DeleteThere was a player (Edge) that many draftniks thought had all the measureables. He was even athletic enough to do flips. Drake Jackson still only has the 3 sacks he had against the Steelers many moons ago. Measureables are overrated.
DeleteI like going to overall production. There's good NFL players today and over the years that didn't meet the measureables.

3. I came into the week thinking the DT position was high quality. I’m starting to question that. Analysts are whispering about how each DT in this class has major flaws, while also acknowledging that DTs are rising in positional value, especially in the face of the Mike MacDonald Super Bowl victory with Leonard Williams, Byron Murphy, and Jarran Reed. While it very well could occur that players like that could be found, analysts are split on who it is.
Clemson DT Demonte Capehart is a player I came into the combine thinking he'd be one of the best day 3 value picks and his numbers seem to confirm that:

ReplyDeleteCashius Howell reached 14.52 mph while rounding the corner in the pass rush drill, the only defensive lineman to exceed 14 mph during the 2026 Combine. Howell posted the fastest pass rush speed by any DL prospect since Will Anderson Jr. (14.90 mph) in 2023. Malachai Lawerence placed 3rd with 13.91 mph.

Texas Tech DT Lee Hunter posted a 21.5-inch vert which is the 4th lowest for a DT at the NFL Combine since 2013. I'm out on Hunter 27 as I don't believe he possesses the explosion necessary to improve much from where he is as a pass rusher.

DeleteCaleb Banks owns the worst career run missed tackle rate (22%) and second-worst run stop rate (3.2%) among drafted DTs since 2016 via PFF.
DeleteThe only EDGE prospects since 2015 with an RAS > 9.89 and a sack rate > 4.0% in at least one college season..

ReplyDeleteSince 2010, just 36 Offensive Linemen recorded a 4.47 short shuttle or better at the NFL Combine. 31 were drafted ✅Those 31 went on to start 80.1% of their NFL games.
ReplyDeleteAnother metric piggybacking off this one is the variance between the short shuttle and 40-yard dash. If it’s .5 or greater, it demonstrates change of direction and ankle flexion. If it’s below .25, it indicates the player may be quick but struggles with COD and ankle flex

DeleteProbably not, but only because the cost is too great.
DeleteThis draft class is underwhelming at the top. The “best guys” at the premium positions are mostly thought to be guys who wouldn’t have been the top guys in other draft classes. Tough decisions if the “best guy” is an “above avg” starter rather than a blue-chip guy… is he worth spending a high pick on or do you pivot to the higher end guy at a position that’s not as highly valued? (RB, LB, Safety).

DeleteEspecially when you have creative play callers and schemes that can accentuate guys in those positions.
The only LB prospects since 2015 with an RAS > 8.50 and at least one college season with a passer rating when targeted < 60.0 and a run defense grade > 80.0..
