  1. I'm hoping a run on wr's and qb's pushes down a nice 3t or even a 2i to us.

    ReplyDelete
  2. Lynch emphasized that Williams possesses many of the traits the 49ers highly value—most importantly, his character.

Probably is why Nolen is not a Niner - character.

Hopefully Niners continue on the defensive side of the ball. DL and a linebacker would be nice.

  3. Well, since I slightly was off on Will Johnson (ah, way off), I'll take another shot at 43.

Turner should be available in Rd #3?

      Delete
  5. Rd #1) 9ers have drafted their DE,
Rd #2) The 9ers need to address DT and draft one of these 3.
    * Darius Alexander, DT, Toledo
    * Alfred Collins, DT, Texas
    * TJ Sanders, DT, Florida State

    1. Collins is a no go for me. Bad fit for this scheme imo. True NT, should play in a scheme that let's him suck up blockers.

And posted my thoughts on Alexander below.

Guys I think are best fits are TJ Sanders, CJ West, Omarr Norman-Lott, Aeneas Peebles, Jamaree Caldwell and Jordan Phillips.

I don't disagree with your opinion for DT's, but my post was DT draft picks for Rd #2, at draft pick #43.

      Delete
    3. Sure. And imo Collins and Alexander are not good ideas for that pick 43.

      Delete
  6. Razor and Geep agree on TJ Sanders, I keep hearing Darius Alexander.

    1. TJ Sanders is definitely the way I'd go. Followed by CJ West.

Can't get on board with Alexander this high. He's a small school product that is older and didn't really come on until last year. Also not as quick off the snap as his testing would suggest, so not sure how Kocurek will feel about him.

Happy to take a day 3 flyer on the traits and what he did in 2024, but not a day 2 pick for me.

DT Alexander is my first choice at Rd #2, draft pick #43. DT Sanders is my 3Rd choice.
      * Of the 3, IMO, Alexander is the better penetrator. Collins is, the biggest (6' 6" X 332) and better at taking on double teams
      and plugging up the middle.

      Delete
  7. Ok, sounds like it should be DJ Sanders to me.

  8. Out of curiosity razor, where do those players rankings you posted come from? Just strange for me to see a ranking I actually broadly agree with! 🤣

    * While Scooter is entitled to his opinion, Alexander was named the top defensive lineman at the Senior Bowl in a vote by the offensive linemen participating in the practices.
His combination of size, athleticism, and play strength has drawn comparisons to Chiefs All-Pro defensive tackle Chris Jones.

    * Alexanders Combine results:
    4.95s 40 (tied for 5th).... 10-yard split 1.72s (tied for 4th).
    28 reps of 225 pounds for bench press......31 1/2" Vertical..(11th)
    9' 3" broad Jump (10th)....3-cone in 7.60 s and shuttle in 4.79s
3-cone in 7.60 seconds and the shuttle in 4.79.
RAS (Relative Athletic Score) Out of 10, Alexander’s RAS was determined to be a 9.72.
I suspect any DL coach, including 9er D-Line coach, Kocurek, would
be happy to have Alexander play for him!

    1. I'd hope a guy turning 25 this year can make an impression against guys that are 21.

I suspect my comments are being taken a little out of context. I was very high on Alexander leading into the Senior Bowl, and what he did there only strengthened my opinion of him. But at that time he was considered a day 3 talent. I really like him as a late 3rd/ early 4th round option.

I just think taking an older guy from the MAC who only really started to dominate that level of competition last year is a huge risk in round 2.

    2. Scooter
As I said, you are entitled to your opinion, as we all are! As for taking your comments out of context:
Facts are facts! If you disagree that my post contained fact that aren't true, please post them.

      Delete
    3. The out of context part is I suspect you think I don't like him or rate him. That's not true. Rd 2 is just too rich for my blood.

      Delete
    4. Scooter
"YOU SUSPECT?" As I said previously, you are entitled to your opinion and I am entitled to mine! I backed my opinion up with facts, not feelings.
      * I SUSPECT you don't like me disagreeing with your opinion? So lets agree to disagree!

