Left for dead last week with all his drops, the Bourne Redemption exploded against the Rams Thursday night. 10 catches for 142 yards is a career high for the maligned dancer. Mac Jones gutted out one of the grittiest wins I've ever had the pleasure of watching, leaving McVay green around the gills. Alfred Collins floated like a butterfly and stung like a bee with an overhand right and down went Frazier. Out came the ball and like the tax man, Collins collected! 3-0 in the division and the world is our oyster! We got 10 days to get guys healthy and make a deal for a DE. Lets go!!!!!

+100!
ReplyDeleteAs a 9er fan, no doubt from emotional despair after the loss to the Jaguars, to Irrational Ecstasy after beating the Rams!
ReplyDeleteA thumbs up to the McVey-Rams grave diggers, Bourne, Collins and Jones.
Also, a shout out to KS, Saleha and their coaching staff, for showing once again how they're one of the best in the NFL
49ers DL Kalia Davis to have surgery on broken hand.

I feel like Al "Ali" Collins, (thanks for that imagery Razor), has already given the team more in one game then Kinlaw did during his time with the 49ers. CJ West also looks like he's ready to take on more snaps. The 2025 draft is already paying dividends and FAs like Bourne, Demarcus Robinson and of course Mac "Braveheart" Jones have contributed to the teams early success.
ReplyDeleteThis is starting to look like an exciting season.
Question for the blog: Should the 9ers trade for an EDGE rusher before
ReplyDeletethe NOV 4th trade deadline? If yes, who?
* Trey Hendrickson, Cincinnati...Will require high 9er draft pick
* Kayvon Thibodeaux, N Y Giants...Cost is likely too high.
* Jaelan Phillips, Miami Dolphins....History of injuries!
* Arden Key, Tennessee...former 9er...History of durability.
* Bradley Chubb, Miami...Available is Miami continues to lose?
* Carl Granderson, New Orleans..Shows potential..Less experience
NOTE:
* Trey Hendrickson is in final year of his contract, making him a rental for the rest of the season.
*
GEEP,
DeleteIf they win 3 out of the next 4 I think they have to add a pass rusher but don't waste picks on another Chase Young. Because Hendrickson is only a rental his asking price might not be as much as you think. They will get a 3rd round comp pick back when he signs else where. I hate to see them trade any of next years picks, I believe they need them all to rebuild this O line. I would give up a 3 in this years draft (they will just replace it with a comp pick) and a 2nd in 2027. I think Thibodeaux will have to high an asking price. Key is interesting he excelled under Koceruk but he rushed the passer from inside with the 9ers
They're 4-1 which is very exciting but if we're honest they have had a bit of luck to win so many games. I'd have to see them start dominating a few games before I thought they had a chance at a SB run to make adding a good pass rusher rental worth it this year.
DeleteGive me Danielle Hunter and we'll continue to make our own luck.
DeleteMcVay looked like a leprechaun in those pair of capri pants he had on.
Scooter
DeleteAgree with you on 9er LUCK. But "IF" the 9ers do dominate, who would you trade for?
OldCoach
DeleteThe Bengals are asking for a "young D player" and a 1st Rd draft pick for Trey Hendrickson. It's also believed they've previously turned down trade offers that didn't meet their asking price.
If they start dominating games (which to me would likely mean they get the run game going), then I'd be looking at most of the guys you listed. But I think guys on the last year of their rookie deals would be of most interest to me - because they will tend to have the lowest $ cost so smallest impact on future cap space. Phillips or Thibodeaux could be nice options.
DeleteThe run game will be back against Atlanta which happens to coincide with Kittle's return.
DeleteI hope so, but imo the issues with the run game are primarily OL related, not TE related.
DeleteKittle is the straw that stirs the run game. Hell, when Woerner left and they tried to replace him with Saubert, Foerster admitted he was never able to do it and consequently their run game sucked.
DeleteEven when it "sucked" in previous years, they were averaging over 4 ypc. This is by far the worst its looked under Shanahan. The OL is the biggest culprit for that. CMC has one of the lowest average yards before contact in the NFL.
DeleteYou sure?
Delete49ers Run Game:
Kittle on field: 4.9 ypc
No Kittle: 3.3 ypc
In defense of the OL in the run game, the Rams DL is elite and PFF grades show the OL did much better in the run game than the passing game. Not only is Kittle a big part of the run game, I would also include the blocking abilities of Pearsall and Jennings which were missing. Let’s see what the run game looks like with the return of those 3 players.
DeleteYep, Aiyuk too. Bourne doesn't block.
DeleteHope you're all correct, but to my eyes the OL has struggled mightily in getting things blocked up in the run game so far.
DeleteOut of curiosity razor, are those averages from this year? If so, that's all of one quarter of play with Kittle.
DeleteAccording to StatMuse, 49ers have averaged 4.0 ypc without Kittle over his career. So they are currently doing worse than usual without him.
Since 2024 Scooter.
DeleteThat's interesting. He only missed two games last year and they averaged 4.5 ypc those two games. Not a big drop from the 4.9 with him.
DeleteAES - Old Coach, or anyone else that's old enough to remember.
ReplyDeleteIsn't this year somewhat reminiscent to the 1981year. I saw this in preseason. Big defensive draft then and again this year. I am not saying SB winner by any stretch of the imagination just an interesting note. (HOF Ronnie Lott, Eric Wright, Carlton Williamson, Pete Kugler, John Harty, all playing important roles.)
UC,
DeleteIf things continue along the same trajectory then yes but I'm not sure if anything could come close to matching 81. My two favorite 49ers seasons are 1970 and 1981. There is nothing like first times
UC,
ReplyDeleteYes, very similar. I remember that year well. Although, the game is much different today than back then (Ronnie Lott, would lead the league in penalties in today's game for his vicious tackling). But, the young rookies today are making big contributions like the young players back in the early 80s. Good times were ahead for the team back then, and good times are ahead for this team.
Food for thought: What's our record without PiƱeiro?
ReplyDeleteEddie Money took us home last night.
DeleteWhen's the last time we had a guy kick one for 59 yards. My guess is never.
DeleteI think Moody hit one in that stadium for 57 but don't quote me on it.
DeleteIf this team could ever get all their players on the field at one time healthy they could make a Super Bowl run no problem.
ReplyDeleteMykel Williams warrants a game ball, too. I just re-watched the last play. Williams was at left end. He beat their tackle inside so bad -- took the tackle away from blocking for the runner. He was as responsible as anybody. He was terrific as were Lucas, Sigle and Warner.
ReplyDeleteJubilation
Yep, Williams was key on that stop.
DeleteThat was an EPIC effort from Mac Jones, borderline HEROIC! I don't often admit I am wrong because frankly, I rarely am, but .... I was WRONG about Michael McCorkle "MAC" JONES!
ReplyDeleteLol!
DeleteThe 49ers generated 16 pressures and 1 sack as a team vs the Rams
ReplyDelete• Bryce Huff: 4 (sack)
• Sam Okuayinonu: 2
• Yetur Gross-Matos: 2
• Jordan Elliott 2
• Mykel Williams: 1
• Alfred Collins: 1
• Upton Stout: 1
• CJ West: 1
• Ji'Ayir Brown: 1
• Jason Pinnock: 1
Alfred Collins didn't punch out the ball -- he punched Williams in the jaw. No wonder he fumbled. Lucky to be alive.
