The 49ers took their lumps in this game with the injuries coming fast and furious. Mike Evans left early with a rib, Trent Williams with a stinger. Lenoir, Green and Greenlaw left with injuries but were able to return. Gracen Halton did return from apparent cramping. With the game on the line the offense came out and moved the ball at will. A critical 15-yard personal foul penalty committed by Arizona down in the Redzone allowed San Francisco to finish the game winning drive with a TD. Lots to clean up and hopefully the injuries aren't serious. On to Denver!
The next two weeks we find out who the 49ers really are. The only way they are going to continue winning is if the O can score 35 or better in every game. The big question the next 2 weeks will be can the O line open holes and protect BP versus 2 of the better Ds in the league. Lastly most of the injuries this week seemed to not be too serious but a long term injury to Evans will really make beating the better Ds difficult

DeleteYou've kind of outlined why we won't find out who this team really is. Just whether Purdy is good enough to overcome a mass of injuries.

ReplyDeleteWashington laid the blueprint for beating the Seahawks. Double JSN deep, take away the big play and keep Kupp in front of you. Seattle doesn’t have a strong enough run game to pull the safeties in. They're heavily dependent on the defense dominating teams, and when they can’t, there’s not enough elsewhere to pull in front.

Weird week in the NFL this week. Quite a few upsets. Definitely a good week results wise for the 49ers. Now just have to hope the injuries aren't too major, heading into what could be a pretty tough couple of games.

ReplyDeleteQB Brock Purdy has a 93.7 QBR. That's the highest by any QB in his team's first 3 games since the metric was introduced in 2006.
Josh Allen in 2024 had the previous mark at 93.5. Three of the other top four went on to win MVP (Allen, Tom Brady in '07 and Peyton Manning in '13).
Of QBs to play three games this year, Lamar Jackson is next in QBR at 83.8.
When you have an elite QB, you always have a chance to win. Can you imagine what this team would look like if they did not suffer so many injuries. I don't have too much confidence in the defense which to me signals that the Niners need to be up at least 14 pts going into the fourth quarter.
ReplyDeleteOur defense has only given up 50 points in 3 games. That’s pretty darn good. Yes we’ve lost a lot of guys so it’s probably not going to be quite as good until we get some guys back. Fortunately Denver doesn’t have much of an offense. Every game is different and anything can happen but I like our chances against Denver.
DeleteI think the stats in this particular case is misleading. The defense has a hard time getting off the field, can't stop the run. The injuries certainly contribute to it but still this team is touted as a SB contender, and they are going to have to play better defensively in the post season or they don't have a chance. I like our chances against all the teams as long as Purdy is at the helm.
DeleteAZ ran the ball 27 times which is a lot for a team behind in the score. It kept our defense on the field and I’m sure their plan was to wear out our D. However, they only gained 3.4 yards per carry. I think we have a very good team even with the injuries.

DeleteHe needs a better QB. Not another large strong armed one but one who has strength between the ears. Herbert is currently #29 in QBR.
DeleteYou made a commitment a couple of weeks ago that Jim Harbaugh would be out after this season. I'm beginning to feel the same way. But, lucky for him the Raiders will not be able to sustain there winning. And KC is not the strong contender of the past. Denver looks like the team to beat in their division. But, Harbaugh is at a point where he almost needs to run the table.
