Chris Ballard Line One

Down went Carson Wentz and now Sam Ehlinger injured his knee leaving the Colts with one quarterback, Jacob Eason. George Bremer of The Herald Bulletin reports that Colts coach Frank Reich had no update after the game, but did offer, “It didn’t look good.”

Should John Lynch pick up the phone?

  1. I thought Gardner Minshew would be a good option for the Colts....but looks like Minshew was traded to Eagles for conditional 6th round pick.

Nick Mullens released from Eagles btw.

    1. Thanks for the info. I thought Minshew would be a good option for us as well. For a backup qb of his caliber (he wins games), I think that's a great price.

Maybe Mullens is on his way back to us.

  2. Hypothetical of course, but what would you guys propose in a Garoppolo to Colts trade?

    1. I think you'd want to hold out for their 1st round pick.

If you're going to rob the Colts when they're desperate, go big! Their 2022 first Rd draft pick and their 2023 3Rd round pick.
      ****OR*****
9ers get Defo Buckner back and the colts get Garoppolo plus a backup DT and the Colts take JG's 2021 salary

    3. GEEP,
I agree with going big on a possible (if the Colts come calling) Colts / Garoppolo trade.
But the Colts will no doubt have some pause in giving away so much because of Jimmy' injury history.

The idea of having two injury prone QBs (Wentz and Garoppolo) don't make for stability at the QB position.
I don't see the Colts offering more than a 2nd rd pick, and even that will be a tough swallow for the Indianapolis.

  3. Heck, no! Trader John needs to focus on maintaining this Super Bowl-caliber roster thru injuries.

    1. If they offer their 1st I gotta take it. I don't like Sudfeld backing up Lance but I don't see how they could pass on that offer.

  4. If they can get a first rounder in return for Garoppolo, you take it. That's what they have been hoping would materialize. I don't see it happening, but maybe I am wrong.

  5. Lance could conceivably become the starter after the bye week. I doubt that Garoppolo will get any significant playing time if this scenario becomes a reality. A 1st pick might be a hardball get from the Colts.

The Colts might already be in panic mode, perhaps they come calling early next week.
Of course, Jimmy won’t come on the cheap for the Colts.

  6. Jimmie has been steadily regressing in my eyes. He threw as many INT's as he has TD's in camp this year. I am sorry, but that's way below what you would expect from a "franchise" veteran. Rarely do I see him set his feet properly and use his entire body when he throws. It's mostly just upper body, shoulder and arm. His shaky mechanics drive me nuts!

  7. If Watson goes to the Dolphins, I suspect they might inquire after Tua. I don't think they will have the cap space to even try for JG.

But if Watson goes to the Dolphins... Would the Texans consider JG?

    1. Good point Scooter. But is Tua that much in demand? His rookie year was inconsistent at best. Watson still has a big legal cloud over him, so even if such a trade can be made, Watson my still face an NFL suspension.
Garoppolo is a clean option for the Colts at this point. This could be big news next week if the Colts show interest in Garoppolo.

  8. If I see a different Jimmy, then I'll happily get behind him, but the way he's been playing lately, it's hard to believe in him.

We'll see which guy we get.

  9. And if I trusted Jimmy more, I'd have a lot easier time sticking with this "plan".

I see Trey as a super talented QB who just needs to get enough snaps to get past stage one of his development.

    1. He'll revert back to IR if he goes unclaimed, obviously.

    2. I don't expect him to be claimed, do you?

I'd expect it to depend on how long he's on IR. I understand he's expected to be out 6 weeks? If so, he may get claimed...

    4. I bet he won't, but he could.
