Jimmy Ward, Arik Armstead and Fred Warner held a defensive only meeting prior to the Rams game. Among the topics covered was the road forward. Looks as though it paved off. Can they keep it going in Jacksonville?

Hey GEEP, sorry I didn't get a chance to get back to you yesterday, but you nailed it.
ReplyDeleteIn regards to Elijah Mitchell's broken finger - my question was:
"what would be one of the first questions you would ask of your medical staff if you were the HC?"
Your answer: 1A) Which hand? & 1B) Can he still grip a football?
BINGO!
I only asked this question because a reporter asked Kyle which hand was it that the broken finger was on (of course a reporter would ask this question because it's only common sense, and that it would probably be the first question I would ask if I were the HC, with the possible exception of, perhaps, the severity of the break), and I COULD NOT BELIEVE that Kyle said he that HE DIDN'T KNOW which hand it was!
And when I read that Kyle didn't have any idea which hand it was, I spit out my coffee in aghast - literally!
Senjutsu. There's no tactical advantage revealing which hand it is for Jacksonville. I doubt he plays. You may get your wish on Sunday for Sermon. Let's hope he holds onto the football!
Delete"There's no tactical advantage revealing which hand it is for Jacksonville."
DeleteLol, I don't think the 49ers are going to be able to keep that a secret, Razor. Kyle obviously didn't think to ask Dustin Little (the Niners head trainer) the most pertinent question about the injury, which I find mindboggling!
Anyways, as for Trey Sermon ... I was never asking for Sermon to get carries ahead of Mitchell. My beef is the way Kyle has shelved Sermon, and alienated his 3rd round pick, despite the fact that he's the EXACT SAME GUY as he was at Ohio State. There's obviously talent there, and that's the thing - it's obvious that he's just not a very good fit for this current offense, and who's fault is that? Wasting a 3rd round pick on a guy who probably isn't a very good fit for your current offense ... that's one of those head-scratching offseason decisions that is currently hurting this football team.
And it could continue to hurt them this week, right?
The last thing the 49ers can afford to do after MNF is go away from the run VS the Jaguars. BUT ... what if Jeff Wilson gets banged up? Now Kyle needs to turn to Trey Sermon, who currently feels completely alienated by his HC? Considering the fact that Trey Sermon recently SCRUBBED HIS SOCIAL MEDIA of all things related to the 49ers, it's safe to say he's probably not a guy that you want to end up leaning on to carry the load on Sunday, which is why I have a feeling that Jeff Wilson JR is going to get the bulk of the carries this week.
Not only that, I don't know what JaMycal Hasty's status is for Sunday, but I wouldn't be surprised if he gets carries ahead of Sermon, and in fact I wouldn't be surprised to see Trenton Cannon getting carries as well.
Maybe Shanny didn't ask purposely. It's still a secret or do you have some inside information?
DeleteTrey Sermon is where he is because he's not better than the guys ahead of him. That is all.
I'm pretty sure the 49ers are required to disclose the nature of the injury, they just don't necessarily have to disclose the severity, unless there is 100% certainty.
DeleteBesides Razor, it's obvious that it's not his ball hand, if you think about it.
DeleteDo you know what I mean by that?
DeleteHis ball hand? That can be determined by which side of the field he's on.
DeleteI'm thinking that, if it's his ball hand, he'd be ruled out by now.
DeleteNo RB is playing with a big splint or cast on his ball hand, right? And no way he's playing with a heavy splint by Sunday.
No way he's NOT playing with a splint. So he's got to be ruled out by now if it's his ball hand.
DeleteThat's good new for the 49ers though! His ball hand must be good.
Kyle obviously wouldn't risk hoping he can hold the ball in his off-hand. He's so used to holding it primarily in one hand that he'd revert to using that hand naturally, without even thinking about it, so it's just not worth playing him because he'd almost certainly be a huge fumble risk.
DeleteThere's no strategic advantage to ruling him out this early.
DeleteAgain, if you know a player is out, you're required to report it after the first practice of the week, which is Wednesday this week. There are rules for reporting injiluires. Sure, if you aren't 100% certain, you can consider him doubtful, but Kyle said today that he expects Mitchell to play on Sunday, therefore we can assume it's his off-ball hand.
DeleteBut yah, they don't have to officially rule them out until the day before, if there is any uncertainty.
DeleteAlso, maybe somebody can correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think a HC is allowed to be purposely misleading when it comes to the nature of an injury, just to get a strategic advantage.
DeleteSeems to me that if Kyle knew which hand the finger was on, and he lied about that in public, he could get himself in trouble for that, because it's relevant to his status.
I would guess that Kyle truly didn't know which hand it was on.
