Game Day: 49ers vs Raiders Preseason Week 2
Who will emerge and take advantage of their opportunities today?

The stench of the last game is still in my nostrils. Will the 49ers clear the air? Not if they don't start making tackles. Not if they...

The second to last preseason gamed used to be the final dress rehearsal but with all of the injuries the 9ers have had I expect minimal participation of the potential starters. How much do the rest of you think all of this missed practice and preseason game time will effect their play in the first 4 to 6 games?

DeleteGiven the injuries and it’s a preseason game, IMO, it’s unlikely that many of the 9er starters will see much game action beyond a few drives in the first quarter.
And as Kittle said, he wa surprised by how similar the new Raiders defense was in comparison to the old Seahawks tapes, when Pete Carroll was the Seattle HC.
Great interview:

Enjoy the game everyone. Unfortunately, I'll be at work during it and will have to catch it on replay.
ReplyDeleteIn 2024, Bosa, recorded an average 'get-off' time of 0.7 seconds - the quickest average 'get-off' time of his career. (Per NFL)
ReplyDeleteCAN IT HAPPEN AGAIN?
ReplyDeleteConnor Colby could be a Dominick Puni-sized surprise. Dominick Puni took the starting guard spot in 2024 and never looked back. Could history repeat with Connor Colby?

IF ONE ROOKIE STARTER IS GOOD, THEN IS TWO BETTER?
ReplyDeleteCan a 49ers Day 3 rookie steal a starting spot come Week ONE?
* Third year pro Ji’Ayir Brown and free agent signee Jason Pinnock begun training camp as starters. But, there is a rookie that is slowly creeping into the starting group: fifth-round pick, Marques Sigle!
* Sigle, a 5’11, 200-pound S who played college ball at Kansas State, was a key contributor in the 9ers’ first preseason game, playing 33 snaps against the Broncos. His performance drew positive reviews from teammates, including MLB Fred Warner, who pointed out his playing style and communication. Sigle crept into the starting group this week at practice, rotating in with Jason Pinnock one day, then playing alongside Ji’Ayir Brown during Thursday’s joint practice.
Aiyuk catching passes before the raiders game. Hopefully at this rate he could be on the field before his projected 6 game of the season.
ReplyDeleteWhen Bethune hits, you can hear the pop on the screen. Impressed with this kid. Nice cleanup by Sigle in that first drive. 2nd and 3rd level good..... backup-line not so much.
ReplyDeleteThere's Scooter's boy, Mac McCorkle, once again doing Mac McCorkle things!
ReplyDeleteJust remember, Scooter made the case for drafting Mac Jones with the 3rd overall pick!
DeleteFrom the guy that wanted Justin Fields at #3, lol!
DeleteMac Jones: 53.6 (0 TD, 2 INT) Passer Rating thru 2 preseason performances (so far). Justin Fields 108.3 Passer Rating in his first preseason game. Justin Fields is a first string QB in 2025, unlike Mac Jones, who is destined to finish his career playing in Canada!
DeleteAnd this makes Justin Fields a good pick at #3?
DeleteFact is, I didn't like any of the QB's at #3. I liked Fields the best out of all of the QB options, simply because of his upside. Trading all of those 1st round picks for Mac Jones, who was basically projected as a borderline starter, would have made the 49ers a laughing stock. Lucky for them, they found Mr. Irrelevant.
DeleteJones will be a much better fit for the 49ers than Pats and Jags. And while you were very quick to hit post after the INT, he actually played well today.
DeleteFields wouldn't fit this offense at all. Not a fit for a timing based offense.
I hope Puni is ok. We cannot afford to lose him.
ReplyDeleteBethune textbook hit and tackle on Jeanty.
ReplyDeleteBethune has been charging full-bore for the 3rd starting LB spot.
ReplyDeleteMartin may need two years of development before contending for a starter position. His straight-line tackling needs big improvement.
ReplyDeleteHe's going to be a heck of a player once he learns to play with a little more control.
DeleteMartin looks like a future Pro Bowler to me.
ReplyDeleteYep. Not ready yet, but with how fast and active he is, once he gets it he'll be really good.
DeleteI agree. But how long it takes for that to happen is the big question. At the rate of players getting injured
Delete.. injured, I'd be concerned if Martin would need to step in this season.
DeleteMoody you needed that kick, preseason or not you needed that kick and you did well.
ReplyDeleteGreat game and a gritty win! Who says preseason is meaningless!
ReplyDeleteThis game could just be the one the one to make Moody our long time kicker!
Moody, Moody, Moody!
ReplyDeleteOh wait, it's only a preseason game. But hey, a 59 yrd FG is still a nice accomplishment. Good for him.
Any news on Puni yet? Kiner looked really good before getting hurt. If his injury is serious it may save him from getting claimed when the 9ers try to slip him onto the PS. Tonges looked great. Martin looked improved this week. Jeff Wison will be good addition to at least the vet PS. Sounds like Puni will be out for a few weeks possible PCL
ReplyDeleteThis roster might be more heavily influenced by special teams than past years due to the NFL moving the endzone kick to the 35 yard line. Consequently we won't be doing that anymore, and devalues the ability to kick it into the endzone consistently for pretty much all kickers across the league.
