CBS predicts the 49ers will sign center Tyler Linderbaum to a 4-year $72M deal. Zero percent chance that happens. It's almost comical how badly fans want to move on from Brendel. He'll be the center in 2026, and I trust Forester has a plan for life after Jake.

Following on from previous discussion, I take it you think Shanahan believer Brendel is better than Linderbaum (irrespective of price/ value)?
ReplyDelete
DeleteHe's scouted Linderbaum. He knows he's available. Let's see what happens.
I believe Shanahan LOVES Brendel and I'm sure he likes Linderbaum. I don't see him putting a ring on it.
It's an interesting conversation though. I agree Shanahan really likes Brendel, but I do think he'd be higher on Linderbaum, all things being equal. And I do think Brendel's age/ contract situation could make the 49ers interested in s guy of Linderbaum's calibre if he actually does hit FA.
DeleteYou think they resign Matt Hennessy? He'll be 29 this year.
DeleteOn a vet minimum perhaps. I think there could be some turnover at the bottom of the OL roster.
DeleteAgreed.
DeleteIm guessing it will just be a low paid vet for left guard... and no center replacement just due to cost. Getting Linderbaum would mean replacing a slightly below average center with a top 5 center which would be great... but I think he would come a prohibitive cost. (I'd draft a center in the 3rd or 4th)
DeleteAs to what the coaches say, I'm old enough to remember when he said "you have to be pretty good to beat out (Cassius) Marsh."
Coaches, don't insult players that are signed and on the roster.
Shoup, you're not suggesting Shanahan is "coach speaking" about Brendel are you?
DeleteHa ha ha absolutely. I also think Kyle is satisfied with Brendal at that price... I just happen to disagree with his philosophy regarding the Oline.
DeleteHard to argue with a philosophy that's brought so much success to the 49ers. If you look at Harbaugh's philosophy in San Diego which aligns with yours, you find it's not the panacea you think it is.
DeleteOr Philly's with 2SBs?
DeleteI'm not saying they need to invest a ton there. I would just prefer they invest more draft wise at the position ( not kicker, punter or on a 3rd RB that that won't see the field). have more balance across the line. I don't like knowing this is a bottom 5 line in the NFL if Trent goes out.
$20M in Linderbaum ain't chump change my guy. Investing in LG through the draft/fa, upgrade the bottom of the room and have an eventual successor at center is all they really need.
DeleteIf memory serves me correctly, the 49ers and Brendel had the number 1 rushing offense in the NFL in '23.
DeleteI believe the only 1st round pick Roseman spent on an Offensive Lineman was Kelce. I lost count how many the Chargers spent.
How's the running game been since 2023? How's Brendel's knee been?
DeleteHe'll be 34 next season.
We know they aren't going to pay a LG big money. Maybe they draft one round 2/3 but that doesn't by any stretch guarantee a good starting LG in 2026. After the struggles they had last year, I'm not confident that OL can get the run game on track.
Georgia State WR Ted Hurst just had the catch of the day. A nasty one-hander.

Sign Kyle Pitts instead of JJ. Pitts ran a 4.44 forty whereas JJ ran a 4.72 forty. Pitts is also 35 pound heavier. Big, fast receivers that won't be pushed around at the LOS and can inflict some punishment. George can help him improve his blocking.
ReplyDeleteOutside of Linderbaum, Pitts is the only other FA I'd consider going after and paying top of the market for. But from what I've heard it sounds likely the Falcons will tag him.

ReplyDeleteGeorgia CB Daylen Everette looks like another scheme fit in the 3rd/4th round.
ReplyDeleteThe 49ers O line looked terrible against top 7 or so defenses. Both pass but even more run blocking. If it is not Brendel then which player/players are the problem. If their O line doesn't play better next year the season will end the same way as this year and Purdy will end up injured.
ReplyDeleteLG is the opening they have available.
DeleteAgreed Coach. Good DL were able to hold gaps, clog lanes and create room for the back 7 to penetrate all too often. It's a big part of why so many inside runs went for only 2-3 yards (or less).
DeleteAgreed, you have to be able to run for positive yards consistently against light boxes (6 or fewer defenders).
DeleteThe Interior Oline rated near the bottom of the league at run block win rate and as such SF faced a ton of light boxes. You don't have to get a ton of explosives against this but you need to consistently get about 4 yards, and SF couldn't.
Derrick Moore measured in at 6'3 and 1/2 and 255. That's pretty decent size for a speed rusher.
ReplyDeleteI've been on him in the second but I'm not sure he will be there after the senior bowl and what I expect him to do at the combine.
DeleteThat said there are a lot of edge guys and the only edge I'd take in the first that "might" be there is tj parker.
Who goes first? Joshua Joseph or Derrick Moore?
DeleteBrowns staying true to character and doing Browns things. Todd Monken is apparently HC.
