I don't expect to see forty-four runs. Twenty to twenty five is more in line unless the Jags can't stop it. I can see Jimmy G having his finest day as a Pro with Deebo, Aiyuk and Kittle running wild. Jags pass defense is the worst in the NFL. Shanny do not disregard the run!!!
Going to be an interesting game plan. I like Scooters idea to use Lance in the running game if they're not sold on Sermon, because Wilson is coming off the injury. They may want him on a snap count. Go Niners!
High risk for a game that should be easily won by the Niners. However the Niners are pretty much in the have to win mode so if it takes Lance then it takes Lance.
I can see Cullen selling out to stop the run on early downs a la Vance Joseph. Then it will be more Jimmy throwing the ball.
IIRC, they focused on stopping Bills' passing game and daring them to run. Bills, of course, have very little in the run game.
I don't think that Kyle will use Lance to supplement Sermon.
I am sure Kyle has some situational packages for Lance. It's a question of whether these situations (down & distance, matchups, position on field, score difference & quarter) will arise today.
I put my money on Niners straight up. Will the Niners cover the spread?
That was one of my concerns regarding Wilson's fumbling issues early on in his career. I know Scooter doubted Mitchell's specialness, but aside from his yac, he has displayed the ultimate in ball security. That's the big loss at the position today folks.
Mood, Jags are selling out to stop the run yet the 49ers stuck with it that drive. And that's without Mitchell.
Still think Shanahan feels he was right to abandon the run vs the Cardinals? Everything we have seen since indicates he realises how important it is to stay with the run even if it is tough sledding.
IIRC, the first Niners' offensive play was a pass. The Niners could afford to persist with the run because (1) they played with a lead and with their full array of run blockers (except McGlinchey) and the Jags' D committing critical penalties on 3rd downs, and (b) Niners' D throttled the Jaguars' offensive.
Niners could not afford to have their 2 RBs combine for 29 runs and 82 yards (as they did today) against the Cardinals while Colt McCoy and the Arizona D were carving up the Niners D like Thanksgiving turkey.
Mood, the opening few drives were all heavily skewed towards the run once again. Well before the game was out of hand.
And can't use the excuse of defensive alignment for sticking to the run this week, which was pretty flimsy last week anyway as the Rams consistently stacked the box even if it was a 3-4 front.
Seems pretty clear Shanahan realises it was a mistake to try and pass so much against the Cardinals, even if it made a certain kind of sense strategically.
Perhaps he didn't want to admit to Sermon's lack of explosiveness.... and Wilson doesn't seem back to his old self either. I would like to see Lenoir and Lance get some reps... and Sermon.
That's an easy one. The plan was Mostertrati and when he went down after a few snaps, there was obviously a void left behind. Then you account for the development, and practice; that takes time to implement.
All I know is this offense is a lot better when it gets the ball in the hands of its playmakers, and Deebo is their most explosive playmaker with Mostert injured.
IMO, I don't think Kyle will overuse Deebo as a running back routinely like he did today (8 carries) in Mitchell's absence. Maybe in a playoff game.
Deebo is just too valuable. Kyle doesn't want to lose Deebo in stretches of games like he loses members of his RB committee. I flinched when Deebo got tripped after a short gain and multiple bodies fell on his leg in one of the inside runs.
Everyone is focused on Minn and Car as threats to the playoffs....... don't sleep on Philly- that run game has been humming for weeks- and thier schedule isn't bad w 2 gms ea vs Giants and WFT
No, they're not, but their D/front four isn't what it was last year - and now they're down Young. Philly can beat them the way they're playing. * Would like to see Lance here.

Mood, I feel as though they should win by at least 7 and as much as 10.
Delete10+ I gotta a feeling...
DeleteOk, Raz, I'll add $10 on the Niners to cover the spread :)
DeleteI'm nervous of this one as a trap game. Except a low scoring game.
Lmao!
DeleteThe Jags have completely changed their defense since the Niners-Jags game back in 2017. Only one player from that D is still with them -- Myles jack.
ReplyDeleteNice
ReplyDeleteJimmy G is starting to get into his own.
ReplyDeleteCome on Jimmy geez

The longest drive in the NFL since 2000!
DeleteHad to out do their drive from last week!
DeleteShould have been 7 too.
Yep
DeleteScooter,

Welp: Deebo is earning that big next contract. Wasn't sure at first, but it's gonna be hard not to pay him
ReplyDeleteYeah, he's going to get paaaaiid. And the 49ers can't afford to let him go.
DeleteWow!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThe Jags defense can't get a breather atm. Love it!
ReplyDeleteAnd now the Jags players are cracking. That's what sticking to the run does.
ReplyDeleteNice self discipline by Jennings to hold his temper.
ReplyDeleteGood point. And did it all with a smile, too!
DeleteYou guys see Shanny greet Jennings as he came off the field to congratulate the rookie!
DeleteWTG Niners.
ReplyDeleteOne Mississippi two Mississippi's and that ball was out baby!
ReplyDeleteWe've seen some successful large number of play drives. How about a nice 2 minute drive.
ReplyDeleteAnother choke hold on The Bosa Constrictor. That makes at least 4 that I've caught on live tv. What the hell is going on out there? Lmao!
ReplyDeleteOpen the third quarter with another loooong drive.
ReplyDeleteSo... why did it take so long for Shanahan to start getting Deebo involved as a RB?
ReplyDeleteGiven all the injuries on the team, maybe he was concerned about additional risk of Deebo getting injured. That's all I got.
DeletePerhaps he didn't want to admit to Sermon's lack of explosiveness.... and Wilson doesn't seem back to his old self either.

DeleteNo argument there, Scooter. Losing Mostertrati took a big piece off the chess board.

ReplyDeleteWFT aren't a cake walk.
DeleteThere really aren't any "cake walks" in today's NFL.
DeleteTenn is learning that today, at home.
DeleteGo Pack Go!
Defense and the running game will prove their worth in January if the Niners can get into the play offs.
DeleteYou bet!
DeleteNo, they're not, but their D/front four isn't what it was last year - and now they're down Young. Philly can beat them the way they're playing.
ReplyDelete* Would like to see Lance here.
Ok, now I would get Lance out there, assuming they get another possession.
ReplyDeleteShanny heard ya Scooter!
DeleteGreat team Win! Really impressive to see 0 giveaways and just 1 penalty.
ReplyDeleteHave to keep the same focus against the vikings next week.