    5. Scooter
Would you care to explain WHY you think that it's laughable?

      Delete
    6. It's funny to me because I actually love that you disagree with my opinion. That's what makes things like the draft fun.

It's also funny to me because you make out like I didn't support my opinion with facts. That I'm basing my opinions only on feelings. And used a comment out of context to create that strawman, after me saying I thought you were taking my thoughts on Alexander a little out of context.

      Delete
    7. Scooter
"It's also funny to me because you make out like I didn't support my opinion with facts."  psychological projection!"
      * Show me where I posted.... "I make out like you didn't support your opinion with facts! Opinions are opinions and nothing more. I posted facts, you posted ageism, that he's
somehow not qualified because he's 25 y/o? How old Is TW and how old are the DE he goes up against? Prejudice is prejudice regardless of age.
      * "I'd hope a guy turning 25 this year can make an impression against guys that are 21. The definition of Ageism!

      Delete
    8. You inferred it by saying you were using facts as an argument against what I said.

Age and physical development/ maturity is a fact. And a grown man in his mid 20s going up against a guy in their early 20s matters. Heck, Lynch and Shanahan said as much in the post Williams selection presser.

      Delete
  10. It wouldn't be my choice but with 2 or 3 quality CBs still available I could see the 49ers pulling the trigger on one if they stay at 43.

I agree, but the 9ers could also take a LB. They need to draft both positions.

      Delete
  11. The lads at Underdog Football (Josh Norris and Hayden Winks) think the 49ers could double dip from Georgia at 43 and take center Jared Wilson.

Elite athlete for the position. Would be an interesting addition for the future.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I'm gonna say it's TJ Sanders and then Femi at 75 if still on the board and Logan Brown at 100.

  14. 49ers GM John Lynch, has stated that he and head coach Kyle Shanahan are pleased with Jake Brendel's performance and that they don't see the center position as a major need.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Yep. Taking a center would be a surprise and not one for this year. But would be interesting for the future.

      Delete
    2. Hennessy has experience at center. He could compete with Brendel, but will likely be OG back up

    1. Why not? I like Collins. One of the best run defenders at 330lbs. The theme of this draft is stopping the run.

Only downside is that He had a calf strain recently.

      Delete
    2. Collins if healthy between Bosa and Williams looks intiguing to me. I like the idea and am open to seeing how it plays out. Kocurek has to produce now or he's likely out next year.

      Delete
    3. Fit. He's a true NT. Don't think he offers much as a penetrating DT.

But, if Saleh is wanting to switch things up a bit and use a NT to occupy blockers and free up the LBs then it's a good pick.

      Delete
    4. Niners had a great defense when DJ Jones was the nose tackle. Went down hill once he left. Maybe they realize they really need a nose tackle.

      Delete
    5. I think they are looking at the DL holistically.

Who we can pair up with whom, to have maximum menacing impact

      Delete
    6. Yea, he doesn't exhibit that first step suddeness but laterally hes quick. Gets his hands on passes too. I think he'll be alright.

      Delete
  20. 2 down iDL. Had a calf strain. Good run stuffer.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Collins with nearly 35" arms. I'm sensing a theme here. Long levers.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Collins and an improved Evan Anderson next to each other should keep every body off of Warner. Collins, Elliot, Anderson and Givens not a bad foursome. I think they might go for another edge before a tackle. I think his pass rush ability is a little better than most here think.

    ReplyDelete

    1. I have no problem with it. I actually like it. He's got some upside.

      Delete
    2. * Looks like we were wrong on TJ Sanders. Saleh and Kocurek drafted Collins, a DT that can shut down the run. Something the 9er D-line couldn't do last season and cost them games
      * I also believe the wide 9 will help Williams produce sacks and a healthy Collins is a better penetrator than expected.

      Delete
  23. Gonna be a run on edge here soon.

