Under Pressure

Just 17 Sundays until the 49ers kick off the 2026 season.

  1. Nice 3rd place position by the 49ers. But, it's these types of stats that are deceiving, imho. The Seahawks came in at #13, and won the SB. So many things have to go right in order for a team to reach the top. What didn't go right last year for the 49ers was the rash of injuries to key players. Winning 12 games last year was amazing and should have been cause for Shanahan to receive COY honors. But still, a nice honor for the OL.

    1. Another year of continuity upfront bodes well for the offense.

  2. The question TBD for the 2026 season is, who will be the 49er left OG and can he help improve the 49ers O-line VS Rams and Seattle?

Seattle (Week 18, 2025 ) * Run Block: The offensive line struggled to establish a consistent run game, contributing to a lackluster effort where CMC was limited to only 23 yards rushing. * Pass Block: The line struggled to keep BP comfortable, as he was forced into a quick, inefficient performance, including a tipped pass interception that helped seal the game.

Performance vs. L A Rams (Nov 2025) * Run Block: The line saw mixed success; they allowed only 23 rushing yards on 2.9 yards per carry.
    * Pass Block: The line failed to protect effectively, leading to a high-turnover game with a 42-26 loss, despite a valiant effort by the backup QB, Mac Jones, to keep the game competitive in the first half

    1. I'm pulling for the best run blocking offensive lineman drafted on day 3, Carver Willis!

    2. No love for Robert Jones? I think he'll surprise as a pretty solid option.

    1. With that much cap space I'd like to see the 9ers sign free agent safety Xavier Woods for 1 - 2 years. ~$4 Mil. for one year, or two years at ~$8 mil.
IMO. he fits the 9ers need for a reliable, veteran safety, known for his versatility

    2. Let's see what Flock of Sigle looks like first. I think he could be the FS if communication improves with Warner back.

  5. The 49ers have signed Larry Worth III to a three-year deal and released Milo Eifler. Worth took part in the rookie tryouts a few days ago. It was good enough to earn himself a spot on the 90-man roster leading into training camp. Former linebacker converted to safety.

  6. Maiocco, "LG is the 49ers’ only opening. I do not project Toth as the 49ers’ starting LG. I believe rookie Carver Willis has a good shot. Connor Colby and Robert Jones are also in the mix".

    1. Seems the me that Jones should be favored, no?

    2. You could view it that way, but I think Willis will win the job outright.

  7. Should be a good TC battle. But, Willis will likely need to "wow" in TC the way Puni did a couple of years ago. Whoever wins this battle to be the starter will have definitely earned it.

    1. I'll roll the dice on Willis since Foerster hand selected him while following him around at WA's practices. May the best man win!

  8. Good point. But Willis didn't have to go up against seasoned pro's while in college. If he can make a smooth transition to the NFL level of play in TC the way Puni did, then he would have earned the starting job out the gate.
TC separates the wheat from the chaff.

Taken By Force

Many reasons why the 49ers are on the low end of forcing turnovers, but what is the number one reason in your opinion?
