ReplyDeleteYesterday was exhausting- lean on the running game at New Orleans and then stop the run and contain Kyler- I think D Robinson will help and assume Kittle will maybe be gone for two games........ hopefully, maybe it's nothing- I had a bad hamstring and it is the worst!
ReplyDeleteHave to admit I'm surprised he signed an extension. But $45 Mil over 3 years, plus $27 Mil guaranteed, I understand why. This puts him tied for #31 among all tackles in the NFL.

McKivitz is 13th on the RT salary scale in the league, while the Chiefs are paying Moore to Jaylon to sit on the bench!

49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said after Sunday's win over the Seahawks that the team hoped to get a deal done with free agentwide receiver Kendrick Bourne after visiting with him last week and things have now fallen into place.
Bourne's agents told ESPN that their client has agreed to a one-year deal with the Niners. It is worth up to $5 million.
This is a good signing. He knows the system and now we just need another tackle and a center or IOL in the next draft.

Taking that deal makes McKivitz a trusted agent and not a money whore.
DeleteThey took a chance on him, trained him, and stayed with him --- let's face it, he's never been the Second Coming -- and now he's paying them back. So good to see.
DeleteYeah Mckivitz is the textbook example of a player on the bare minimum "line" that Foerster talks about.
DeleteHe is 29 and will get better, as he develops chemistry with Purdy and the rest of the O-line.
Well that eliminates one need this off season. Next they have to replace the left G, the C and pick up a swing OT that can eventually replace Williams. Bartch and Brendel both looked terrible yesterday. Does anyone have their PFF grades.

DeleteThe 49ers blitzed Sam Darnold on 27% of his drop backs. That's a 10% spike in their blitz rate from last year. They exceeded a 27% blitz rate in just 4 games last season, and only 2 of those came after Week 5. Winters blitzed 8 times while last year only 3.

ReplyDeleteI thought the rookies had rough days on watching the game, but man, PFF were pretty brutal. Collins and Stout in particular with very low grades (Collins below 30!).

This is why I thought the defense may struggle a bit early in the year. It will take time for these guys to get up to NFL speed but will be relied on to give a lot of snaps anyway. Thankfully it didn't hurt them much against the Seahawks.

DeleteWhen I saw your PFF grades for the D I was shocked That Lenoir wasn't in the top 6. I have never understood how PFF does their grades.
Lenoir had a penalty....he was setting the tone with a physical play. That could have been the reason for the reduced PFF grade.

Apparently, Saleh believes that M.W has the ability of taking on these responsibilities. If Williams can find success on this as a rookie, imagine how great his future could be with more experience. Now, the 49ers need to develop these young DL guys to stuff the running game.
DeleteTotally agree. In the first quarter it seemed like the Hawks could run at will 3-5 yards a carry. However, it looked like the Niners got better at defending it as the game progressed. If the Niners shut down the run game they will win a whole lot of games.

DeleteThe 49ers DL did show much improvement in the 2nd half. Im going to credit Saleh for the adjustments. I can't wait to see how improved the young players look after 7 games.

ReplyDeleteSince entering the league, he's 21-for-25 as a rookie, (ranked bottom half of the league). then going an abysmal 14-for-24 in Year 2. Drafted in the 3rd Rd for his booming leg, Moody struggled from 40 yards and beyond, going 16-for-29 in that range for his career.
Not one of the 9ers better draft choices. But who replaces him? TBD
I'll miss Kittle. It's such fun to watch him play.

Trent Williams was horrible. Some analysts postulated that he might be "rusty." Hope so. Otherwise, since kittle's out, might as well use a six-man o-line (just trippin'), although it's not unheard of for short yardage. New Orleans had 5 sacks last week and Mac Jones is a statue.
Anyway, Bourne? Is he any good?
Maybe Moody can join either the USFL or the Canadian Football league to iron out his issues. It's too bad that the NFL can't use these leagues like Baseball uses Triple A teams.
