  1. I thought the first 4 picks should be defense and they didn't disappoint. I'm feeling good about where we're at going into day 3.

  2. As I said in the previous thread, Upton Stout could be K'Wuan Williams 2.0. Here's what Nick Waggoner tweeted:

New #49ers CB Upton Stout is listed at 5’8½” and 181 pounds. He had 21 reps on the bench press, a 37½” vertical jump and ran a 4.44 in 40-yard dash. He's 1 of 2 DBs in '25 with a sub-4.50 time in 40-yard dash and 20+ reps on bench press (with South Carolina S Nick Emmanwori)

    1. He'll fit in nicely with Lenoir. Both scrappy players.

    2. Stout had the most bench press reps of any DB at the combine and hit 19.9 MPH running the gauntlet Which was the fastest of any DB in the history of the combine.

  3. Skattebo is still available. Should we take him with one of our 4th round picks?

    1. Hoping for T/G/C to compete..... maybe BPA DT/Edge for depth and maybe S/CB........ Skattebo has a lot of miles on those wheels - hope they pass on TE and RB til late

  4. I feel like the draft so far has been solid but unspectacular. In particular their first two picks - solid players with some upside. Pretty safe picks.

Weirdly I think the guy that might be the biggest big play guy is the guy they took 75, not 11 or 43. But they also needed to add guys like Williams and Collins to unlock a guy like Martin.

I'm also thinking the defensive philosophy will be changing slightly this year. DL not as focused on getting up field, but more gap integrity as they constrict the pocket and let the back 7 fly around the field.

    1. Agree Scooter- was thinking the same as there seems to be a focus on speed on the backend (as forecasted) and size up front- which they needed due to getting shredded last yr, namely in the A- gap.

I am voting for Shadeur at 113 if he is there. Raiders and Jets have other holes to fill still.

    2. Scooter,
I am a little higher on the top 2 picks then you are. My only real concern is with Collins and his ability to go full games. I think they may need to draft another DT in the 6th round to rotate with Collins maybe J.J. Pegues. I will give the first 3 rounds a A-/B+ grade

    3. Yeah, and I don't mean to sound like I don't like them. I do. As you say, probably not as much as you and some others, but they're good picks. Just not so convinced they are "home run"/ future elite tier player picks. More likely imo to be good rather than great.

Definitely agree they need another DT, and I would take one round 4.

  5. I am hoping for an OT early tomorrow. I think they are pretty confident at G with Bartch, Burford and Zakelj competing. They really need a swing OT especially with the way Williams misses games. I don't think they will do it but I would be happy if they drafted 2 OTs in the 4th round to compete for the job. Anyone know if there are any decent FA OTs still out there?

  6. One pretty huge question mark I still have is where is the pass rush coming from in 2025?

They have replaced Hargrave, Collins and Floyd, all noted pass rushers, with Williams and Collins, two noted run defenders.

I think it is a lot to ask of Williams to be a big time pass rush threat in 2025, given he is still very much a work in progress in that department.

Something tells me we still have a couple of DL picks to come on day 3.

    1. Scooter,
I have to agree with you about the D line not being scary as a pass rush unit. I see Saleh being creative in getting pass pressure. #1 I think the focus will be on pressures not sacks when it comes to the D line. Controlling running QBs far better than they have in the past. Although Saleh hasn't been much of a blitzer in the past I think he is a good enough Coordinator to make needed adjustments. I see much more strategic blitzing. Both Martin and Stout have been very successful at blitzing and Warner was an especially good blitzer in college but hasn't been used that way as a pro. The key to great blitzing is creating open blitz lanes hopefully Saleh, Koceruk and Bradley will do a good job with that.

  7. Would really like to get another DT with their first pick in the fourth round. Then two O lineman, then have some fun, WR, S, RB, TE.

  8. Imperative that the 49ers select one of the following at pick #113:

    C.J. West DT Indiana
    Bhayshul Tuten RB Virginia Tech
    Chris Paul LB Ole Miss

Unfortunately, ten teams are in front and they may all be gone.

On The Edge

If Nick Bosa can get a modicum of consistent pressure from the opposite side he could end up having another Defensive Player of the Year aw...
