    2. Oh, he's playing Sunday. How much? Probably mostly just redzone stuff this week.

  2. Wow! Stunner not sure if I like it but you have to give credit to the front office for trying to help the team.

    1. That's a lot for a player who has high injury, should fit right in.

  4. Welcome back, CMac!

Deebo and CMac together in the backfield! Halloween nightmare for DC's!

I'll bet Kyle has already drawn up a handful of plays for him.

  5. Remember the positive effect picking up Sanders had on this team back in 2019. Lets hope CMac can stay healthy.

    1. CMac is a pro's pro. He was a leader in the Stanford locker in his freshman year. His work ethic and attention to details is well-known.

    2. As long as he doesn't end up like McKinnon we're good.

      Delete
    3. His current deal is seemingly less than what McKinnon was paid.

  6. CMac was rated by many as the best route runner in the 2017 draft ahead of the receivers. In retrospect he'd still be in the top 5 route runners in the 2017 re-draft, IMO. Cooper Kupp, of course, is the #1.

  7. Not a fan of this move. We got Fleeced. :( The Panthers better eat most of his salary. Does not make any financial sense otherwise...so much draft capital for a guy who gets injured as much as...hmm...Elijah Mitchell?

    RB picks for 49ers:
2021 3rd Round pick - Trey Sermon (With the Iggles now)
2022 3rd Round - TDP - Now will be 4th on the Depth chart and possibly inactive for the rest of the season.
    2023 2nd Round/2023 3rd Round/2023 4th Round/2024 5th Rounder - Christian McCaffrey.

This means we have invested 6 mid-round picks for effectively 2 players. Not good business.

I can think of 3 reasons why we made this move:

    1) To prevent the Rams from making the same exact move.
    2) Knee jerk reaction to last game's fumble by Jeff Wilson Jr.
    3) Maybe pressure from Yorks who didn't like the Egg we laid at Atlanta?

This move seems so unlike the JL/KS regime.

  8. I posted this yesterday

"I think the real problem is the talent at the RB position,..."

I guess the Niners were thinking along them lines.

  10. This is a big time move by the 49ers. CMC is the perfect skillset at RB for what Shanahan wants to do. Very concerned about the injury history, but if healthy he can be a heck of a weapon.

    1. CMac has played 85% of Panther's offensive snaps this season -- the most by any RB in the league.

  11. He also averages 113 scrimmage yards per game (6th most all time). He's an incredible player.

  12. 49ers now have 6 legitimate elite talents on the roster - Williams, Bosa, Kittle, Warner, Deebo and CMC. Plus a bunch of really good players. If they can stay healthy there is no excuse for not being a contender.

  14. Hope receipts are being kept.

Draft capital is nice but do you think LA would like their draft picks back given up for guys like Stafford & Von Miller (Think obj was a f/a) or would they rather have the ring?

LAs problem is they have aging talent and not enough young guys, unlike the Niners who have done a good job finding guys after the 1st, like Banks.

    1. The Rams lack depth behind their starters because they cost so much in both salary and draft capital. It got them a Super Bowl but it may be time to pay the piper.

A private jet took off from Charlotte an hour ago. It's scheduled to land in San Jose at 10:46 a.m. There's an excellent chance that Christian McCaffrey is on board, and he'll arrive at the 49ers' facility in time to meet his teammates and maybe swing by practice/walkthru today

  16. Is CMC a rental? If so, that is a lot of draft capital for him. Of course winning the SB makes zero difference if he is a rental or not.

    ReplyDelete

    1. No. He has cap hits of just 12M a year for the next 3 years (this year is only 650k to the 49ers cap).

He's not an UFA until 2026.

      Delete
    2. Might be a restructure next year.

      Delete
    3. Absolutely not a rental. $12M a year for the next 3 years after this season is cheap given the flexibility he provides. I mean, Deebo is literally twice the cost to provide a similar skillset.

    4. Kyle made it clear on KNBR this morning that CMac is not on one-year rental.

  17. I have a mixed feelings about this. IMHO, we have more than enough talent in the skilled position and I would rather spent more improving the Oline but what do I know. Last year, we were outbid by the RAMS for the Stafford trade and it worked out for them. And now we apparently outbid them and if we win it all this year then who cares. Just bring that 6th SB here! If not and we get bounced early in the playoff then KS and JL will be in a hot seat. They are going all in and I hope it all works out for us.

    1. Ricardo, one way of looking at it is as contingency. If Deebo got hurt the 49ers had nobody able to provide what he does as a WR and RB combo. Now they do.

      Delete
    2. That is true. I think nobody can argue the tallent that CMC brings in to the game. And you pair him with KS system, man that is lethal and definitely his value as an added insurance just in case we have a an injury. But that is the part that also scares me, the fact that he missed a ton of games the last 2 years with injuries. The last thing we need is an injured riddle player. But here is hoping we get the CMC version that played the 1st 3 years.

  19. Jordan Eliot has a great comparison of CMac to Faulk
    https://twitter.com/splash_cousin/status/1583558966348378112

Interestingly, Kyle made the comparison to Faulk in 2017 after Panthers drafted CMac.

    1. It's a great comp. CMC is the closest match to Faulk we've seen since Faulk retired. Both players could legitimately have made careers as receivers, but also excellent RBs. And as Jordan Elliott points out, like Faulk, CMC gets to leave a bad team after 5 years where he was the main weapon and teams didn't worry much about other threats to go to a top tier team full of weapons. If he can stay healthy... this really has a chance of being a great addition.

    2. He goes from a Ben McAdoo offense to Shanny's, lol.

  20. I like this better than the Lance trade...

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Correct, I was just looking at it like I do the Lance deal. Only difference for me is CMC has done it and at one time I had rated him as a top 20 player in the NFL. Still a lot of draft capital...The Niners are in a win now mode...Nothing short of a SB appearance is acceptable...injuries can change everything.

    2. It's a risky move, but no risk it, no biscuit. I'll feel better when Armstead and Kinlaw get back.

      Delete
    3. I was thinking maybe Kinlaw doesn't come back.

    4. I'd be shocked if that were the case. From what I gathered it was expected at some point in the season, and that both should be good to go after the bye.

    1. That 94 team and Barry will be unstoppable in any era! Youn, Jerry and Barry in the same team should be illegal.😊

    2. Barry on the niners would have been Emmitt on Dallas...but add another 1k yards per year for Barry.

I always think about just how ridiculous his stats would have been playing with a team as talented as the niners. As it was he averaged more ypa than Smith, he'd have easily have had 1 to 2 more ypa had he been in SF.

      Delete
  23. CMac has good memories of Levis. This is where he broke Barry Sanders’ single-season all-purpose yards record in the 2015 Pac-12 Championship Game victory over USC, where he racked up 461 all-purpose yards.

  24. I am sure they are going to design a few plays for CMC for tomorrows game.
