL.
Delete1) Any team that signs him, does so knowing he's a mental time bomb that can disrupt and divide their locker room at any time.
2) I'd be shocked if any team foolish enough to sign him, would offer anything other than a veteran minimum salary as a prove it deal. Not just because of his mental state of mind, but its ,been >20 months (10/20/2024) since the last game he played and the injuries (torn ACL, torn MCL, and a torn meniscus to his right knee) raise the question if he'll still be the same player he was before the injuries.
If he doesn’t step foot in the building, he stays on the reserve/left squad list, his cap charges toll and potentially could come off the books entirely. That would be Christmas in July for San Francisco!🎅

DeleteDon't know if you've had the time to looked at the 2027 NFL draft prospects, but it's a goldmine for talented players at positions the 9ers will need to replace in the next couple of years.
