I've had Walter Nolen as my top iDL from the get go. All Lynch has to do is determine if football means enough to him.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see who the 49ers drafted by this time tomorrow. The media talking-heads are throwing spaghetti at the wall to see if their mock players stick. Daniel Jeremiah is the latest one with the 49ers picking Grey Zabel at #11. Wow, tomorrow can't come soon enough.
ReplyDeleteYep, lots of fun whispers going on at the moment. Almost over.
DeleteDJ is awesome, but I'm not convinced he's plugged into the 49ers. Feels more like a connecting dots situation than inside info thing.
McShay and Schrager both think 49ers will take Nolen if available, based on who they've talked too. Though McShay thinks the Panthers will take Nolen if Walker is gone by 8. Fwiw, I believe Schrager was the most accurate mocker last year. Both he and McShay are very plugged in.
Regardless of what direction the 49ers go, I just hope they don't go into the draft with the idea of playing it safe and just not stuffing it up. You don't build championship rosters playing it safe.
ReplyDeleteThat's not to say they shouldn't take guts that are considered safe prospects, just don't go into it pushing guys up their draft board just because they feel like a guy that won't be a complete bust. Have to still try and find some guys they think could be elite.
Daniel Jeremiah’s final mocks for the 49ers :
ReplyDelete2025: Grey Zabel
2024 : Xavier Worthy
2021: Mac Jones
2020: Justin Jefferson
+ Jeff Gladney
2019: Nick Bosa
2018: Roquan Smith
Quite the track record.
Albert Breer's final mock draft has the 49ers taking Walter Nolen at #11, but has an interesting take on who the "curveball" pick could be:
ReplyDelete"In the end, I think John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan get Robert Saleh and Kris Kocurek the disruptive interior rusher they need—with Javon Hargrave and Maliek Collins gone—and trust they'll be able to light a fire under Nolen, who's ultra-talented and also seen as having a sense of entitlement. But if there's a curveball coming here, keep an eye on McMillan, whose old coach, Jedd Fisch, is a Mike Shanahan disciple."
In PSchrags one and only mock draft, he has the San Francisco #49ers selecting:
ReplyDeleteDL WALTER NOLEN, Ole Miss
“I'd be shocked if Nolen fell out of the top 15 at this point -- he might be the fastest riser in this draft. He's quick, is a people mover and has had a great predraft process. Everyone is focused on Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart, but Nolen is the Rebels' prospect I hear about more. Don't be shocked if he goes before Mason Graham, the more heralded defensive tackle.
The defensive line was once a real strength of the 49ers. It's time to return to that era.”
Yup got to fix the defense, my position mock reflected that. They allowed somewhere around 26 points a game last year. Bring that down to below 20 points a game and the Niners will go to the playoffs.
DeleteIt's Draftmas!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the Countdown, Coach!
Matt Maiocco: 9ers 7 round 2025 mock draft:
ReplyDeletehttps://sports.yahoo.com/article/predicting-11-49ers-2025-nfl-083529354.html
Round 1, No. 11: DT Walter Nolen, Ole Miss
Round 2, No. 43: DE Landon Jackson, Arkansas
Round 3, No. 75: WR Savion Williams, TCU
Round 3, No. 100: CB Quincy Riley, Louisville
Round 4, No. 113: OT Logan Brown, Kansas
Round 4, No. 138: LB Danny Stutsman, Oklahoma
Round 5, No. 147: C Drew Kendall, Boston College
Round 5, No. 160: TE Jalin Conyers, Texas Tech
Round 7, No. 227: S Craig Woodson, Cal
Round 7, No. 249: RB Brashard Smith, SMU
Round 7, No. 252: CB Mello Dotson, Kansas
Damn, Nolen and Jackson would be my dream scenario.
DeleteMatt, filled a lot of holes with this mock. I mentioned WR Savion Williams last month and it's nice to see Maiocco place him in his mock.
ReplyDeleteNice job.
Pretty comical all the Nolen train hoppers when he's been near the bottom of Round 1 and even Round 2 the entire process. Welcome aboard!
ReplyDeleteMason Graham says he wants to lineup against #49ers LT Trent Williams 👀
ReplyDeleteLove that attitude, from Graham. Either Graham, Nolen, and Stewart, I would be happy with. I'm not a fan of Mykel Williams. He is a beneficiary of playing on one of the best defenses in college football. I believe that his stats should have been more impressive, imho.
ReplyDeleteWell, must admit I had thought the 49ers would be scared off by Nolen's attitude, but now seems they are happy with his character. If that's the case he's the pick I'd make at 11, even over Graham. Tbh the only guys I'd personally take over Nolen are Carter and Hunter.
