Lee Waived Bye Bye

Fowler? Fowler?

The #49ers have signed WR Bennie Fowler to a one-year deal and waived WR Marqise Lee.

  1. Strange move. Wonder what, if anything, happened with Lee to make them move on so quickly?

    1. It seems to me the most logical reason is physical. Could be a character concern came to light but I doubt it.

    2. That would be the most logical explanation.

    3. According to Biderman, released with an injury waiver. So there we go. Took him less than a week to get hurt.

    4. That's amazing. You can't change a zebra's stripes.

  2. WOW.....I thought he would be a camp body, but released before the regular season! How long did he last, less than
a week? With all his leg injuries, maybe he hurt a leg and they cut him?

  3. Agree. It’s as if something took place between last week’s signing to Lee’ sudden departure.

Did Fowler come in for a workout and impress the FO so much that it made Lee quickly expendable?
As you say, this is a strange move. I wonder if Lynch will be asked about it.

  4. These players appear to be just camp bodies. With zero access to information on how all the receivers on the roster are progressing, we probably won't be in much of a position to draw conclusions about the receiver hierarchy beyond #2 until pre-season.

  6. Grant mentioned a few edge rushers SF could bring in to help that wouldn't cost much and could provide some juice off the edge on passing downs.
Olivier Vernon, is 30 years old but had 9 sacks last year along with a very high pass rush win rate.
Justin Houston, is 33 but had 8 sacks and the 6th best pass rush win rate in the league at the position.
They could both be brought in for 1 year at a fairly low price.

  7. I meant to add this... What available/tradable players do you think could be brought in on the cheap, that could play a significant role for SF this season?

    1. I think you nailed it, Shoup. Both Houston and Vernon would provide excellent pass rushing depth coming off the bench. I actually am a little surprised they haven't signed one of them. Maybe they know something positive about Ford that we aren't privy to.

    2. I think that is still possible. Most franchises are in no hurry. They may be wanting to learn more in these OTAs about what they have.
