DeleteCan't get on board with Alexander this high. He's a small school product that is older and didn't really come on until last year. Also not as quick off the snap as his testing would suggest, so not sure how Kocurek will feel about him.
Happy to take a day 3 flyer on the traits and what he did in 2024, but not a day 2 pick for me.

* Of the 3, IMO, Alexander is the better penetrator. Collins is, the biggest (6' 6" X 332) and better at taking on double teams

DeleteI suspect my comments are being taken a little out of context. I was very high on Alexander leading into the Senior Bowl, and what he did there only strengthened my opinion of him. But at that time he was considered a day 3 talent. I really like him as a late 3rd/ early 4th round option.
I just think taking an older guy from the MAC who only really started to dominate that level of competition last year is a huge risk in round 2.

It wouldn't be my choice but with 2 or 3 quality CBs still available I could see the 49ers pulling the trigger on one if they stay at 43.

DeleteCollins is interesting. The traditional cover 3 D utilized by Seattle in which Salah cut his teeth, utilized a single 2 gapper along side multiple penetrating, single gap Dlinemen. It also commonly utilized a single edge in a wide alignment.

DeleteMykel Williams is just 20. He is still going to fill out and he wants to be an every down player. Baldy has him as the 2nd best edge rusher in this draft after Carter. Also, he played most of last year with a high ankle sprain.
Collins is one of those Blue Collar players who is relentless and has exceptional work ethic.
With just these two additions, we should have our next wave of young leaders in the D along with Demo/Green.
We still need a good Free Safety and a solid WLB. But I'm very excited with what we have done so far.
All we need now is for KS to not get distracted with shiny new objects and waste a pick on an RB in the 3rd round. :)

DeleteMartin reminds me of Fred Warner coming out of college. He has great coverage skills. Lack of LB coverage skills killed us last season as well as in the SB after Greenlaw went down. If he didn't have knee issues last season as well as in high school I would give this pick an A+ grade. So far I believe this is an A- draft.

My concern with him more than size is he seems to get banged up quite a bit. Not major injuries but nagging injuries. I give this pick a B/B+. I would love to see them pick 2 O linemen in the 4th round one G one OT