ReplyDeleteWith all due respect, I'm more interested in hearing what Graham has to say AFTER he has lined up against TW, than BEFORE!
ReplyDeleteAs Mike Tyson once said, "Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the face."
That hat bit of wisdom may be apropos here......
GEEP,
DeleteI hear you. If the 49ers draft Graham, he will get in wish in practice.
Good choices. All three would definitely be day 1 starters.
ReplyDeleteTo The Six Or So Keeping This Blog Alive, what difference do the mocks, trade ups and trade backs, picks, and all the rest make? KS is still the damn coach and he ain't taking the 49ers anywhere!
ReplyDelete49reason its better than what you represent. You need to take a chill pill and spill your pity over there at cohn's blog he loves negativity.
Deletex2
DeleteWhere's your blog?
ReplyDeleteI wonder if the person mocking people for being on this blog sees the irony in constantly coming back to spew his vitriol here...
DeleteDuring this time of predictions. One thing remains very predictable - 49reasons.
ReplyDeleteWhoever we draft they had better avoid Union Square.
ReplyDeleteRazor,
DeleteLol!
Lets go boys
ReplyDeleteC'mon Coach, we need winners!
ReplyDeleteTo all you hard-working contributors, I love you.
ReplyDeleteSo despite the trade, the most predicted top 5 players for over a week end up the top 5. Graham doesn't fall.
ReplyDeleteOk, did not expect the Raiders to take Jeanty. Really thought it would be OL.
ReplyDeleteShades of Carroll's love for Percy Harvin?
Deleteor Marshawn Lynch
ReplyDeleteYep, that's my thought.
DeleteWalker or Nolen?
ReplyDeleteMykel Williams, welcome to the 49ers!
ReplyDeleteInitial reaction... they went the safe option.
DeleteJust curious if there were any calls to slide back for someone calling on Sanders......
DeleteYep safe and sound. Welcome aboard, Mykel!
DeleteOuch. I have to learn to warm up to Williams. Kochurek has his work cut-out. But, Mykel is a 49er and I want him to be a big contributor.
DeleteWelcome Mykel Williams.
ReplyDeleteThey have wanted that book end for a long time. Hopefully they now have him.
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised I would have gone with Walter Nolen, Shemar Stewart or Tyler Warren. Williams is a very good to great run defender and an under whelming pass rusher. I was hoping for more of a dominant player. Hopefully Saleh/Kocurek will develop his pass rush. He also played injured for quite a bit last season, so maybe he develops. I wonder if the 49ers will try to move back into the 1st round or up in the 2nd to get a DT. I think a run on DTs may start with Grant.
ReplyDeleteWould be nice to move in front of Philly, if able, if Nolen is still there.......... seeing as Carter fell in their laps.
DeleteI told you Nolen wouldn't get past the Bengels.
ReplyDeleteDon't love having Nolen in the division.
DeleteSneaky Cardinals.
DeleteDip,
ReplyDeleteI love Lynch to make a trade if Nolen is another guy they really like.
Yeah, I agree Scooter.
DeleteBaldinger likes the 49ers pick.
ReplyDeletehttps://x.com/BaldyNFL/status/1915578707907100894
Now i'm worried. I was checking out some Youtube reactions. First Larry Krueger (whose opinion I respect he is a former pro football scout) he hates the pick but what really worries me is that Grant Cohn absolutely loves the pick.
ReplyDeleteMykel Williams looks to be a solid pick. Welcome to the Team...!
ReplyDeleteLarry Krueger : "Mykel Williams is hugely overrated."
ReplyDeleteKrueg, echoes my sentiments, but I hope that I'm wrong about M. Williams.
Truth is no one knows for sure till the rookie deal is done...AES.
DeleteI'm just happy we got a solid starter.
He is solid on setting the edge. With Bosa/Saleh/Kocurek, he will have the best of teachers.
Krug is no match for the combined efforts and talent of the scouting department, GM, Salah, etc. This could turn out to be a great addition that only time will tell.
DeleteYou mean the same brain trust that gave up a boat load of high draft picks for Lance?
DeleteI love listening to Kreug and respect his opinion, but like everyone he gets some wrong and he gets some right.
DeleteAs far as Willisms goes, I somewhat agree with Kreug. He's not a good pass rusher right now. But he's a better athlete than Kreug gives him credit for.
As I said before, he's the safe pick. Excellent run defender with tools to be a good pass rusher.