Either way, whether he knew and pretended he didn't know, or he truly didn't know, it's not a good look for Kyle!
DeleteIt was never going to give him a strategic advantage to hide which hand, because the Jaguars are going to know which hand it is based on the fact that there's no way a RB is playing with a freshly broken finger that required surgery this week, on his primary ball carrying hand. If he did, his coach is an idiot, IMO.
I am also pretty sure that the 49ers are required to report which hand the injury is on, at some point this week as well.
And I guess that's my point.
Kyle doing Kyle things that don't make him look very good.
LOL. Funniest exchange I've seen all season. Razor, don't you know Reasons WILL NOT BE DENIED in finding something ridiculously additional to slam Shannie for.
DeleteAnd when I heard this picture of Kyle's family gathered around a Christmas tree, with Sean McVay's head superimposed on the body of Kyle's young son, I simply had to have it.
ReplyDeleteSo I downloaded it last night, opened up my contacts list on my phone, and gleefully texted it to all of the appropriate people in my circle of sports fanatics! LOL
So your multiple personalities?
DeleteIf it were a picture of my family, you'd see the letters "eMJay" in place of McVay's head!
DeleteBTW eMJay, it's called Dissociative Identity Disorder, or DID, and I think I've been consistent, by and large, for the last several years. I was a huge Kyle Shanahan fan, and supporter.
DeleteBut I've evolved. We all evolve with ourselves and our opinions.
That said, I live for the day, so I'm always open to a new perspective, and I hope Kyle proves me wrong!
Either way, whether he knew and pretended he didn't know, or he truly didn't know, it's not a good look for Kyle!
DeleteIt was never going to give him a strategic advantage to hide which hand, because the Jaguars are going to know which hand it was based on the fact that there's no way a RB is playing with a freshly broken finger on his ball hand, that requires surgery in the week leading up to the game.
And I guess that's my point. Kyle doing Kyle things that don't make him look too good.
Dude, look at the post above, you're literally talking to yourself...reply after reply after reply.
DeleteJust make one post and shut up, all you do is spam Mr "Ball Hand"
Here's another question for everyone:
ReplyDeleteDid the 49ERS find their 2021 identity against the LA Rams, or was this dominant victory more about one head coach having ownage on another head coach?
49Reasons
Delete"Did the 49ERS find their 2021 identity against the LA Rams?"
* We'll find out this Sunday, when they take on the Jaguars.
GOOD NEWS--BAD NEWS:
DeleteThe bad News: The game will be on the Jags’ turf, and when looking at the history against the Niners, that’s a BAD THING. With a 2-3 record against the 9ers, both of the Jags’ wins have come at home, though it’s been since 2005 since the Jags' defeated them.
The good news: the Jags have lost to the 9ers in their last three meetings (2009, 2014, and 2017), including an international game. Their last meeting took place at Levi’s Stadium against a Jags group that eventually went to the AFC Championship but were unable to defeat JG and 9ers, who won by a score of 44-33.
I think rather than identity, the game was more about trying to set the right mind set/ attitude. That's what has been missing.
DeleteAs to whether they found it - well, one game proves nothing. Let's see if they can maintain that mind set for a few games.
GEEP, no doubt that these 10:00 am road games are always a challenge, even against a team like the Jaguars.
DeleteScooter, I couldn't agree more!
I was just making that point to my nephew, who is a NEWBEE Forty Niners Faithful. Watching the 49ers dismantle the Rams on MNF was incredibly satisfying, but it really only means something if it's the starting point of a string of consistent play from this team.
Any NFL team can play a great game and dominate their opponent. Parity reigns in the NFL ever since the salary cap was created. The really good team are the teams that can dominate their opponents on a consistent basis. Those are the teams who usually win championships. The 49ers were that team in 2019, but in every other season under Kyle Shanahan, they have been inconsistent.
I hope that the 49ers discovered something on Monday night, but I am not yet convinced that they have suddenly fixed their issues with a lack of consistency. Up until Monday, the only thing the 49ers have done consistently this season, is play inconsistently.
The 49ers can build on MNF's performance, but Kyle needs to quit letting his opponents dictate his offensive play calling, and DeMeco needs to be a little less predictable with his defense.
Right now, with Jimmy behind center, the 49ers are built to win by running the football, and by extension - controlling the play clock and limiting the number of turnovers.
We'll see if Kyle gets that now, and calls games accordingly.
I might start calling the 49ers offense The Breakfast Club cuz of all the pancake blocks!
ReplyDeleteBreaking down the NFC playoff picture: The 49ers are in 9th place. The Niners play the Vikings, who are ahead of them, as well as the Falcons, who are tied with San Francisco.
