* Apparently Bartch injured himself away from the facility some time between the end of minicamp in June and now, but The 49ers haven't said what the injury is, or the severity of it,. They should provide some clarity on Tuesday when Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch speak to the media?
* If Bartch misses time in TC, who replaces him at L-OG? Spencer Burford is a candidate, but he'll have to play L-OT in practice until Andre Dillard is activated off the PUP List, because TW doesn't participate in 11-on-11 team drills.
* Rookie Connor Colby is also a candidate. Colby went to Iowa, so he fits the 9ers ZBS and may have an opportunity to take a starting job, which is what Dominick Puni did last year in training camp when he was a rookie, and Burford and Jon Feliciano went down.

ReplyDeleteIn regards to Ricky, it seems if he is on the pup list he can report early and work out at the facility and he can come off at any time. So it will be important to note if he comes off the pup at the start of training camp or not.

DeleteI have a feeling even if RP is ready, they will ease him into 11X11s slowly, so realistically might be 2nd week of TC before we see him in pads.
Just means more snaps for Cowing and Watkins, which is good. IMO RP has proved that he is an above average receiver in this system.
The silver lining would be if someone like Knowles or Neyor breaks out considering Aiyuk/Robinson/JJ might all be unavailable for the start of the year.

ReplyDelete* Jauan Jennings participated in individual drills. Media members captured Jennings catching passes and being active with the team. It doesn’t sound like Jennings will partake in any “hold-in” situations, as Brandon Aiyuk did last year.
Shanahan doesn’t sound concerned about Jennings and told Jauan that he should do what’s best for him:
“We know Jauan, and Jauan knows us. I don’t really compare things to other years and other people. People have plans. It’s a business plan. It’s something that I try not to get too worked up about, because there’s not always something that I can do about it.”

ReplyDelete* Gabe Davis, WR: Just one year into his three-year deal, the Jacksonville Jaguars released Gabe Davis after a disappointing 2024 season that ended in a season-ending torn meniscus. A lackluster Jaguars offense didn’t do him any favors, but he still finished with a career-low 20 catches for 239 yards.
Davis is only 26 years old, so he should have plenty of football left in him, even after his injury. He would be best suited in an offense that allows him to maximize his vertical capabilities. That said, keep an eye on some playoff contenders to consider him on a discounted one-year deal before he signs another contract next offseason.
*Amari Cooper, WR: Arguably the top free agent still available, Amari Cooper has a tremendous track record and was a Pro Bowl just two seasons ago. Though he had 1,250 receiving yards in 2023, he dipped down to 547 yards between stints in Cleveland and Buffalo in 2024. Neither team used him as the top target he had previously been.
Cooper deserves a chance at a starting role to prove he still has a lot left in the tank. The five-time Pro Bowl could make sense for WR-needy teams pushing for a deep playoff run like the Denver Broncos and San Francisco 49ers. Likewise, younger teams like the New England Patriots and Las Vegas Raiders could value his veteran leadership.
Jeff Wilson Jr., RB: 2022 was a big year for Jeff Wilson Jr., as he finished with 860 rushing yards between his time with both San Francisco and Miami. Slowly but surely, the Dolphins fazed him out of the offense in favor of players like De’Von Achane, Raheem Mostert, and Jaylen Wright. Wilson had just 16 carries in 2024.
Wilson offers some value as a special-teams coverage player, which could give him an edge over offense-only free agent backs on the market. Teams like the Atlanta Falcons and Chicago Bears could use another RB to compete for a roster spot. Going back to San Francisco might not be out of the question given his scheme familiarity.

I think Amari will get signed after training camp by someone. As he won't count against the cap this year in that scenario.

ReplyDeleteL. Krueger, is reporting that the players that stood out today were Isaiah Neyor, DeMarques Robinson, and Stone Blanton. He also noted that Purdy had good zip on his passes.
ReplyDeleteThe good reports have been BP, M. Jones, the 49ers O on the whole and Mykel Williams. The negative has been the 49ers secondary with the exception of Lenoir. I know it is early but I am a little concerned about the secondary.
ReplyDeleteThey've put a lot of faith in young guys stepping up in the secondary this year. They've had pretty mixed results in the past when they've done the same at other positions. Fingers crossed Green doesn't have a sophomore slump and a couple of other guys emerge.

ReplyDeleteThat's a concern for me as well. It's the teams in our division that will be better prepared this season to go up against players like Green and Puni. If they can at the very least play to last years standard it will pave the way for better days ahead for them.
IMO, It's too early to get concerned with players performing....We'll get better insight, once the pads come on and they've had a week or so to practice. I suspect it will take awhile for the rookies to adjust?

It's important for the players (especially rookies and udfa) to look good anytime they hit the field, whether tackling or non tackling. Sure, once the hitting starts the real football begins. But dating back to mini-camp it's imperative to take advantage of every opportunity. I will say this, after watching Neyor' 50 yrd catch yesterday, it gave me visions of what he could in a real game.

DeleteI expect the rookies to make mistakes, they're rookies. It will take time for them to adjust to the NFL.
What I look for is:
1) Do they learn from their mistakes, or do they continue to make the same mistakes?
2) Does their play continue to improve from one week to the next, and how well do they accept coaching?
The 49ers have week 18 vs. Seahawks scheduled as one of their New Rivalry Uniforms game.
