Game Day Week 3: Cardinals vs. 49ers

Mac Jones gets the start again this week. If he continues to hold the ball he might not make it through unscathed. With Burford going on IR, it's Pleasants swinging LT and RT. They didn't call up Zakelj so that means either Colby is good to go or they like Moss' strength as a better match up against Tomlinson. The Cardinals secondary isn't full strength which means Ricky Pearsall should score his first TD today. Arizona's blitz rate is 31st in the NFL at 14.2%, but they are 4th in EPA/blitz at -0.33. San Francisco ranks third in the NFL against the blitz, boasting a 0.62 mark. The 49ers are 5th in EPA/non-blitz with a 0.11 mark. Handle the pressure & attack the secondary. The Niners defense needs to do something they've yet to do and that's stop James Conner. Do that and they should win the game. I like CMC to be force fed the ball in this one. It might not be Purdy but we will win this game! 24-17 Forty Niners!!

  1. The unfortunate realization is that we don't know if any of the other, older, receivers can get any separation...... would like to see stretch plays to keep AZ's front four honest on the edges. In Mac I trust.... big game. D Rob's return will be important addition next week.

      * I don't disagree, but IMO, containing murray is the key to a 9er win over Arizona.
      * With 5 of Arizona's CB's out, Both CMC and Pearsall should
have receiving TD's. CMC a receiving TD and a Run TD.

  4. I expect a lot 21 personnel today, as well as some 12 and 22.

Arizona HC Gannon and OC Petzing, will employ a lot of 11 and 12 personnel, but I doubt we'll see them use much 21 or 22 personnel.
Arizona wil runs 2 TE sets more than 50% of the time. They will also run 13 personnel grouping. Gannon has specifically built the Arizona roster to utilize TE's Trey McBride, Tip Reiman, and Elijah Higgins in multiple formations.
Petzing uses 13 personnel to open up the play-action passing game. By selling the run and try catching the LB's and safeties moving up toward the line of scrimmage, creating opportunities for their TE(s) to run pass routes into an open space.

    1. I felt that the Rams would be a good test for the Eagles and so far it's Philly that is failing.

    2. Philly looks as if they've figured out the Rams.

Eagles score TD and lead 28 to Rams 26, with 1:48 left.....Like I said, a win over Arizona and the 9ers lead the division.....

    5. Turns out the Rams special teams might be as bad as ours.

    7. I got you, GEEP. Well fought game and Rams still look very strong. This division will be between the 49ers and the Rams. But after just 3 games it's not a given either way. My heart says the 49ers, but my mind says there's still a lot of football left to play.

  7. Cardinals are a bad 2nd half team.....we just have to weather the onslaught of the 1st quarter and keep turnovers to a minimum. If Special teams don't kill us, the D is good enough to win the game on it's own.

Mac is something like 0-7 after a win, but this time I think we will prevail in a knife-fight. Arizona's secondary is bad....looking for a big game from CMC, Pearsall and Bourne/Juice.

    Go Niners 28-24!

  10. 2 possessions and the O line has been horrible. Sweat is dominating the O line. We might be in for a long day

  11. Saleh's defenses biggest weakness stopping running QBs
