FELICIANO, "Whenever you have a load front like that everyone needs to set tighter just in case of games. Colby has to play with more extension and not get his head buried in the block so he can see the game happening. Spence can stay tighter as well so it’s an easier pass off".
This is why its so important to have continuity across the OL because these are issues that arise from not playing together in the system long enough. These will be ironed out over the course of the season.
Jaylon Allen (DE) has quietly put some good film out there. He's likely not gonna make it to the practice squad if thats the Niners hope.
ReplyDeleteWR D. J. Chark released from the Falcons.
ReplyDeleteTHE HITS JUST KEEP COMING: Saturday's preseason game:
ReplyDelete* Puni was injured on the starters' lone drive. He'll be out a few
weeks with right knee PCL injury
* Left guard Ben Bartsch did not not play against the Raiders because of an elbow injury.
* The 9ers also lost running backs Patrick Taylor Jr. and Corey Kiner. Taylor will miss a couple of weeks with a dislocated shoulder, and Kiner will be out a few weeks with a high ankle sprain.
Can Kiner's injury be a blessing in disguise if the 49ers designate him to the PUP? I have to believe that the team has been impressed by his running style of power and balance.
ReplyDeleteThe '26 OL class looks very, very good. 10 OT's and 15 iOL by my count that are draft worthy.

DeleteYep, we've both identified O-linemen we'd like to see the 9ers draft....for me: 2 OT's and a Center. If memory serves, you had 2 OT from Utah?
Correct.
DeleteThe 49ers are favored to win the NFC WEST on Polymarket Sports, the most accurate prediction market in the world.
ReplyDeleteIf they can't stop the run, they are not going anywhere.
DeleteIf I had to guess the starting DL: Williams/Elliott/Collins/Bosa
DeleteIf the Commanders cut WR Tinsley I'd have interest. I wonder if Shanahan would.
ReplyDeleteIt was nice to see Burford have a good game against the Raiders. That definitely gave me a bit more confidence he can handle the backup OT role. But I still think he should be getting a crack at a starting OG spot.
ReplyDeleteColby at either OG position puts my mind at cheese.
DeleteThat 6-11 2024 record is also a useful tool in terms of building the roster because they can use it in the waiver claim process to add to the team after the initial 53 man cut down.

Delete9ERS TRIED TO TRADE FOR A WR:
ReplyDelete* WR John Metchie was traded from Houston to Philly. According to reports, the 9ers were outbid by the Eagles. The compensation Houston received was a 6th Rd pick and TE Harrison Bryant.
* Possible WR trade targets for the 9ers ahead of cut down day:\
* Diontae Johnson could be cut from Cleveland after the team signed Isaiah Bond.
* Malachi Corley of the Jets might be cut, given his snap count in the 2nd preseason game against the Giants. A reunion with Kendrick Bourne or taking a chance on young receiver Malachi Corley of the Jets might be on the outside looking in, given his snap count in the 2nd preseason game against the Giants. Also WR's Kendrick Bourne and Ja’Lynn Polk, if they're cut from New England.
The Bills added Josh Palmer with a big contract and signed Elijah Moore on a low-risk, 1 year deal. Keon Coleman and Khalil Shakir are primed for the most playing time, especially Shakir, who was extended this offseason. That could leave WR Curtis Samuel on the outs?
I wonder if Shanahan is after a specific type of WR like Metchie, or just any decent WR option?
DeleteIf Metchie is the type of WR he's after, then Polk may be an option.
Scooter
DeleteI think you're right on Polk, but, IMO, he'll need to improve his consistency against press coverage.
I'm not a fan of Polk tbh. Too much of a plodder for mine. Just thinking in terms of whether a Metchie type WR is what they are after, then Polk has some similarities.
DeleteFinally got my Niners mini helmet from Krueger he owed me after calling me out for a bet.
ReplyDeleteFinally got my draft winner T-Shirt from Chapman too.
There's a report that the 49ers brought in former QB Nate Sudfelt for a tryout. Sudfelt had a good showing in the Broncos vs 49ers preseason game and is familiar with Shanahan' O-scheme.
ReplyDelete"Sudfeld"
ReplyDeleteMatt Barrows,
ReplyDelete"Per source, the 49ers will be signing QB Nate Sudfeld, who had a tryout with them on Monday. Sudfeld, 31, spent the 2021 season in San Francisco and knows the offense."
Mac Jones injured?
ReplyDeleteKnee sprain and will be ready week 1.