    ReplyDelete
  24. 3rd round picks? LB, CB WR or TE

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. My guess.... Harold Fanin Jr /Jaylin Noel or Chris Pooh Paul (if he lasts that long).

We need another pass catching threat besides our WRs/TEs

      Delete
  25. Pick 100 is gonna be Norman-Lott.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Oh yeah, can definitely see him or Peebles being added.

      Delete
    2. They gotta add a 3t to rotate with Givens.

      Delete
  26. Alfred Collins had an 87.2 overall grade last year at Texas, including 85.0 vs. the run, with 21 run stops. Collins had just two missed tackles all season.

    ReplyDelete
  27. The theme thus far, shut down the run outside and shut it down inside.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Well, can't say I love the first two picks, but easy to see the plan and thinking. Both excel in run defense and are power based guys. Both are pretty "safe" picks in that it's hard to see either guy not at least providing decent level snaps as run defenders.

Still... while there's upside, not sure either guy is ever going to provide elite level pass rush ability.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Femi goes right about where Pauline had him going. Interviews really inflated his stock.

  31. Collins is interesting. The traditional cover 3 D utilized by Seattle in which Salah cut his teeth, utilized a single 2 gapper along side multiple penetrating, single gap Dlinemen. It also commonly utilized a single edge in a wide alignment.
It will be interesting to see how Salah will continue to evolve this defense but its clear their goal is to stop the run first and foremost.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Still need a 3t before the night is over.

      Delete
    2. That's a good point Shoup. Maybe they are wanting to use a more traditional big 1T/2i (Collins) next to a bigger DE that can reduce to a 5T/6T (Williams) in an under front like the Seahawks used to employ, to mix things up.

      Delete
    3. For Sure. I was in agreement with Scooter in terms of preferring Sanders but that was because I thought it was easier to locate a Run stopper with CJ West, Broughton, Toia and Phillips. Now someone like Norman Lott becomes far more intruiging for me.

      Delete
  32. We in good hands with Saleh and Gus.

    1. Yes, I agree.

Mykel Williams is just 20. He is still going to fill out and he wants to be an every down player. Baldy has him as the 2nd best edge rusher in this draft after Carter. Also, he played most of last year with a high ankle sprain.

Collins is one of those Blue Collar players who is relentless and has exceptional work ethic.

With just these two additions, we should have our next wave of young leaders in the D along with Demo/Green.

We still need a good Free Safety and a solid WLB. But I'm very excited with what we have done so far.

All we need now is for KS to not get distracted with shiny new objects and waste a pick on an RB in the 3rd round. :)

  44. Martin reminds me of Fred Warner coming out of college. He has great coverage skills. Lack of LB coverage skills killed us last season as well as in the SB after Greenlaw went down. If he didn't have knee issues last season as well as in high school I would give this pick an A+ grade. So far I believe this is an A- draft.

    1. Looking good to me too. Biggest issue on defense was outside containment opposite Bosa, soft underbelly and a WLB that couldn't cover TE's.

    2. I see him more like Greenlaw/ Al-Shaair, but yeah, definitely a Saleh type LB.

      Martin had an impressive Combine! He posted a 4.53s 40. A 1.54s 10 yard split....A 38" vert jump....A 10' 3" B-Jump and benced 26 reps at 225 pounds despite the earlier leg injury.

  50. I think Martin is somewhat of a reach due to his injury, but I can understand Saleh/Holland prioritizing sideline-sideline speed.

We are the LB factory of the NFL. So as long as we get the production of close to Al-Shair/G-Law or worse-case ST play DFF, we should be good for this year.

  56. Stout is a great NB. Size will be an issue but if he can play as well as Eric Davis who was 5'9" it will be a great pick. He is also a great returner and can play safety. My concern with him more than size is he seems to get banged up quite a bit. Not major injuries but nagging injuries. I give this pick a B/B+. I would love to see them pick 2 O linemen in the 4th round one G one OT
