Day 2 Picks

Pick 64 - Renardo Green, CB, Florida St. led the ACC with 14 pass breakups last season and allowed only one catch of more than 20 yards on the whole season. Also no missed games over past 2 seasons. Lenoir and Green should be our starting cb's next year. Held Malik Nabers to 2 catches, 1 PBU & snagged him an INT. 🔥

Pick  86 - Dominick Puni, OG, Kansas moved up from FCS to FBS. Once at Kansas, he made 25 straight starts at tackle and guard and didn't allow a single sack (nearly 1,600 snaps).

  1. Has anyone here, hit on a player that you had in your mock? I didn't do a mock, but of the potential players, I liked, not one has been picked by the 49ers. Theo Johnson, Trevin Wallace and Geurrendo are still available on day 3.

  2. I think Scooter has. Still got 6 more picks!

    1. No, I didn't have any of the players they've taken. Really thought they'd go OL or DL round 1 and so never even really considered Pearsall. And while I thought they'd get a DB early I had them taking Bullard.

Thought Puni would go late round 2/ early round 3, so again didn't consider him much for the 49ers.

  3. Puni was one of the 6 or 7 visits that went unreported.

  4. LIKE FINE WINE, THEY LET IT AGE:
With RG Feliciano retiring and LG Banks an UFA in 2025, when the 9ers did finally get around to drafting an OG/T they took Puni. With a year in the gym and coaching by Forester, he should be capable of taking over at OG, or if needed, at RT.

  5. I think rounds 1 and 3 are future picks while round 2 will compete for a spot this year. I believe they are set at CB this year and should be pretty damn good. Puni will be a valuable back up this year and hopefully will step into the starting RG or C in 25. I'm still a little unhappy with them picking a WR in the 1st round. I like Pearsall's skill set and he will be a quality slot WR in 25 after the 9ers release Deebo. I just don't think they should be drafting for the future with their 1st round draft pick. I would be ecstatic with this draft if they had drafted an OT, S or DT with their 1st round pick.

    1. I really think Pearsall will have a much bigger role than you envisage in year 1.

    2. Scooter,
I just can't see how. I don't see them running a whole lot less and with Deebo, Aiyuk, Jennings, Kittle, Juice and CMC sharing the receptions how many can we expect for Pearsall? Who's targets will he get? Now in 25 I see Deebo gone as well as Jennings and possibly Juice they may need another WR to go along with Pearsall. Who knows maybe they draft another WR this year but I doubt it.

    3. More empty backfields I'm thinking. Pearsall can literally line up anywhere.

    4. Yeah, I think the biggest losers from taking Pearsall are the backup TE... and Juice.

I am expecting we'll see more 11 personnel this season. Pearsall will split this 3rd WR role with Jennings I suspect.

The 49ers also like to rotate their WRs a bit, and I think Pearsall will be the guy that primarily rotates in this year when one of Deebo or Aiyuk take a play off.

  6. The more I read on the draft picks....the more I like them!! Especially Puni and Green.

We should have the strongest CB group of this regime so far. But have to address interior DL in the next pick.

Run stopping DT, Safety, Run setting Edge and TE (maybe an UDFA?) are the biggest needs IMHO now.

On a side note, I definitely think Womack gets cut or traded and I hope Tashaun Gipson is not retired. We might need him again this year.

  7. Matt Miller,
"The No. 76 overall player on my board, Puni is a plug-and-play starter at guard who had experience at tackle in college,"

I honestly wasn't familiar with Puni. I gave attention to the top OL guys thinking that the 49ers might grab one. But if Miller feels that Puni can become a D1S, he must be pretty good. But, who will he start over? Are all current OL player not named Trent Williams susceptible to being replaced in 2024?

    1. I think any spot other than LT is open to some level of competition in camp, but the right side in particular. But we also know the 49ers value continuity on the OL, so it won't be easy to win a spot.

One thing to keep in mind though - the 49ers have done something very unusual in recent years with Burford which I can't recall seeing on an OL previously, which is to rotate him into the lineup while he learns the ropes. It could be a case that Puni gets some of the same treatment if he shows he deserves game time.

  8. That makes sense, Scooter. Puni will likely be brought in patiently. Green may have a better chance of getting more snaps than Puni, but not as a starter.

    1. Yeah, I think Green has a better chance of earning a lot of snaps. But I think all 3 guys have the ability to push themselves into a role and getting a decent amount of snaps.

  9. Interesting... how about this for a comparison for Pearsall.

Those measurables are eerily similar to Pearsall... with Pearsall slightly better. If he has a career like Sanders he'll be a great pick.

  10. Day 3 needs DT, DE, S, TE, OT and RB. Players left from my 3 mocks Beau Brade S Mary, Jordan Jefferson DT LSU, Cedric Gray LB UNC, Tyrone Tracy RB Purdue, F. Gore Jr. RB S. Miss, Isaac Guerendo RB Loius, Eric Watts DE U Conn, Jaylen Harrell DE Mich, Myles Cole DE Tex Tech, Javon Solomon DE Troy. I checked back on my mocks and I had the 9ers taking Renardo Green in the 3rd round.
