Week 10 Matchup: San Diego Chargers vs. San Francisco 49ers

Good evening everyone. Hope y'all had a good week off and are charged up for some Sunday Night Football. The 49ers enter the fracas with some familiar names that have been missing in action, Mitchell, Al-Shaair, and Juice to name a few. The Chargers defense is similar to the Rams defense, and I expect a healthy portion of 49ers OZ served up with little to no meat left on the bones in this one. As Scooter pointed out in his excellent preview, the 49ers are a bit soft in the middle with the absence of Armstead and Kinlaw, however the return of Al-Shaair along with a healthy Greenlaw should fill any holes quickly. Go Niners!

    2. That was a good game, Geep. I'm getting used to these 9am games on Sunday.

    3. Under, we need this win and then we gotta go take care of business south of the border.

I agree, especially when Seattle loses!

  2. We have more talent for sure but they got a great young QB. But I feel we are about to roll into the 2nd half of the season and into the playoff. It starts tonight!

  4. Niners haven't won against the Chargers this century! Time to change that.

  5. Man, that was far too easy for the Chargers. Ryans better right the ship.

  6. Herbert looking like the prototypical QB out there. If Lance is even 70% of Herbert by year 3, I will take it.

Every time Mitchell gets tackled, I hold my breath.

Hope Huf plays with more awareness and D hold up.

    1. I will trade anybody in our team to get a Herbett type QB. They can have anyone!

  7. I was hoping the B team would stay home but at the moment it is making its appearance on both sides of the ball.

  8. Not impressed with the play calling. Shanny and Ryans need to make adjustments.

    1. Whenever the 49ers clearly outmatch a team they find a way to make the game competitive. If only we could play the Lambs every game.

    2. It's amazing how they continue to beat themselves.

  10. I'm praying now that the Chargers somehow "Charger" the game and we eke out a win. :)

    D has found its stride.

O needs to step up this drive. Go back to running the ball please. Please don't abandon the run.

  11. That was a great throw on the run by Jimmy G. to Ray Ray.

    1. Yeah...one of his best.

Hopefully Offense has woken up now! Go Niners!

    2. Can't believe New York went along with it. Stupid call beyond belief.

  13. The game's going pretty much the way I feared. You can give Kyle an All-pro offensive line-up but it will still start slow with various parts creaking and groaning.

I expected the Chargers to sell out for stopping the run and that's pretty much what they are doing. The passing game is underperforming. Hopefully they settle down in the second half. Maybe need more screens or swing passes or whatever it takes to get the balls into the playmakers' hands.

    1. KS passing game has been anemic most of the year. Dont know why if it is the scheme or JG or combo. Ugh

    2. Depressing that Brandon Staley out-schemed Kyle and DeMeco in first half.

  14. Excellent, start off with a swing pass to CMac

  15. Damn, Aiyuk trying to lose this game for the Niners...

    1. He has literally cost 7 pts already. 3 on the Fumble and -4 off the TD.

  17. With all the talent we have in the offense one thing missing is that WR with great hsnds. Crabtree was probably the lsst one...

  18. McGlinch doing his usual turnstile act against good pass rushers

    1. Not confident that a nasty attitude will compensate for his inability to sink his hips quickly to anchor, or move laterally quickly.

  19. We should be dominating this game!

  20. Kyle spent a 3rd round pick on a RB, two years in a row, and yet Kyle still needs to trade an additional FOUR draft picks for yet another RB, and they STILL can’t run the football or score points, AT HOME, against a team with a lousy run defense!

    JOY!

All I know is that Bill Walsh must be rolling in his grave by now!

  21. Sooooo, KS has been 1 - 25 ehen entering the 4th when down 3 pts or more. Please make it 2 - 25🙏

  22. Imagine where this team would be without John Lynch, DeMeco Ryans, and Robert Salleh?

I should go back and rank Kyle's offenses, VS his defenses during his tenure. His DC's, along with JL, deserve most of the credit for both of those deep playoff runs.

  23. Excellent catch and run by Jennings.

  24. Has there been any improvement in special teams this year?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Hammer just tweeted that Purdy was firing passes to BA during the TV timeout and then he makes the catch to get the 49ers on the two.

  26. About time we lead.
One last stand needed from the D.
Don't leave the ball in Herberts hands. He is too good to not close out the game.

  27. Heavy dose of McCarffery and Mitchel

  28. Kyle is coaching this 4th QTR like a COWARD!

    1. It puts unfair pressure on Jimmy G to constantly bail them out on third and longs.

  30. Happy for the victory but the Niners still have work to do.

  31. You'll never hear anyone use the term "well-oiled machine" when referring to the 49ers. They won, but not in a convincing fashion given the opponent.

    ReplyDelete
  32. A win is a win but that is too close for a team missing a bunch of starters. The offense unless playing the RAMs is just not firing in all cylinders.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Despite the offense's performance, Jimmy G. has been playing well and has really minimized the turnovers. No doubt Brian Griese has helped in this regard.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Nice play by Dline/Huf to close out the game. Overall excellent performance from D. Was impressed with No 75 on his first game back. Much needed depth on the D-line.

Glad that we got the win...but if they play like this, we won't even get to the playoffs.

Phily, Cowboys, Giants, Vikings, Seahawks, Bucs all playing good ball now and Packers looked decent tonight too. So we better clean up the mistakes on Offense.

    ReplyDelete
  35. On the plus side Mitchel looked really good.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Chargers were a 5-3 team and they fought hard with a defensive head coach who's very familiar with this offense. I give credit to the 49ers for persevering to overcome their mistakes. Good win!

    ReplyDelete
  37. We need to get Deebo involved more in the passing game.

    1. With so many mouths to feed (and nearly not everyone getting enough touches), I don't understand what OBJ will do in this team.

      Delete
  38. Please no to OBJ. We have others areas that could use some help.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Injuries, none to report from the game, apparently Gray rolled his ankle pregame.

  40. JUST MY TWO CENTS WORTH:
“We were killing ourselves in the first half and we knew it,” Garoppolo told NBC’s Melissa Stark after the game. “Especially offensively, we were killing ourselves with mistakes. Once we cleaned those up, I thought we put together some good drives and put some points on the board.”

There you have it! That explains why the 9ers are 5W - 4L, rather than 9W - OL......
Once the 9er offense cleaned up the mistakes (in the 2nd half), they won the game......

The only team that's beat the 9ers, is the 9ers.........
