Released by the Patriots. Should we pursue, salary cap be damned?
Patriots traded Stephon Gilmore to the Panthers for a 2023 sixth-round pick.
Jeremy Fowler @JFowlerESPN · 2m Source: the #49ers and corner Deommodore Lenoir have reached a five-year, $92-million extension.
Maybe the 9ers should have a conversation with JG about his $27 Mil. salary?
ReplyDeleteQUESTION: HEY JIMMY DID YOU EARNED YOUR SALARY IN 2020?
HOW ABOUT SO FAR IN 2021?
JUST MY OPINION, BUT.....That money could be well spent on a CB that's now a FA!
Hey, Jimmy; can you do us a solid and take a pay cut? Tom would.
DeleteNo.
ReplyDeleteToo late as well, but a 6th round pick in 2023 shows Pats know he's done.
Yea, it's crazy how far off a cliff a db can fall once he hits 30.
DeleteGuys, JOSH NORMAN and DRE KIRKPATRICK are a combined 64 years old, for crying out loud!😲
DeleteMatt Maiocco

"Does it make sense for #49ers to pursue CB Stephon Gilmore when Nick Bosa and Deebo Samuel are eligible for extensions after the season? Also, the QB situation is a factor."
Bingo! Gilmore has not been the player he was in 2019. And Maiocco is correct about having the money to invest in our current stars.
Very true.
Delete""Does it make sense for #49ers to pursue CB Stephon Gilmore when Nick Bosa and Deebo Samuel are eligible for extensions after the season?
Delete* There will be $27 Mil available for Nick Bosa and Deebo Samuel when JG is gone...SO WHERE'S THE SO CALLED CORRELATION?
You figure Bosa constrictor is gonna account for $25 million annually and Samuel another $19 million at least.
Delete"Bingo! Gilmore has not been the player he was in 2019."
Delete* Bingo! And the 9ers have not been the team they were in 2019....The season ticket holders were sold a SB team, but what we've got, is a last place team! Should we get a refund? FAT CHANCE!
Rasor
Delete* NFL 2021 salary cap = $182.5 Mil
* The NFL and the NFL Players Association agreed to set a salary cap ceiling for the 2022 season = $208.2 million per team. An increase of approx $25.7 Mil
Per spotrac, JG 2022 salary = $25,6 Mil. for a total of $51.3 Mil.
That should be more than enough to cover both Bosa and Samuel, even if the 2022 salary cap is a $ 1 or 2 Mil. less than the $208.2 Mil.
MAYBE EVEN ENOUGH TO SIGN A TOP CB THAT'S NOT INJURY PRONE?
** SORRY ABOUT THAT...Razor, not rasor.....
DeleteGEEP, the 49ers have one of the highest dollar amounts already committed for 2022 ($198.9M), and one of the lowest number of players signed through 2022 (32). Yes, moving JG will free up around $25M and is all but guaranteed to happen, but even then the team will likely need to get a bit creative to free up space for new players and extend key guys.

* You sir are CORRECT! But to my point, maybe that's part of the problem? Too much resources spent on some players who's performance does't match their salaries?
Players that make $million but year after year only play a few games before spending most of the season on IR and we both know who they are. Should they only get paid for the games they play? Then there are players that demand and get paid million dollar salaries, but under perform after they get the money. So is the answer to pay a basic salary with $$ million dollar incentives / bonuses to those who excel?
SO WHO'S TO BLAME? Scooter, with all due respect, you are an intelligent individual, you tell me! IMO that's a question the season ticket holders have a right to ask the FO, KS, JL and Jeb York.
Since you showed an interest, I'd be interested in hearing your opinion(s). Or for that matter, anyone else on the blog who'd like to add their opinion(s).
The Gilmore news has been settled by the Panthers.
ReplyDeleteAnyone surprised the start Baalke/Meyer have had thus far? I'm certainly not. You could see that train coming down the tracks from miles away!
ReplyDeleteI just think it is hilarious. As you say, could see this coming for miles.
DeleteRazor
ReplyDeleteWell there is the fact they have a perfect record...0W - 4L.
So that light at the end of the tunnel, turns out to be just
that....A TRAIN.
Not only can you see that train coming from miles away, but there's no tracks.
ReplyDeleteLOL
DeleteAnyone else think they'll resign Verrett again next year?
ReplyDeleteOnly if he comes at the vet minimum. Tbh, I wouldn't be surprised if he retires.
DeleteAgree. It's another long road to recovery and it must take a mental toll. Feel sorry for the guy.
DeleteDon't think he'll retire, Scooter.
DeleteMissed Sunday's game since I was out of town. Got to watch it today on DVR. Haven't seen on ST player lose a game in this way since Kyle Williams 9 years ago.
ReplyDeleteCoach Hightower needs to establish a consistent winning special teams unit. One week his guys help win a game and the next they help lose the game.
DeleteCannon was one of the key reasons that momentum swung to the Seahawks so quickly.
DeleteBut for mine the key reason for the loss was the offense not taking advantage of the outstanding performance by the defense in the first half and building a good lead. After 5 straight very quick defensive stops it was not good enough to only be 7 points up. It made it easy for a momentum swing to lead to a big deficit quickly.