Google AI states that the 49ers have already made the following picks:
ReplyDeleteRound 1, Pick 11: Mykel Williams, Edge, Georgia
Round 2, Pick 43: Darius Alexander, DT, Toledo
Round 3, Pick 75: Harold Fannin Jr., TE, Bowling Green
Round 3, Pick 100: Ozzy Trapillo, OT, Boston College
Round 4, Pick 113: Zah Frazier, CB, UT-San Antonio
Round 4, Pick 138: Zy Alexander, CB, LSU
Gives me a lot of confidence once AI takes over running the world.
The above comment was mine.
Delete"Williams is a talented edge rusher with rare physical traits," Jeremiah wrote. "When healthy, he has a dynamic get-off and can win early from the edge or when he's reduced inside. He has extremely long arms and blockers struggle to get to his chest. He has a nasty shake/bull move and he also flashes a violent swipe move to generate pressure. Against the run, he still found a way to set a physical edge even when he couldn't put much weight on one leg because of his injury. His effort never wavered. Overall, the 2024 tape isn't a fair representation of Williams' talent. He has game-changing tools when healthy and locked in." -Kirk Larrabee
ReplyDeleteWilliams is apparently still not completely healed from an angle injury according to Krueg. But as LK said, "the production is not there." And that is what has concerned me about Mykel all along. I would not put all my eggs in the basket that Williams is the D1S. But, I certainly welcome anyone to tell me I'm wrong.
ReplyDeleteYou're wrong. 🙂
DeleteLook, maybe YGM technically starts the season, but Williams will get a lot of snaps in 2025, health permitting.
To be a big day 1 contributor at DL you have to defend the run. He does that. And he has sufficient athletic traits to at least trouble OTs at times against the pass while he develops that part of his game.
I can’t tell you that you’re wrong. After all, I’m just a guy sitting on my couch. Drafting is not a science and since I’m not a scientist I rely on the experts who run my favorite team. Pick any topic in the world and you will find a divergence of opinion. I’ll put my trust in the people whose careers depend on making these decisions.
DeleteInteresting observation. Will Johnson was the pick of many for us at 11 and he still hasn’t been picked.
DeleteThat's a good way seeing it, Felix.
DeleteFelix,
DeleteRegarding your 8:00 pm comment.
Lol. That's how to cut to the chase, Scooter. Listening to Lynch's and Shanahan's presser there's no doubt that they coveted Williams all along. I won't doubt their decision. But I will have a wait and see attitude for now.
ReplyDeleteThe Rams are taking a quarterback next year.
ReplyDeleteI'll be rooting for the Falcons to win their division this coming season.
ReplyDeleteWilliams has speed to power. Sets the edge. The rest can be developed over the next 2 years. Still very young. He'll only be 24 when his 5th year option comes up.
ReplyDeleteOkay gentlemen whats the consensus pick for the 49ers in the 2nd round? I see them picking either a DT, O lineman or LB. I wouldn't be disappointed with Darius Alexander or Carson Schwesinger
ReplyDeleteTJ Sanders
DeleteShemar Turner, TJ Sanders, Jaramee Caldwell(iDL)
DeleteLuther Burdon, Kyle Williams, Jaylin Noel, Higgins(WR)
Ozzy Trapilo(OT)
Trey Amos(CB)
Schwesinger, Knight(LB)
After looking at things for a while I wouldn't be surprised if the 49ers don't trade back in the 2nd round (if there are any takers) I think they could get the same value in the mid to late 50s as at 43. My choices would be Darius Alexander DT, T.S. Sanders DT, Aireontae Ersery OL, Tate Ratledge OL, Carson Schwesinger LB.
DeleteGetting 4 picks day 2 would be very nice.
DeleteGetting two DTs, a LB and an OL would be my ideal scenario.
I'm not as high on Darius Alexander as using a 2nd rounder on him though. My favourite DTs of those remaining are TJ Sanders and CJ West. Though could see the team also liking Norman-Lott and Peebles, to name a few.
Would also love to get Chris Paul Jr and/ or Charles Grant.
My smoky choices would be Noel at 43 or Fannin Jr at 75 just in terms adding potential stars even though they are somewhat luxury picks.
"Getting two DTs, a LB and an OL would be my ideal scenario."
Deleteyuppers
I like Sanders and Noel. But I think, the trenches should be prioritized. So it would be DL, OL and TE.
DeleteLuther Burden.
ReplyDeleteMykel Williams' defensive alignment by snaps:
ReplyDeleteB-Gap: 24 snaps
C-Gap: 151 snaps
Wide: 222 snaps
Snaps don't necessarily reflect production. But, the fact that he can move along the Dline could be valuable.
