On The Run

  1. The 49ers met with OL Caden "Vanilla Gorilla" Barnett at his Pro Day. 5.05 40, 31" vertical, 4.63 SS, 7.65 3C at 316 pounds! 👀

"I like to punch somebody in the mouth. I think I was meant to play football in the 80s."

  2. Bredeson and either Kanak could become the next Juzyck in a 49ers type offensive scheme. Juice was also a TE in college that has seemlessly become a great RB/Lead Blocker in the big league.

  3. Anyone have a guess on where Adam Randall will go?

  4. Red Murdock 17 Forced Fumbles (NCAA Record). Day 3 turnover machine.

    1. I'm a little surprised Miller doesn't get more hype.

    2. I've always had him in the top half of the 2nd round. His versatility and run defense likely appealing to a team like SF.

      Delete
    3. Yeah, I think he should be in the convo for DT#1.

    4. Jeez, I see Larry K is endorsing Miller at 27. Don't know how that makes me feel about the idea 🤣 he is good though, and thr 49ers still have a need at DT - currently only have 3 guys that have played any meaningful snaps in the NFL.

    5. I don't think there's any question as to whether or not they've met with Miller given Lynch was at Georgia's Pro Day, but then again, they could get an awful lot of intel from Williams.

    6. Good athlete, high character, high effort, high energy, high motivation, and smart. Type of guy that will at least be good.

    7. I wouldn't want to be the team that takes McDonald over Miller. Wouldn't surprise me in the least if he was in consideration when pick 27 arrives.

  6. Deion Burks: 26 reps bench (98th percentile) 42.5 vert (98th percentile) 131" broad jump (92nd percentile) 1.49 10-yard (94% ) 4.30 40-yard (97%) Reported to squat 540 LBS, benches 400 LBS and cleans 340 LBS.

  7. When I see Burks. I hear the janitor in the movie Rudy saying, "you're 5 feet nothing, and 100 and nothing." But, a 4.2, 40 definitely can make up for most deficiencies.

  9. Yes sir, Coach. Can't wait to see what gifts JL-Claus puts under the tree.

  10. NFL offenses ran the ball at the highest rate since 2011 (40.8%), had the highest rushing success rate on RB runs since 2004, used 2 or fewer WRs at the highest rate since 2014, and people will still tell you that how a Edge prospect defends the run doesn't matter.🤷‍♂️

    1. It actually took longer for this transition to happen than I thought it would. Defenses have been getting smaller and faster for 2 decades, to combat the passing game. Was only a matter of time before offenses started looking to find size advantages in the run game.

It's not just the edges you need to be able to defend the run. Having at least one stout DT on the field at all times, preferably two, as well as LBs and safeties able to take on blockers, will increasingly become more important again.

  11. 2026 NFL Draft EDGE prospects with a 15.0% pressure rate or higher + double-digit sacks in 2025, per TruMedia:

    😤 David Bailey, Texas Tech
    😤 Nadame Tucker, W. Michigan
    😤 Derrick Moore, Michigan
    😤 Romello Height, Texas Tech
    😤 Michael Heldman, C. Michigan
    😤 Caden Curry, Ohio State
    😤 Akheem Mesidor, Miami (FL)
    😤 Cashius Howell, Texas A&M

Some recent draft picks who did this in their final college season:

    Abdul Carter
    Mike Green
    Princely Umanmielen
    JT Tuimoloau
    Laiatu Latu
    Dallas Turner

  12. 5 of the double digit Edge players above will likely be drafted after the 1st rd. This could potentially allow the 49ers to go WR or OL at 27. WR would be my guess.

  14. One of hundreds mock draft talking heads, Pete Prisco has the 49ers going with former Alabama OL Kayden Proctor at 27. With TW still in limbo and even if he signs, his expiration date is drawing to a close sooner than later. I wouldn't be mad with the 49ers being pro-active in going with Proctor.

    1. Watch the Rams trade down so a team like the Giants can trade up for Proctor.

    2. McShay is hearing the Browns want Proctor as high as at #6.

  15. Razor,
The mock draft storylines will begin in earnest in the next few weeks. I have my personal opinions and preferences on which direction the 49ers will go. But, draft day will reveal the truth and who knows, maybe a surprise or two.

    1. This is a tougher nut to crack than last year. I was very confident in Williams being the pick last draft. Let's walk through it together. I'm fairly confident it won't be OL for a couple reasons. One being they don't value OG that highly. Two unless you believe they're moving on from Trent there's no room at OT. Drafting one to play OG is something they do on day 3. That leaves WR, DE and iDL as positions they put a premium on. The WR room is refurbished in the short term which means they might be able to wait until day 2. The DL room is still a work in progress, which leads me to believe that's the direction they might go.

    2. I'm with razor here. DL feels like their preferred direction round 1, so long as the right player is there.

Not to mention that at the owners meetings Lynch also said that upgrading the DL remains a priority after FA while intimating they may wait to add a WR.

  16. When it comes to 49ers 1st round picks other than Bosa it always seems like a surprise.

    1. I've gotten 'em all right going all the way back to Armstead except for the trade back for Kinlaw/Aiyuk and Pearsall.

    2. Coach,
You're right. Bosa was a no-brainer. Of course, I had to be the one oddball touting Josh Allen over Bosa. Maybe that's why I stay clear from doing mock drafts.

      Delete
    3. I remember Grant Cohn wanting Allen too and trying to paint Bosa as a racist the week of the draft.

    4. Razor,
Dang, being associated with GC really puts me in bad company. Now, I likely will never do a mock draft. Yeah, GC went psycho trying to paint Bosa as a racist. I believe that might have been the beginning of the end for GC on the once great Maiocco Inside the 49ers blog.

  17. Razor,
When can we expect an updated mock draft from you?

  18. I was reading that the Rams are using robotics through GPS data they have access to and putting the All-22 through it. Projects the players athletic explosion on the move, through contact, around bodies while maintaining speed. It's a compromised live version as opposed to non-compromised (combine). There's a player who's tested as high as some of the best playing in the league right now and it's why I think he could go much higher than where the consensus has him. That player is SE Louisiana DT Kaleb Proctor.

    1. Excellent athlete, can definitely see him going day 2.

  19. NFL offensive tackles who have finished top 10 at the position in PFSN's OL Impact metric in each of the last 3 seasons:

    🛡️ Trent Williams, 49ers
    🛡️ Penei Sewell, Lions
    🛡️ Jordan Mailata, Eagles

Williams and Sewell have both ranked in the top 5 in five straight seasons.

  20. Add Peter Schager to the list of the draftniks that predict the 49ers going with Caleb Lomu at 27. While there's no debate that TW is still a top 5 OL player, there's also no guarantee that he and the 49ers will come to a mutual agreement.

There's also a report that the Chiefs are eyeing the current 49ers and TW situation with keen interest, because they would like Williams on their OL.