ReplyDelete* The Packers, Cardinals, Cowboys, and Buccaneers are all divisional leaders. And while it might be premature, we can project each of those teams to make the playoffs.
* Where it gets interesting is from the 5-seed and on. The Rams are 7-3 but trending in the wrong direction. “McVay turns into a pumpkin around Thanksgiving every year. People forget that.”
The last two spots: * Say LA figures it out and cements themselves as the 5th seed. That leaves seven teams to claim the final two spots in the playoff race.
* Unlike the Saints and Panthers, the six and seven seeds, the 49ers have a quarterback. Expecting Cam Newton to lead a putrid Panthers offense is a tall task at this stage in his career.
* The Saints are 5-4, with Trevor Siemian under center and Tayson Hill running routes and receiving third-down targets. That sums up the NO situation. Their remaining schedule includes the Eagles, Bills, Cowboys, Bucs, Panthers, and Falcons. New Orleans will have to outscore their opponents, and that won’t be easy — especially if Alvin Kamara is in and out of their lineup. The Saints should lose seven games, and that’s before we get to the toss-up contests. I think they fall out of the race when it’s all said and done.
The two teams that I think make it: * The Vikings and 9ers are two teams that will make it into the playoffs.
* The Vikings are 4-5. The following two teams on their schedule are the Packers and 49ers. After that, they face Detroit, Pittsburgh, Chicago, LA, Packers again, and Chicago once more.
He’s still Kirk Cousins, and he proves that every week. The variance of outcomes when Cousins drops back to throw is unlike any other QB in the NFL. I see the Vikings splitting their final eight games and finishing 9-8. Nine wins, based on how everyone else is playing, should be enough to make the playoffs.
* The 9ers talent and style of play tend to wear on their opponents and are the only team that has gotten the best of themselves this season.
* At 4-5, the Niners control their own destiny. Games they have to win if they want to make the playoffs: Jaguars, Falcons, Texans. That would mean the home team wins their games at Levi’s Stadium.
That puts the 9ers at seven wins. Seattle isn’t a good team right now, but you expect Russell Wilson’s finger to get healthier, and they’re always a tough out. The Bengals are a coin flip game on the road where the 9ers could very well be favored. The Titans are likely a 9er loss. That leaves the Rams and the Vikings. Nine feels more realistic than ten but either way, the 49ers' last-place schedule gives them a great opportunity to find their way into the playoffs.
that leaves the Rams and the Vikings. Should the 9ers win both, they're in the playoffs and in the post season, ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN!
Will you still be eating crow if the 49ers make it? 😉
DeleteScooter: "Will you still be eating crow if the 49ers make it?"
Delete* Assuming you were directing that at me? If everything I predicted comes true, I'm first going to Vegas and place a few bets! Should they come thru, I'll order some Raven Pate, and think of you.:)
If the 49ers don't make it, will you be dining on some crow also? lol
Hahaha! Nice.
DeleteNo, I wasn't the one saying I'd eat crow :-)
OK Scooter, good enough! I'll have some for YOU...
DeleteWHO SAID THE 9ERS COULDN'T BUY AN INTERCEPTION? CB K'Waun William shows them how, using the one hand-two cheek method! Unfortunately it did't count...
ReplyDeleteSan Francisco 49ers Player Makes Incredible 'Buttception'
https://sports.yahoo.com/san-francisco-49ers-player-makes-172703951.html
Kelly Stafford acknowledged that she was in the wrong when she threw a pretzel at a 49ers fan and was escorted from her seat by security.
ReplyDelete“I’m an idiot,” Kelly Stafford wrote, via TMZ.com. “He was saying a bunch of things that were aggressive towards our crew but zero excuse. I tried to apologize, but in the end knew I was wrong. Will always stand up for my guy and everyone I love, but obviously needed to do it completely different! I’m embarrassed too! Sorry you had to witness me in my weak moment!”
I guess others were impressed with the defense, and it was better then last week, really hard hitting, much better tackling, much better coverage. That's all well in good but the QB pressure was on low heat for most of the game. With the amount of resources that have been applied to the d-line it sure seems to me that Stafford should of been forced out of the pocket many more times.
ReplyDeleteThe Baldinger has something to say about the blocking...
ReplyDeletehttps://www.49erswebzone.com/articles/152603-brian-baldinger-breaks-down-49ers-dismantling-rams/
This sure sounds like Leadership but I've been told the 49ers are missing that and don't have faith in the team's direction because they kept Garoppolo around. Hmm what to believe what to believe.
ReplyDeleteIt does indeed. Only took them half a season to figure out they needed to have a team talk.