I'm a little concerned about Mac Jones. Besides this chart, his overall 2 preseason games have mostly average. These are his preseason stats after 2 games: 209 yrds. 0 TDs. 2 Ints.
DeleteMaybe Mac is still learning Shanahan's O-scheme that makes sense. But I would not be surprised if at some point this season we see Sudfeld play.
Brock's a gem. Weird to see Mahomes at 53%, no?
DeleteThe 9ers have a number of RB's dealing with injuries. * Should JL be interested in the Commanders RB Brian Robinson Jr as a Mason RB replacement?
ReplyDelete* He's in the last year of his rookie contract and facing a potential trade or release.
* . Robinson is a powerful, 6'1", 230-pound RB with good size and some receiving ability, a physically imposing RB with the size to break tackles and move the pile. He's also shown the ability to be a steady, productive runner, topping 700 rushing yards in each of his three NFL seasons.
* The Commanders have a crowded backfield with RB's like Austin Ekeler, Chris Rodriguez Jr., and Jacory Croskey-Merritt. That makes Robinson's spot potentially expendable. The Commanders are reportedly exploring trade options for Robinson, but they may also release him if a trade partner can't be found.
THE 9ERS RECEIVE SOME BAD NEWS AND SOME GOOD NEWS:
ReplyDeleteBAD NEWS:
* 9ers backup QB Mac Jones sustained a knee sprain that will prevent him from playing in the preseason finale and explains why the 9ers signed Nate Sudfeld.
Jones' injury isn’t considered severe. KS expects Jones to be back by Week 1.
* RB Patrick Taylor Jr. is headed to the Injured Reserve list after dislocating his shoulder. On Tuesday, Shanahan said Taylor’s injury will cause him to miss the whole season.
* KS said running back Corey Kiner’s high-ankle sprain is a “pretty bad one” that he believes will keep Kiner sidelined a month, and perhaps a little longer.
* Yetur Gross-Matos: The 9ers must decide whether he’ll start on the PUP list or not: KS: . That hasn’t been coming as fast as they want. We still got 2 weeks here that we’re hoping for. That’ll be one of our big decisions with everything that I talked about earlier from the 53, to the 46, how long we have to wait till Matos comes back.
GOOD NEWS:
* Guerendo, Renardo Green, Sam Okuayinonu, Jordan Elliott, and Jason Pinnock all practiced. DE Nick Bosa was back, too!
* Shanahan on getting Guerendo and Green back at practice:
Both of those guys, it was real good to get back. And they stayed back. I’m always nervous with those guys the first time. That’s why they put them through the protocol before they get back. Guerendo was about letting his shoulder heal, but he was able to keep his conditioning great, because it was just a shoulder injury.
Renardo’s being a hamstring took a lot longer, to where a normal protocol, he might have been back last week. We were a lot safer with them, making sure they could go this week.
Fresh legs, you're wearing me out.
ReplyDeleteNiners have worked out the following players:
ReplyDelete- OL Chasen Hines
- OL Carter O'Donnell
- OL Michael Dunn
DT Kevin Givens (pec) and RB Corey Kiner (high ankle) are the two likely players the 49ers can put on IR designation to return when they cut to 53 next week.
ReplyDeleteWhat about Yetur-Gross Matos?
DeleteI love Kiner, but knowing how we don't really prioritize rookie UDFA's I have a feeling that instead of Kiner, YGM might be one of the IR Designation to return.
I predict YGM will get the PUP designation.
